Ok, cure me please: SPIDERS!
First topic message reminder :
Don't know of it's the curse of this place and that bloody thread About spiders, but over the last few days I've had massive spiders in my house.
They freak me out!!!!
Why are they coming in?
Why are they so freaking big?
What am I so scared of?
HOW CAN I STOP BEING SO FREAKED OUT????
There's no point telling me I'm bigger than them blah blah, there's no point (sassy) telling me they catch flies blah blah or even that they spin little cute webs and make orphans blankets.
I don't care.
I hate them and they freak me out.
Any one got any good cures for me? Please??

PEOPLE who continue to wantonly kill innocent little spidies (a.k.a. God's living and walking fly and mosquito eaters..) undoubtedly have deep seated psychological issues...
The next time I am confronted by a six-eyed sand spider I'll tell him you said that...just before I shout "I am the great ruler of the universe" and swat him!

No, nowt very exciting here Wolfie, but I've had quite a few close encounters of a "I-need-clean-underpants" kind in various parts of Africa and Mexico! One or two evil looking little sods in the Middle East too, but spiders tend to be the least of one's worries there.

Do you dislike them too? I think it's all the legs. I don't think something should have that many legs.

Can't say I particularly like them, but I do feel a bit sorry for them when they disappear up the Hoover tube when I'm doing my housework.

Invasion of giant house spiders as mating season begins
It’s that time of year again, when spiders begin to crawl out from their summer siestas and start to invade our homes.
Last year, Britain's wet summer sparked a rise in the number of spiders creeping into our homes seeking shelter – so what can we expect this year?
It’s more bad news for arachnophobes, with ‘sex-crazed’ spiders apparently making their way indoors as mating season begins, the Manchester Evening News (MEN) reports.
Some of the spiders could be as ‘big as mice’, according to MEN, with one expert explaining that the arachnids have actually been hiding in our homes all summer.
“The male spiders come out the woodwork during this time of year as it is breeding season and they are searching for female spiders,” explained Steve McGrail, from Pro-Kill Environmental.
“They are actually there in the home at other times of year but they are hidden away - under the floor, in the attic, in the basement. If you find them, it’s pretty much impossible to rid your house of them.
“They may disappear for a period of time, but other spiders will come in their place. The best thing to do if you find them is put them in a shed - it’s a case of out of sight, out of mind. If you put them outside, they are likely to die.”
There have also been rather alarming reports of cannibal Daddy-longlegs invading our homes. However, the charity Buglife insists that having different species of spiders are “essential for keeping down pests in the home”.

Re: Ok, cure me please: SPIDERS!
The creepy-crawly world of spiders recently got a new member: Aphonopelma johnnycashi, a tarantula species named for the late country singer Johnny Cash. The spider is abundant near Folsom State Prison in California, where Cash recorded a famous live album in 1968. The tarantula's dark coloration also reminded researchers of Cash's preference for black attire.

Apart from the monster spiders that are now coming indoors (we have had 2 so far, but we always get loads...OH blames the ivy clad walls) there are 2 BILLION daddy longlegs set to invade...(I hate them almost as much as spiders)

The lower one looks like an Arizona wolf spider. Used to lift them out of the pool...with thousands of babies on her back.
They're great, cause they eat crickets and bark scorpions that get into the house.

WE have some species of both wolf spiders and mouse spiders down here...
Also, there is one species of Tarantula that lives in Oz..
Lives up in northern Qld, where it used to be known as the (giant) "bird eating spider"; although apparently it doesn't really eat birds..

Spiders don't bother me.
If I see any approaching me, I always think: "come at me, let's see who's the boss here".
I dispose of them humanely though. No need to kill them.

Mrs Joyce’s nephews dubbed the spider “Hortense, Protector of the Post”.
And some of the other local children even built her a little nursery for her young ones ahead of the big day.
“We checked on her every day since she moved in six weeks ago and yesterday the eggs hatched,’’ she said.
“There were hundreds, at least two hundred…we were incredibly excited.”
Video shows the seething mass of miniature spiders crawling near their proud mother inside their new home.
The proud mother spider sat close to her babies to protect them after they hatched. The sight would be enough to make most people’s skin crawl.

IMAGINE what these stories will do for the reputation of Aussies abroad !!!
Already reknown for having the most dangerous critters on the planet -- the world's most venomous spiders and snakes, people swimming with sharks, Bindi Irwin living in the middle of a crocodile park..
And now we have these kids encouraging giant man-eating spiders to thrive in their letter box -- many foreigners will imagine Oz full of mad 'Crocodile Dundee' types...

My cat has a" flap" to the outside in the door, if he wants to go out he will sit by it if I am in the room and give me "that look" till I open the door.
If I am not in the room he will quite happily go through it and back again !
