Annoying Posters/adverts (not forum posters).
Hi gang. I don't know if you're like me but it annoys me when I see posters and adverts etc that just are not true and logical. Example:
On the wall behind the deli' counter in our Morrisons is a big poster saying: 'We search the globe from the Black Forest of Germany to the Swiss Alps.'
Search the globe? It's 24,000 miles in circumferance but the Black Forest to Swiss Alps can't be much more than 3 or 4 hundred miles.
Another one that's not true. I'm sure you've all seen them outside cafes: 'All day breakfast.'
Surely breakfast is an early morning meal, not all day. What the notice aught to say is: 'All day fry-up.'
What annoys you?

the all day breakfast thing makes sense, it is for shift workers and those lazy hipster types that don't get up til afternoon.
And technically
'break-fast' is just the first meal after sleeping.
AND Yes I get annoyed by things that just are not true or logical...

Its a metaphor, star. They always grow. Search the globe = doing a thorough job of looking for something.
Another one is 'literally'. It means 'exactly, in a literal sense'. But it is often used to merely to mean more intense (than similar).

Wh hen reports in the media say,4 out of 10 people say this that or the other. When I was at School I was tought that you should all ways bring things down to their "common denominator" so 4 out of ten should be 2 out of 5. I know it's "nit-picking" but------

Hi folks, thanks for the response.
Another claim which in many cases is untrue is Farm Shop, where they sell fruit and veg. I know of a couple in our area who buy their produce from fruit and veg' auctions. They might buy some from a local farmer but the stall is not owned and operated by the farmer.

FROM on rails and adverts annoy me, it is plain misleading...
or supermarkets that advertise how much they have reduced it in such a way as it looks like the new actual price...

How about "Ma's Home Cooking" or a restaurant sign?? Blatant failure to grasp the concept.

Good answers folks.
I live in a town which is on the route to coastal resorts and always very busy with holiday traffic. The fuel stations on this route charge way above prices per gallon than any further inland. Ripping off the tourists.
Talking of fuel, I have noticed that supermarket fuel isn't so efficient as that from independant garages who sell well known brands of fuel. I always fill up at those smaller garages and find that I get much better performance and mileage per gallon.

I absolutely hate adverts that say that this new product of theirs is the "best yet!"
Is it? Is it really??
Okay then, take your other failed and shit attempts off the shelf and only sell me your "best yet" then!!!

My "favorite" was a brand of frozen vegetables that advertised itself as being "fresh from the freezer"

Have you noticed how Supermarkets reduce the price of a product but after the offer finishes the price goes up higher than the original price.
Gelico mentioned apostrophes. I get annoyed at those people who will keep saying 'your' when they mean you're, you are.

Yes, it is one of the tricks they teach in MBA classes on retail. I guess the psychological theory is that you forget the past price. You are supposed to just notice it was on sale, then it wasn't.

That used to annoy me too, until I caught myself doing it...and often. When I get going typing I guess I just type from cortex habit pattern, and that's what comes out. Most of the time, I revert to 'their', I don't know why. It bothers me too, and half of those notices that I have revisited the post (see below) is to correct 'there', 'their' and 'they're'. Also, I drop an 'e' often, though that might be the keyboard.

Don't get me started on the age stuff. The late-life sex concerns, like erectile dysfunction and now they've got a pink pill to match the blue Viagra. OMG...if my mother ever saw that she would break the TV, screaming 'dirty', 'dirty'!

We have late night ads selling sex toys!! I find that a little disturbing - and I'm no prude!

Erectile dysfunction!

Another one that annoys me is cyclists who cycle the wrong way in a one way street. It happens often in our town, then they'd blame the poor old car driver if they get knocked over.
