Delivery man tells young boy to stop dressing as a fairy.
First topic message reminder :
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/mum-furious-after-son-wearing-8975210?ICID=FB_mirror_main
"Wendy, who also has a two-year-old daughter, Felicity, said she couldn't believe her ears.
She said: "If he had said it's unusual to be a fairy, we wouldn't have have thought too much of it but saying someone should take Isaac to one side implies he was doing something wrong.
"I feel disappointed that there are still people in this world that ask questions like that and and think it is their right to tell other people what they can and cannot wear.
"My son has been more reluctant to wear his fairy dress since, he has only worn it once or twice whereas he used to wear it all the time."
Obviously the delivery driver should have minded his own business, but should a 4 year old boy be encouraged to dress up as a fairy?

eddie wrote:No because you've just confused him. His next question will be "Why are some clothes unisex?"
And you don't really know the answer if you're honest. Who does?
What you're really saying is:
"I don't want you to wear that dress because boys aren't supposed to wear dresses (don't know why that is, we've just been told that once - my mum told me) and if you do wear it then you might get called a name (that won't be your fault but you will have to be the one to make the sacrifice even though you've done nothing wrong) and life is just easier if we wear what we are supposed to and mummy won't worry and you won't have to deal with bullies until they may find something else to bully you about if you're unlucky"
And Syl I don't get it. It's like bowing down to what other's think and at the same time planting the seed that they must "always fit in".
They have enough time at senior school having to wear uniforms and at work all their adult life - why not let them just be children?
Have to go Eddie, I will answer later. x

Sexuality is in your genetic make up - wearing a skirt won't make a jot of difference.
You shouldn't advocate assaulting a delivery driver just because you don't agree with him.

And delivery drivers shouldn't verbally assault children and their mothers simply because a male child is wearing a dress.
I'd have slapped him too.

Re: Delivery man tells young boy to stop dressing as a fairy.
Chances are he won't want to dress as a female character within a few months or years anyway -- kids are constantly changing!
If he grows up and decides he wants to wear dresses exclusively -- it's his life!

Probably not rags. Some of us are just passionate and often react out of emotion.

Hmmm, I think that's why assault is against the law - too many people act out of "emotion" without thinking of the consequences.

Yes rags and too many people like to stick their noses in to people's lives instead of delivering a box and asking for a signature. That was the guy's job.

You sound a bit like a the radical Muslims you criticise here. You need, you should, you must....
From my own experiences with my brother, I'm older than him by 14 years, he was given free rein to dress up as he pleased at home during playtime, which is what this thread is about. It's what he gravitated towards...in his case because he's gay. I don't think anyone is suggesting thisboy be allowed to dress up as a fairy to school.
Making a big deal of these issues is worse than the fairy costume. Like making kids feel guilty about masturbating.

So don't let the kid answer the door then. It's not as if the kid could sign for it. You can't go around slapping people just for a throwaway remark like that - it's uncivilised and stupid.

He was uncivilised and stupid.
I daresay the mother was opening rhe door with the child....a child will run to the door when the doorbell goes and mum is right behind. Not quite sure why you keep mentioning the door opener.

It says she "overheard", so she clearly wasn't actually at the door at the time. She should pull herself together - it's not exactly headline news is it? Fancy allowing the press to print a pic of her boy in a dress all over the country.

Re: Delivery man tells young boy to stop dressing as a fairy.
I've mentioned this fact on the other thread but I'll say it here again.
Up until the early 20th century, little boys and girls all wore dresses. A boy wore a dress until the age of 'breeching' and that could be up to age 8.
What is deemed 'acceptable' changes like fashion. No doubt in 100 years' time it'll change again. There is actually no 'right' or 'wrong' with something so trivial as what you wear.

two of the greatest gifts you can give your child....
the ability to say "fuck you your opinion is worthless" and hence not give a toss about what others think
AND
teach him/her to fight...hard and nasty...teach him/her to turn anger outward into naked and effective agression in defence of self......

I'm certainly not going to side with a woman who is clearly attention seeking and thrusting her kid into the press for no good reason. It's ridiculous.

See, I disagree. Eddie says she'd have smacked him one, which I don't think for one moment she actually would have, and it's a just a figure of speech. And here you are, advocating more violence. The problem in the world these days is that kids do say 'Fuck you and your worthless opinion' and more and more we see wild, feckless youngsters beating each other up for shits and giggles.
Better to teach your kids to respect their elders, not take bad words or actions to heart, and defend themselves only when necessary...which is what martial arts teaches.

WHY should they have a blanket respect for their elders....uh no respect is earned even by adults from kids...
and I'm surprised at you HT...you didnt ever strike me as a lefty, and yet here yo8u are falling into this lefty trap of "respect everyone"
buulshite........
you dont (of necessity ) have to respect that policeman (after all you may well know he beats his missus every night)
but you SHOULD respect "the police"
you may well not respect that judge (after all hes a racist git that lets everyone but white englishmen off with trivial sentences)
but you SHOULD respect the institution of the court
you may well not respect the crop of MPS that exist in westminster
but you SHOULD Respect PARLIAMENT
and so on
the left emphasis on the individual, at the expense of the institutions that run the job has a lot to answer for

The word fairy is itself perjorative, aside from other considerations. That complicates matters further.

Are you a dictator?
Why can't a white boy dress up as a black boy with face paint if he wants to...?
What if all his peers were black and he just wanted to fit in...?
What's so wrong about that?
Are you a dictator?
What's wrong with a boy wearing a burka if he wants to?
Or how about just wearing the bag type top bit over his head and running around with a broomstick up his arse shouting 'expeliamas'...?
Why not... if that's what he wanted to do...?
What if all his peers were head bag wearing Muslim girls who liked Harry Potter films...?
What is so wrong with that...?
If that is what he wanted to do... why not...?
Are you a dictator...?
The difference between you and me, tommy, is I can, and am about to, give ACTUAL reasons for or against those things you mention.
1) White people wearing black face paint is offensive due to its role in the past as promoting racial stereotypes- that's why.
2) I'm against the burkha (as in full body covering where only the eyes are seen) in general for security reasons. For kids or adults.
3) I have no problem at all with boys dressing up as witches. Again it's just for fun so whatever.
Now YOUR turn- WHY should a boy not be allowed to dress as a fairy or in a dress IF he wants to?

Again you can't just SAY something is wrong and have that be it. You have to justify WHY it is wrong or you are just being arrogant.
Did you know original pink was for boys and blue for girls? (Not long ago in relative terms). But now YOU would say pink on boys is WRONG. For no reason other than deeply entrenched social brainwashing.

Abusing a delivery man in front of a young child is not setting a good example, and it would just make you look common.

I'll stick up for him. I'm sure I won't lose any sleep if someone like you calls me a "bad person". After all, you're a racist, abusive moron who advocates social and ethnic cleansing.

Tommy is wrong until he gives a good explanation as to why he is right.
A boy can't wear a fairy costume because he can't, doesn't cut it.

Yes. She wasn't even downstairs at the time. Did she write down what he said? Did she actually go to the press with this "story"?
Her husband was downstairs unpacking the shopping, which is weird as, according to this woman, the delivery driver said it when the kid answered the door.
I hope Sainsbury's actually asked the delivery man what he actually said instead of just assuming that the woman was right. They shouldn't talk about their drivers in public anyway.

Did he actually say that? Saying he can wear one isn't a good explanation either. It's just a difference in opinion.
