Hounding other posters...
First topic message reminder :
I’ve become really disinterested in this site, to the point of actually saying to the Forum owner today, that I cannot moderate a site where it’s acceptable to ban words but not hounding.
You know what “hounding” is? It’s a sneaky way of bullying.
Don’t hound people. Don’t arrive on a thread and pick on a poster because you don’t like them, or they annoy you, or they didn’t answer you on another thread.
What is wrong with you people? Just fucking debate your point and if someone doesn’t agree with you then shrug your shoulders and go about your day.
Do you have to BE RIGHT before you can sleep peacefully?
Look at your ego and your own anger whilst you sit at your computer screen. Really???
You’re angry because someone didn’t agree??
Wow.
Nothing else to add. But it’s getting fucking tiring. And it takes a lot to make me tired because I’m very very very, patient.
Just think about this post.

So should you be sent to basement, tom. But the mods are not even handed.Tommy Monk wrote:Interesting that you support his nastiness by saying you stand by him as a mate...!?
Yes. That's what loyalty is all about. You are doing the same thing, but you have the tyranny of the establishment working for you.
If I had done a fraction of what Wolfie has done then I would have been banned long ago...
I am no favourite of any of the mods...
It's just that they can't really punish me for responding to abuse, when they have allowed posters to throw abuse at me without punishment...!
I'm more than confident in my points and capable in putting these points across, to never having to lower myself to throwing abuse/insults/lies around... However, I will occasionally respond to insults/abuse directed at me, with a similar level in reply, if the mods seem to be allowing the insults/abuse towards me to go without any intervention...!

Perhaps you think you do. The one thing humans never see is themselves.
I have watched, from a distance, the chauvinism with which Brits treat Commonwealthers. There is a deep, submerged undercurrent that directs the attitude of Brits toward what they perceive as their lessors. We Americans don't get that because we beat you in two wars, and now we are your protectors. But it is always present with the "colonists".
It's commonly recognized with Canadians, NZ'ers and Oz'ers, and we discuss it all the time. They say, Oh...you just caught that?, like it's common lore with them. Brits look down on their colonists.
So, it seems that the only sin that Wolf committed was to not bow low enough for your liking. My god! He had the audacity to talk back! Pee-on Aussie!

It's not everyone with the Brits. But there is a prevalence of that attitude among them...particularly with the right, because they like the way it was.

Well, it's everywhere now that Trump has taken over the right. Adversarial-ism defines them today.
But the arrogance began with the Neo-Cons, who seemed to say: now that the USSR is disposed of, we can proceed with taking over the world. They promptly started the war in Iraq, based on lies. Ironically, they called it American Excellence.

Have to say, in America it was the right that began to label the left as not fellow Americans who had different opinions, but as an "enemy within" that had to be defeated at any cost. Happened right around the time that George H.W. Bush lost his re-election bid to Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich became Speaker of the House.
Suddenly you had people like Ann Coulter, a conservative attorney who went after Clinton, rise to prominence as a conservative pundit and author of books whose titles characterised Democratic Party voters as "Godless," "Traitors," etc.
You simply didn't see the same rhetoric from the left against the likes of Reagan or the first Bush.

It's not labeling, it's just the truth. If you want to stop something, it's probably a good idea to figure out where it started, in my humble opinion.
Re: Hounding other posters...
Right you are Ben. It goes as far back as Senator Barry Goldwater, presidential candidate in 1964, who touted a book by John Stormer, titled None Dare Call it Treason (1964). https://www.scribd.com/doc/52165577/None-Dare-Call-It-Treason-John-Stormer-1964
That created the cleavage of which you speak. Also, those were the years of desegregation of the military, Brown v. Board of Educ., McCarthyism, Lee Atwater and the Southern Strategy, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, all of which inflamed the paranoia of the right.
When Dr. Obama was elected president of the US, it blew the tops of their heads clean off. That's when all the wild conspiracy theories went through the roof.

The rhetoric wasn't as intense back then because we didn't have the internet and social media.
Reagan caught plenty of shit though.
People on the left were not very nice to the man, in spite of his high levels of popularity.
This lefties aren't as nasty as righties mantra of yours is simply a manifestation of your bias.
And it's that bias that will continue to feed the problem.

I'm really that important to you? I'm flattered.
These are what I call derivative arguments. They arise because your points have been losers. For example, your states rights arguments when the coronavirus has no sense of state boundaries. You are raising a political argument when what is called for is scientific analysis.
You are angry at me for defeating your points, when you should be angry at yourself for failing to think the thing through...for choosing the wrong points. I can give you but slight solace...you have to fail, in order to learn.

I'll take on that issue, Ben. Lefties are focused on the problem--hunger, homelessness, inequities--whereas righties are focused on their own selfish interests. The mission of the right begins in anger, and defensiveness is their frame of mind.
Righties are inevitably at war with humans, and so with humanism. Thus, individualism is their keynote. Preying on others is where they find their sustenance. Lefties have empathy, and embrace/care for the whole of society.
So, right from the start, lefties are not as nasty as righties.

I meant in terms of tribalistic rhetoric, which some lefties do just as nastily as some righties.

Do you blame them? Lefties are known as "snowflakes" from their attention to problems, rather than political warfare. If we were to act like righties, we would have much harsher names, but we would be abandoning our mission: problem solving for society.
Indeed, I am an advocate of take no prisoners leftism. I was once a Republican and conservative, and perhaps the habit stuck. A true lefty would be patient, resilient and not be distracted. But I view myself in the adversarial role, with truth as my foil, determined to watch the left flank.
Truth is all around us, and all you have to do is call out the righties on the basis of truth. They fold like a sheet of paper.

In your words, I lived it.
Here's what I lived, taking out everything I read, saw on TV, etc.
It used to be that I had right-wing friends in America that I could debate with without it getting personal or nasty. We could take the piss out of each other -- a friend I had in college, he'd greet me as "hippy" and I'd greet him as "Nazi" and he'd do the Sig Heil sign and we'd laugh about it.
Over the years, I heard more and more right-wingers I knew saying things like Clinton/Obama/Kerry/Clinton again were out to destroy America, that they hated America, blah blah blah. People who used to tolerate my difference of opinion from theirs started to distance themselves from me, unfriend me on Facebook, etc.
I didn't change, they did. I don't think they hate America, but they decided that I do, for some reason or another. Leaving my theories about why that happened out of it, I just have to say, they moved away from me, rather than vice-versa.

Very similar to me. Very. But I have blocked people myself, mostly because they will not listen when I show them how wrong their information is. They have shown time and again they don’t care. Sure I could scroll by, but I just don’t want to see it if I can help it.

You've heard that back in the 1950's Russians were planted into American life, to pose as simple Americans.
They were called sleepers, because they were supposed to sleep until their agent signaled them with some mission.
I have a theory that is what Republicans are. That is why they knee-jerk to attention, whenever Russia calls for anything. Mitch McConnell opposes any sanctions on Russia, and Lindsey Graham backs anything that Trump, Putin's "useful idiot" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Useful_idiot), favors or proposes.

Ah guys, I don’t think we should dismiss anyone’s ideas, or views or opinions.
He may be right. We don’t know. I’d like to hear more. I’m always open to new ideas. I certainly think there’s a shit ton of stuff we have no idea about.

Eds it is the exact plot of The Americans.
Of course there have always been 5th columnists in every country whenever there’s a war on.
But I know for certain that some of the people Ben and I have had personal experience of do NOT have any Russian background.

We watched it ages ago. Well I did for the first two seasons hoping that Kerri whatshername would act or emote or SOMETHING, then I gave up. Mr. C watched it all. He thought it was great.

It goes back before that. Look up a show called I Led Three Lives, about a counter-agent/Boston citizen named Herbert Philbrick, who hunted down these communist sleepers for real. It was based on real life. I'm sure that The Americans is a remake. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Led_3_Lives
Now, I would have written this off to fiction except for the real-life story of Philbrick, and what is recounted in Luke Harding's book, Collusion (2017). Harding recounts exactly how Russian operatives ensnared Donald Trump with promises of a Moscow hotel, and hookers in the Ritz Carlton-Moscow, as was confirmed by his behavior in Helsinki, and numerous other incidents like trying to reverse the sanctions.
Russia is on the make, except under the guise of organized crime, rather than an honest political doctrine. But the guy running the show this time, is a well-schooled KGB former-director. They picked a winner with Donald Trump, to everybody's surprise including Putin's. I'm sure that Putin didn't have just one pigeon in the coop. Note that McConnell has a Chinese wife, just as Trump has an eastern European wife. I have suspicions about Lindsey Graham and Devin Nunez. These guys struck gold when, surprise of surprises, they actually got their guy into the top seat.
I don't think these guys ever expected to win, just as none of us expected Clinton to lose. But it happened, and the Russians were as surprised as we were. There are too many coincidences for this not to be true. Look how Trump tries to destroy the credibility of American intelligence. Now that they know that they can pull it off, expect a heavy push this election cycle.
