Labour on course for GE victory!!!
UKIP 3 seats short of target is the surprise!!! How many councils did they win??? Zilch!,,,,and this despite the RWhinge throwing the kitchen sink and predicting an earthquake, so they turn up short, not even able to hit target, simply splitting the tory vote and this will serve its purpose, watching tories like Rees Mogg and Duncan Carswell smarm up to UKIP is excellent entertainment, and UKIP will continue to milk them, but their 17% of the vote share under the circumstances puts Labours 31% in the picture.
Labour projected 150 seats, they're 8 seats short of where they should be, but a lot closer thanks to UKIP, the fact that Labour gained so well in London is a massive blow to the tories and UKIP.
VOTE 2014 England

Despite the disgusting smear tactics levelled against Ed, his family and Labour Party the establishment have failed, and they'll continue to fail because the fact of the matter remains Labour are and always will be the only government natural to the British people.
Keep calm and vote Labour.

Re: Labour on course for GE victory!!!
Labour won a landslide victory 70 years ago because the great victorious British people wanted to live in country fit for hero's, fit for the people we are.
A half a century later and once again a landslide Labour victory, the people had suffered the abuse of Thatcherism long enough.
The British people want society, they want community, they want democracy, fairness and peace.
Landslide victories are themes from the past, we live in an era of cold reality and financial austerity, the only political party that can counteract some of the effects of capitalism is the Labour Party, considering anything else is just pants.

Pretty much depends on the Scottish referendum. Labour would be well and truly stuffed if they voted to go their own way! If they did vote to stay in though, I expect it'll be the usual nowadays, no overall control. Another factor of course is whether Labour ditches Milliband, but it would be pretty suicidal if they did. TBH I can't predict the outcome, too many variables.

Do they? Then why all the support for UKIP,a blatantly homophobic morally bankrupt party??
I think a significant amount of people don't want fairness and peace, infact they are sick of political correctness gagging them. They want to openly loathe people that are different to them.

...what ?...no UKIP whitewash Tess?
Sphinx certainly thought that!!!...
A good few votes and the some on the right get oh so excited!
If UKIP ever do progress to winning seats and having much representation HOC.. it won't be anytime soon.
UKIP are going nowhere fast and they seem delighted about it...the Tories and Labour again next year...a two horse race.
Remember Clegg said that of the Tories and Dems?
UKIP can only realistically expect to do will on the issue of the EU in the future, and although Cameron feels pressure on issues like immigration from UKIP, they won't even come near the Tories in the GE

This from UK Polling Report website today...
I’m having a nice rest after the election, but a brief update to add the BBC’s projected national vote – CON 29%, LAB 31%, LD 13%, UKIP 17%.
So in relation to my previous comments on the local results, Labour’s lead is indeed only modest, very much in line with their position in the national polls. And rather than UKIP doing pretty much the same as they did in last year’s local elections, they’ve actually done significantly worse – 17% as opposed to the 23% they got last year.

I'm a trifle confused. If UKIP have done significantly worse why is the media reporting that they have made headway? Why is Farage celebrating with a pint?

That's right Les..and we are quite sure they will.
Farage with the pint is just him grinning and bearing it Fluffy..he will do well on the EU front, no doubt about it....but he is nowhere even near the main three parties ..well..main two really when it comes to voting in the GE next year ..
A party without a single MP in parliament could barely even dent Labour or the Tories...
What a dilemma for hardline RW next year!...vote UKIP but weaken the Tory vote, or vote Tory to stop Labour winning and leave UKIP further stranded at sea!!!

I think political correctness has gone crazy tbh.
I also don't think that most people want to loathe others who are different. I think we just want our country back a little.....the Spanish feel the same about us!!

No-one got kicked in the heed and you really need to update yourself on why the demonstration took place, who organised it and why and reading this article will help you to do just that.

Absolutely right Irn!, So because we do to want that sort running around here chasing votes , Farage was now assaulted!!
It was funny he was told to fcuk off!!...his intentions are negative and would only help encourage division amongst already growing tension and hatred.

Freedom to demonstrate against policies that some people believe are fundamentally wrong is totally democratic and a right that we should cherish - always.
Your analogy of guillotining people and heads dropping into baskets with that demonstration is completely ridiculous.

Lefties are like muslims - the majority just want a decent life for all, but the activists... that's a different kettle of fish. It's always the leftie "peaceful" activists who turn up at meeting of people they don't agree with, and start the taunting and fighting. Maybe they just don't have the brains to argue their point, so resort to violence.Joy Division wrote:Tesstacious wrote:

In other words...lefties shouldn't have a right to argue their case, and if they show up, we will lie about them and say they became violent,,,then others will think bad of them, then we on the right...will be forever in control, because only we should be heard.
That's about it Tess.

It was always evident that no matter how well UKIP did in the elections, "the establishment" in the form of the three main political parties and the opinion-forming sectors of the news media would do their utmost to belittle their performance.
The inescapable fact is that in the local elections UKIP picked up 163 seats whereas before the polls they had none. And that is about a half of the seats gained by the Liberal Democrats who have a past record of performing pretty well overall in local government elections.
Not bad for the new kid on the political block, eh?
I would imagine that Cameron, Clegg and Miliband are not looking forward to the results of the far more important EU election with anything resembling enthusiasm, while "Nige" will, I feel, already be setting up the pints.
There was no local election in my area, so it would be pointless for me to speculate on how I would have voted; I'm one of those tiresome, old fashioned voters who actually reads a candidate's CV and manifesto before voting for him or her.
I did, however, have a postal European Parliament vote because I was in glorious Northumberland on holiday on polling day...and it went to UKIP.
I feel more than comfortable with that because European Parliament votes, which I firmly believe give the electorate absolutely no genuine powers and are a convenient fig-leaf to attempt to obscure the utterly undemocratic status of the European Union, are cast not for people based on their abilities but for parties based on their (usually broken) promises.
And it was, I will cheerfully admit, a protest vote...a protest about the way we are being dragged relentlessly into a de facto United States of Europe in which we are not allowed to vote for our President or Head of State (no need for the purists here to remind me that in the UK we do not vote for our head of state...because her Majesty reigns but does not rule); we are not allowed to vote for our cabinet and executive and we are allowed absolutely no say whatsoever in either the performance or behaviour of our civil service.
In fact the European Union is about as democratic as a South American banana republic run by a military junta.
If UKIP are going to spearhead a real movement to get us out, while Cameron makes a promise that he will not keep; Miliband will say and do exactly what his union baron paymasters tell him to say and do and Clegg continues to look forward to the day when the good and sensible burghers of Sheffield chuck him out so he can get back to living high on the hog as the Eurocrat that he once was, then UKIP will get my vote.

Re: Labour on course for GE victory!!!
Hi Edmund ...
I wouldn't quite say anyone is belittling anything!
We're only being truthful in that while UKIP have made gains..they are not even close to what they would need to ne successful in General Elections.
If anyone thinks so, and that UKIP will have many MP's in the HOC next year , they should say so..
But I doubt anyone will have such enormous confidence in them,
Yeah, mthen have done well , it I think some are getting just a tad over excited..
Just like when the BNP 'craze' kicked off.
Although they have done well in other areas, London boroughs are just so cosmopolitan, I just don't see that as outright UKIP territory.
But rock on the UKIP's ::rockout::

Sorry Me Lord, new kids on the block?
Hardly new and all that has been done is many people protest vote and I thought they would actually win some councils over all and they id not even win one, to me after all the hype to me it was a small gain, nothing to write home about.
Cameron will follow through with his pledge to say he will not, is what Ukippers believe, but not myself an many Tories. The reality is as seen in polls the majority at present do not even want to leave Europe, so clearly that message was not what made people vote for UKIP and it certainly is nothing to do with their policies, as seen which are awful, it had everything to do with a mass of working class Brits using a protest vote to wake up the main parties.
Sorry but he point also of MEP's is for a democratic process to have a voice and say within the EU, it is a false premise to say it is not and again it was Churchill who advocated this united Europe after too bloody world wars, that Europe would never sink again into such wars. I think people are reading too much into this to be honest me Lord, because unless UKIP radically changes its policies, it will be lucky to win 4 seats in a general election. The joke for voting for UKIP in the EU elections is the do nothing in the interest for the British public whilst there, it is a wasted vote, the real vote that would count would be in a general election not one on the EU, hence why people are more protesting than having any real belief in UKIP

Re: Labour on course for GE victory!!!
Scrat may, of course, be right in his typically gloating thread title.
However, he might just care to cast his mind back to 1992 when, buoyed up by similar predictions, a certain Welsh windbag called Neil Kinnock strutted around a stage in Sheffield on election night chanting "we're alright" like a parrot on speed...only, hours later, to have to concede defeat to probably one of the worst Tory PM's since the war.
Ps: Yes, although I know John Major personally and think that he was, and still is in spite of his escapade with 'orrible Edwina, a very nice guy, he was an unmitigated disaster as a party leader and PM...save for his tireless backstage efforts on the Northern Ireland peace process for which Tony Blair shamelessly, some years later, claimed entire credit.

I wouldn't deny that...their main raison d'etre at the moment is to rattle the mainstream parties into doing something positive about the EU scandal...and, by God, they might at last be doing it.

"New" in terms of having council seats, Didge. Personally, I never thought that they would actually win a council; having a presence and a voice is a valuable start...as has been the case with many political parties since the Whigs and Tories dominated the scene.
Cameron's commitment to a referendum is, to say the very least, lukewarm. He doesn't want one; he'll campaign against a "no" vote and - like Brown - he'll do his utmost to wriggle out of one at the last minute, in my opinion.
Churchill never contemplated a United States of Europe run on undemocratic principles; he and others like him believed that trade would be the catalyst to a conflict-free Europe of free and independent nations.
The "voice" which MEPs have in Europe is woefully limited (mostly centred on budgeting) and can - and is - routinely ignored by the Commission. The salaries, perks and privileges of MEPs are clearly intended to keep them "on message" and away from potential mischief-making.
I know that votes for UKIP are protest votes at the moment. I wanted to protest - so I voted UKIP. I'll bet my bottom dollar that a hell of a lot of voters did the same.
I agree with your prediction of parliamentary seats.

Definitely Scots...a good old McWotsit, though by marriage of course. Her late husband (my best drinking buddy) was a hairy-kneed Highlander who was most expert at reciting the Address to the Haggis on Burns Night - before assassinating the poor thing with a bloody big dagger.
