Katie Hopkins Attacked For Migrants Column After Drowned Syrian Toddler Washes Ashore
First topic message reminder :
vehemently anti-migrant column penned by Sun columnist Katie Hopkins, which saw her invite the media to show her “bodies floating in water”, has resurfaced amid heartbreaking images of a drowned Syrian toddler washed up on a Turkish beach. On Wednesday three-year-old Aylan Kurdi was found face-down on a beach in Turkey, after the vessels carrying him, his family and 19 other refugees sank as they attempted to reach the Greek island of Kos. Images of Aylan’s tiny lifeless body being gently carried from the shore have shocked the world – and brought back to mind Hopkins’ comments, in a piece entitled: ‘Rescue boats? I’d use gunships to stop migrants’.
The mother-of-three likened those fleeing war torn nations – like Aylan and his family who left their hometown of Kobane after it was besieged by Islamic State militants – to “cockroaches” and called for them to be turned away with force.
“No, I don’t care. Show me pictures of coffins, show me bodies floating in the water, play violins and show me skinny people looking sad.
The column which dates back to April has put Hopkins in the firing line on social media once again.
In August it emerged Hopkins had been questioned by police over allegations of incitement of racial hatred – believed to be in connection with the column. A petition calling for Hopkins to be sacked from the newspaper reached more than 300,000 signatures and even the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights added his voice to the protests. Jordanian Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein said the reality television star had used language in her column similar to that used by newspapers and radio stations in Rwanda before the 1994 genocide that led to hundreds of thousands of people being slaughtered.
Al Hussein urged authorities in the UK to use the law to clamp down on "vicious verbal assault on migrants and asylum seekers in the UK tabloid press", adding: "The Nazi media described people their masters wanted to eliminate as rats and cockroaches. This type of language is clearly inflammatory and unacceptable, especially in a national newspaper.
"The Sun's editors took an editorial decision to publish this article, and - if it is found in breach of the law - should be held responsible along with the author." In June Hopkins reflected upon the column, admitting she regretted some of the extreme language she used. She told the Press Association: "There's some things about that column, there are some words which in hindsight you'd probably look to pull out of there.
"But I think overall my message isn't about the idea that we want to see migrants and people suffering, it's an idea that we need to find solutions to problems."

Perhaps the Government should just have a worldwide tax on anyone who might want to come here one day. After all, being a tax payer in the UK doesn't seem to mean a thing.

Developers? Yes I would, they are leeches on society, they are the reason why people don't have housing. They don't leave it to rot because they don't have the money to develop, they leave it to rot because years down the line it will make them more money and they have enough in the bank to wait. Well, people needing housing don't have time to wait.

I don't know of any developers who build houses and then just leave them standing empty. What would be the point of that? They might as well make money by renting them out or selling them at the time.

not every 'developer' is born with a silver spoon in their mouths sassy. people become rich from wise investments and damn hard work. of course they want a return on their money. why wouldn't they? your solution is just to steal what someone else has worked hard to get? how is that a moral solution?

No Rags, they buy the buildings on the land they are going to flatten and develop, and then they leave them standing for years and years before they actually develop them. Haven't you heard the rows about it? Do you never read anything? They buy the building (which are probably two or three on a piece of land) for x£s. They wait 5 - 10 years when the land is worth xxx£s then they sell it on.

This from 2013, and nothing has been done since:
Build homes or lose planning permissions, Nick Boles tells developers
Developers must start building homes or lose planning permission, the minister involved has said, as part of a Coalition drive to accelerate construction.
They will no longer be able to wait years before beginning projects, Nick Boles, the planning minister, announced. The change in regulations is designed to prevent “land banking”, where developers hoard plots while waiting for house prices to rise.
Should building work fail to start within an allocated time set by a local council – three years in most cases – developers will have to reapply for planning permission.
Companies were previously able to “roll over” approvals granted on undeveloped land indefinitely.

Announcement likely to be seen as response to Ed Miliband’s Labour Conference speech, in which he said developers would have land seized if they failed to use it

Also... KH was talking about the flood of sub Saharan African economic migrants floating around off Libya...
They are not Syrian refugees... they are economic migrants and illegal immigrants.
Should all be delivered back to the African union to deal with.
You see, the more we allow and set up in nice houses and give money to each week etc, the more that will think that they can come too and get the same!!!
Where do you draw the line!?

So let me get this straight.
That article makes a presumption based off her investigating something, though failing to provide any actual evidence linking this to the claimed paedo gang?
Its plausable of course, but it is merely a hyoothesis based around people wanting this to be something more outlandish, to make sense of her murder.
LWay too much hearsay within your link, where it tries desperately to make a connection.
So you present a possibility, one that really only guesses.
As to your next point on refugees, so you still cannot grasp the definition of them.
The 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees is the key legal document in defining who is a refugee, their rights and the legal obligations of governments. According to Article 1 of that Convention, a refugee is someone who has fled his or her country “owing to well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion.”

EU rules state that they must register in first EU country they arrive in.
They are no longer fleeing anything if already in a safe country.

It does not matter what EU rules states, what does matter is the agreed UN convention to define refugees.
You cannot claim someone is safe if there is a genuine threat of persecution.
To claim if they are in a safe country from fleeing persecution changes their status, it shows why you are a such a thicky
The status is assigned to those fleeing persecution, end of story, as they have to be grantded citzenship to change their status from refugee to citizen. They are thus and never will be migrants.

Once in safe country they are no longer fleeing... they have fled... and arrived in a safe country... no longer an excuse to carry on moving to other countries of their preferred choosing and still claiming to be entering as refugees.

The status clearly defines refugees, those fleeing their homes. Many Poles fled to France after defeat with Germany, where they fought as refugees. They then had to flee to the UK, where they were still refugees. They are defined by how they have left their country, not by which country they are in. You are just looking for the most pathetic reason to deny helping people who are refugees. Your reason is selfishness born from negtaive reasoning. So they can end up in countless countries and remian refugees because they are a displaced people and until they gain citizenship off a nation they remain as refugees.
You are so thick its embarressing.

Certainly is an emotive issue, isn't it. Based on some of the answers above, should we then open our doors, and arms, to those hundreds and thousands in Calais? Should we welcome them as well?
Oh well, perhaps we'll have a few more car-washes in town. We've got three of them, I'm sure we could do with some more. (ahem! all run by Euro-migrants.) And being extremely caustic, sod the unemployed English, let 'em go to food banks and the dole, let 'em have to claim for rent and council tax reductions. Let 'em see doctors and dentists etc who's accents they can't understand.
Come on Didge, old mate, be realistic. We're not being racist just looking at our national problem. The way things are going you'll see one day a Moslem parliament, what then England???

Yes lets be reasonable here stardesk, your reasoning is "me, me, me".
You did nothing to create the situation you were born into.
You were thus advantaged and yet you wish to deny a prividge you have based on nothing more than geography?
Is your reasoning really caring about the plight of refugees or how you would feel more comfortable with?
You have not really faced the threat of losing your home to strangers. If you did you would understand your reasoning is poor.
You live by fear stardesk, when I thought you were enlightened?

Hi Didge. Me, fear? Not at all. As I keep saying it's a case of looking after our own people first. Yes I'm saddened by what I see and hear about the refuges, but shouldn't they stay in their own countries and try to alter things for the better, instread of running away?
Our way of life is under threat. How would you like to be banned from eatring bacon. How would you feel knowing the meat you are eating was halal? Where the animals have their throats slit, instead of being slaughtered humanely. How would you llike not to hear church bells ringing out on a Sunday morning, but instead hear a Muzzin (moslem preacher) shouting out Koranic verses.
Finally, have you given any thought to how many IS militants are coming here under the cloak of refugee? Watch this space!
'Oh England, my beloved England, where are you now?'

Sorry stardesk that is absurd. How do you try to reason with a gun pointed at your head?
To stay where you are persecuted means certaion death unless you have enough people to rise up with you.
Your way of life? You mean your adopted way of life. By using threat you are ruled by fear stardesk.
You ask me have I given any thought to yet another threat, how mnay ISIS we let in? Fear again Stardesk. Yes I have given thought, one that applies unity.

Totally different to Syrians trying to leave safe countries to go to others of their preferred choice for purely economic reasons...

You have no facts, you try poorly to invent some
Refugees are people who flee a genuine threat.
You do not get to decide that.
Reason does.
You then claim France became a non safe country, well done, which means no country is really safe is it Twatty?
You always walk into them do you not Tommy, as by yout reasoning of France, what was a safe country can no longer be classed as one.
You are just a twat and look for reasons to be inhumane.

The situation in Syria is far too dangerous now for them to stay. I reported one case yesterday of a Syrian surgeon who has stayed on in Syria fro 4 years treating the injured, but even he now has fled as he says the situation has ultimately became too dangerous. Would you really stay on in a country where murder, torture, rape etc are rife and could be imminent for you and your family? For your children to witness the atrocities committed?
And who has banned you from eating bacon? You can walk into any supermarket and buy a packet of bacon, go home, cook it and eat it, right?

I reported one case yesterday of a Syrian surgeon who has stayed on in Syria fro 4 years treating the injured, but even he now has fled as he says the situation has ultimately became too dangerous. Would you really stay on in a country where murder, torture, rape etc are rife and could be imminent for you and your family? For your children to witness the atrocities committed?
And who has banned you from eating bacon? You can walk into any supermarket and buy a packet of bacon, go home, cook it and eat it, right?
welcome to England all the things you mention are right here on our doorstep

I can't believe you're actually comparing the situation in Syria to what's going on in freaking England.
Tell me more about the bombs being dropped from planes and entire cities being taken over by terrorists ...
Re: Katie Hopkins Attacked For Migrants Column After Drowned Syrian Toddler Washes Ashore
in reference to the O/P
freedom of speech has already been crippled in this country
and now the lefty hand wringers are crying out for freedom of opinion to go the same way, whereby it will become illegal to hold an opinion other than the "official one"
you should perhaps look more closely at you beloved "uman rights act"
where freedom of opinion is expressly protected as by implication and precedent is the right to communicate that expression to others even when such opinion is considered objectionable, wrong, or disliked...
the lefty agenda at work....
cripple HOW people can express themselves
then cripple the right to even have something to express.....
how soon I wonder when all we are allowed to hold as opinion is how good the lefty way is
when its little grey men in little grey boxes
with little grey ideas doing little grey nothings......

I dont apporve of what KH has to say...I think she is an nasty moo and I dislike her opinions greatly...BUT
I respect her right to hold them AND communicate them.....
I happen to find the "let em all come here" brigade just as objectionable (though for different reasons)
clue......
KH is a nasty piece of shite
the bring em all here lefties are deranged.....

Hi Dibs. At least someone agrees with me. I don't think some of you are seeing the whole picture, but just looking at the edges.
Please, tell me, where are they going to work, probably for a lower wage, and displace our own people. Where are they going to live? Shall we build even more houses and flats on once-green belt land? How long will we have to wait at the surgery or hospital before we are seen? How many more schools are going to be built specifically for Moslem children?
The list is quite long so I'll leave it there. But I say again, look at the whole picture, at the realities of the situation, don't let your emotions rule your head, as altruistic as they may be.
Night night all.

Didge, quoting you: 'What you need to ask yourself is why you look for reasons not to help them?
That alone spells out your reasoning behind your views Stardesk.'
I've already explained my reasons Didge. IE: Housing, employment, NHS, at the cost of UK tax and insurance payers, taking advantage of social services hand outs, and much more. I'll help anyone in dire need, but thousands of them? NO.
OK? Does that explain my reasons?
Not many weeks ago there was a comment on the tv news about a moslem woman at the till/check-out in a supermarket, who refused to sell a customer bottles of wine! Is that the sign of things to come? Think about it Didge.
