More evidence of remoaners still trying to overturn Brexit... and this is a conservative MP who should be drummed out of the party and out of parliament!
Senior Tory MP calls for UK to rejoin EU single market
Tobias Ellwood, the defence select committee chair, said Brexit had left British business “strangled” by red tape, insisting that it was time to “think outside the box”.
The leading Tory MP urged the government to look again at forging a Norway-style relationship with the EU, allowing access to the single market through the European Economic Area (EEA).
Writing in The House magazine, Mr Ellwood claimed that the move would see post-Brexit paperwork costing firms £7bn removed and help ease inflationary pressures on hard-pressed families.
“Sector after sector is being strangled by the red tape we were supposed to escape from,” said the Tory MP, arguing that Brexit had not turned out to be what “most people imagined”.
Speaking about his proposal on Times Radio on Thursday, Mr Ellwood said: “I’m daring to think outside the box… that’s what we need to do at the moment, given the economic situation we face.”
He added: “It would strengthen our economy because it would remove so much red tape, it would ease the cost of living crisis and it would actually settle the difficult Irish question on the Northern Ireland Protocol.”
But David Frost – No 10’s former Brexit negotiator – denounced Mr Ellwood’s surprise call. The hardliner said Mr Ellwood’s intervention “shows Brexit really is not safe in his hands or his allies’”.
Senior Tory backbencher Mark Harper also rejected the idea, tweeting: “No. The UK voted to leave the EU. That meant leaving the single market and putting an end to freedom of movement. The end.”
Labour has been keen to avoid talking about Brexit, given that the subject has caused significant electoral problems for the party in large parts of the country.
But backbench MP Stella Creasy – chair of the Labour Movement for Europe – praised Mr Ellwood for “speaking out”, adding: “For the sake of jobs, peace and equality, the UK must discuss our future with Europe.”
Treasury minister Simon Clarke said he was “pleased to reassure” Mr Ellwood that Britain would not be rejoining the single market, claiming the move would “extinguish half the freedoms that make Brexit so important”.
Mr Ellwood acknowledged that being in the single market would mean signing up to freedom of movement, something many Tory MPs were determined to avoid in the years running up to the final Brexit deal.

These traitors will do anything to bring down the country and/or govt as long as it helps their pro EU agenda!

Trust me... The remoaners are large in number in positions of power and are running a comprehensive plot to manoeuvre themselves into a position to be trying to scupper Brexit and get us in to rejoining the EU...!!!!

Foggetaboutit. Brexit came and went with a whimper, not a bang. Apparently, no one is interested.

In the US perhaps; in the U K it is still both divisive and controversial. In Northern Ireland, the U.K./EU Mexican standoff could easily destroy the Good Friday Agreement and, now that Sinn Fein are now the majority party, lead to a Brussels-backed take-over of the Ulster counties.
Believe me, if that happens there could be a bloodbath.
No-one is interested?

Old Fred’s Almanac 2022 et seq.
1. Late July. Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer lodges a vote of confidence in lame duck Conservative Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
2. A sufficient number of disaffected Tory MPs who have so openly expressed their own lack of confidence in Boris either vote with the Labour Opposition or abstain.
3. A Labour victory forces a General Election in early Autumn.
4. A Labour/Liberal Democrat/Scottish National pact to vote tactically leads to a Conservative defeat and a Lab/Lib coalition administration committed to sanctioning a second Scottish independence referendum forms the new government.
5. The referendum is won in 2023 by the SNP and Green Party acting
jointly and Scotland becomes the Republic of Scotland and immediately lodges an application to join the European Union.
6. Left wing Welsh political parties launch a similar campaign for independence which causes serious civil unrest throughout the following three years and, finally, independence and an application for EU membership.
7. Meanwhile, Keir Starmer is ousted within a year as Labour party leader by the Marxist Momentum faction who use their usual tactic of offering their supporters both membership and immediate voting rights at only £3 a year…the “entryist” method that gained victory for ultra Left MP Jeremy Corbyn in 2015. A Labour MP from an overwhelmingly urban and industrial constituency in the North gives up his seat in return to immediate elevation to the House of Lords and is succeeded by an ultra-Left trade union leader and Momentum faction member.
At this point, dear readers, I can only hope that I have dropped off the bloody perch and rest in peace alongside my dear wife on the family’s little bit of Old England in the glorious countryside. Unless, that is, a five-year plan government-controlled tractor factory has been built on it following compulsory acquisition without compensation.

It's all quiet, now Fred. What is done, is done. It may be interesting for future developments - and I will watch those developments as they happen - but it's in the past now.
Keep a line open...I'm interested in your view.

All very possible Moley... Very insightful stuff from you there...
Although I do so hope that this doomsday scenario doesn't come to be, and that you are alive and well to witness a better future outcome!
You are a living legend Moley, and as always, I bow down to your great knowledge and wisdom!
