Banned posters.
Forgive my newbieness - but where is the thread that notifies the forum of when members are banned, by whom, and the reason?

Principally so that I can see if a member is banned when they are absent - and if so when they are likely to return. The reason why is just a courtesy to other members. It's a common thread on many forums.

No way of knowing - there's no thread informing the forum if and when it occurs.

There's no need for a whole forum to know on the day it happens but if it gets asked I won't lie either.

I explained that earlier - so that we might know why someone is missing and when and if they might return. On friendlier forums where some people actually care about their fellow posters such a thread is standard - but I accept that this is not a friendly forum.

Re: Banned posters.
How is not announcing that a member has been banned being "unfriendly"?
Tell you what, any time you're worried about a fellow poster's disappearance, you can PM me and I'll let you know what I know about said disappearance.
How's that?

A partial solution I suppose - but why are the Mods on here so keen on secrecy?

Re: Banned posters.
we are not concerned about secrecy
we are just too lazy to be concerned about making threads that serve no purpose....
when we DO announce a banning the thread has to be locked to stop a shit fest
cos everyone has an opinion on the action....and guess what .....YOUR opinions on who and for how long someone is banned are irrelevant

Re: Banned posters.
I already answered your question in all honesty, when I logged on. Read back, I said "No one has been banned".
I don't consider it being secretive, I consider it respectful to the poster who's been banned or basemented. They may not want people to know via announcement, but like I said, I wouldn't lie, if asked.

I didn't ask ifanyone had been banned - I asked about a thread, in part, as a suggestion
But fair enough, it is your forum - run it how you please.

The thread in question on other forums is locked permanently and for admin/mod use only - each infringement/sanction is recorded as a single one line post - no effort required, and no shit fests.
And guess what - I wasn't suggesting that "MY opinions on who and for how long someone is banned" be taken into account - so drop the attitude.

Don't be surprised. You have a lot of friends who may come to your aid when it happens. The publicity clears the air. Only the authoritarians want to hide the fact.

I don't think I knew...and when I learned, you were back. See? Case in point: we should have a thread which informs us.
And too...there is the possibility that I agree with the sanction, since most are just 1 - 2 days. I think the only permanent ban I ever fully accepted was Phil's, cause he is nasty.
But with scrat, Dean, even whats-his-name—right, Didge, who was suspended several times—I have spoken up. BTW, where is Dean? He's a real addition to the place.

I read you were banned but by then I think you had been reinstated.
My suggestion, for what it's worth is.. if a person is banned and banished to the basement, if others know, they can post there where the person out of favour can respond.
I remember someone saying when Didge was down there people made a point of posting there so he could carry on contributing.

Aww don't be like that, HT. I assume he is here for the same reason you, me and everyone else is here. He likes posting here! Like we all do!! (Yes despite his slightly sarky remark.) He seems to enjoy the discussions and find them mentally stimulating. Ziz knows that several people have also been asked lots of times why they post here so I'm sure he won't take your question to heart, he's wise one.HoratioTarr wrote:Ziz wrote:

I have also seen other people do threads asking why so and so is banned, so again there is nowt unique about a thread of this nature. It was only a 3 day basementing anyway, ... so no biggie.

Guess what? I don't give fuck if my opinion is not required, you'll get it anyway. And I'm afraid giving an opinion is not against the rules.
And no, I didn't fail to understand, I saw it for what it was. As for games, you seem to be playing them all the time, I have far too much else on to be bothered. As Ziz said, drop the attitude and you might get different reactions, but at the moment you are so aggressive and patently out to beat your chest as much as possible where certain posters are concerned, I really am finding it difficult to take you seriously. You seem to have undergone a personality change and I'm trying to work out which Vic is the real Vic.
