Greta Thunberg named Time Magazine's 'Person of the Year'

What a fantastic choice!
Greta Thunberg sits in silence in the cabin of the boat that will take her across the Atlantic Ocean. Inside, there’s a cow skull hanging on the wall, a faded globe, a child’s yellow raincoat. Outside, it’s a tempest: rain pelts the boat, ice coats the decks, and the sea batters the vessel that will take this slight girl, her father and a few companions from Virginia to Portugal. For a moment, it’s as if Thunberg were the eye of a hurricane, a pool of resolve at the center of swirling chaos. In here, she speaks quietly. Out there, the entire natural world seems to amplify her small voice, screaming along with her.
“We can’t just continue living as if there was no tomorrow, because there is a tomorrow,” she says, tugging on the sleeve of her blue sweatshirt. “That is all we are saying.”
It’s a simple truth, delivered by a teenage girl in a fateful moment. The sailboat, La Vagabonde, will shepherd Thunberg to the Port of Lisbon, and from there she will travel to Madrid, where the United Nations is hosting this year’s climate conference. It is the last such summit before nations commit to new plans to meet a major deadline set by the Paris Agreement. Unless they agree on transformative action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the world’s temperature rise since the Industrial Revolution will hit the 1.5°C mark—an eventuality that scientists warn will expose some 350 million additional people to drought and push roughly 120 million people into extreme poverty by 2030. For every fraction of a degree that temperatures increase, these problems will worsen. This is not fearmongering; this is science.

Well I for one don't buy it, "Person of the Year" or not.
Fred, I am much like you. I’ll reserve judgement whilst I watch. I like the fact she speaks up, but I’m not swept up in the media madness of the “sweetness of the girl”
We shall see.
Take each “story” with a pinch of salt, and wait, and read (something other than “big news”), and watch.

The main thing that worries me, Eddie, is that this child - and she is only a child - is being cruelly exploited.
I simply don't believe that she's some sort of child prodigy, and it's obvious to me that she is being systematically groomed and coached in much the same way that Judy Garland was groomed and coached into the stardom that resulted in so much tragedy in her life.
The fact that she is now travelling the world with a staff - a staff, for God's sake - like some of these "celebrity" TV preachers who are far more interested in lining their pockets and those of their associates than in saving souls.
Thunberg has accused adults of "stealing her childhood"...arrogant and arrant nonsense that has obviously been drilled into her by those who are intent on exploiting her. But the fact is she is being denied a childhood and robbed of her right to a full and rewarding education, and even the simple pleasures of enjoying life while growing into adulthood, by the very people who are so obviously controlling every facet of her life.
I don't know about you, but I call that child abuse.

Do you think it's possible that she didn't imagine that people would interpret that photo that way?
Why even take it?
She's already playing the game.

Thunberg said she didn't intend to suggest there was a problem and that crowded trains were actually a symbol of progress.
"Our train from Basel was taken out of traffic. So we sat on the floor on 2 different trains. After Göttingen I got a seat," she said.
"This is no problem of course and I never said it was."
"Overcrowded trains is a great sign," she added, "because it means the demand for train travel is high!"

See what happens when you don't tell the whole story?

You really are pathetic...

Yet if a left-wing person had left because of what a right-winger was doing, you'd say the lefty had flounced (perhaps in the manner of a triggered PC snowflake), not that the righty had chased him off.

Yeah, I know a double standard when I see one!
Whereas you righties spend so much time and energy trying to deny that double standards exist.

Consider the truth for one minute here, Ben...
If I have ever genuinely chased even one " (old) girl" away from NF over the years, the only one I can actually think of would be that nasty troll Horatio -- but even that possible claim to fame is a bit of a stretch..
Nicko is nothing more than a hatemongering lying piece of Tory shit, though -- as we all well know, by now. Just starting with the likes of sassy and 4ever, NF's RW nutters like nicko, Victor, smelly' and Tommy manage to chase off more wimmin-type folks than any of their despised "Marxist/communist/antisemite" foes ever have.
By their own admissions, it was after a tiff with eddie and gelico, that we have seen Ragga, Syl and whoever, take a holiday from here. Not that senile old fool nicko will ever let a small thing like the truth stand in the way of his attacks against his chosen enemies...
As for that braindead fucktard DopeyDawg chiming in with his usual run of bullshite -- nothing new there either.. Just more idiotic followup to his ridiculous Greta Thunberg/anti-climate/anti-science brain explosions this week.

Nobody on this forum talks to others the way he does.
If you can't see that, you're blind as fucking bat.
He's a nasty, vile, reprehensible waste of a human. The first person in at least a decade of doing forums, that I have blocked.
He's fucked up your forum, and your bias makes you blind to that fact.
What are there, about 6 members really doing any posting anymore?
Edit.
7 counting Lurker, playing harmlessly by himself on his own two threads.

I'm sorry, what bias is that? Wolfie will tell you that I've told him several times that he only makes himself look bad when he talks to other members like that, if he's being truthful.
At the same time, he does make me laugh. Because I see the same people who whine about PC and say "it's just words!" tell me that Wolfie's words are destroying everything and everything's just so very terrible because of what he says.
Do you choose to take offense or are you helpless to not take offense to offensive words? There's a simple answer that nobody seems to be able to live by besides me. It's hypocrisy, and I don't know if I've mentioned before how much I FUCKING HATE HYPOCRITES.
It's a double-fucking-standard, and I'm a bit tired of biting my tongue to appease others' sensibilities. How about this?
If you want to complain about people getting offended by bullshit on Twitter or Facebook or wherever on the internet, then you have no right to get offended at what Wolfie says at a different URL.
If you want him to shut up then you have no right to criticize people who try to shut other people up, because you're NO FUCKING BETTER.

Oh, and before anybody tries -- I never banned smelly. Never. And I can prove it.

You really are one pathetic hypocritical fat ol' weasel--mouthed turd, Dopeydawg...
You find me "nasty, vile, reprehensible..." in the way that I reply to a small handful of even worse people than me..
You think you're a good example of fine upstanding humanity -- with your loathsome and selfish attitudes towards poor people, disabled people, environmental protections, average workers, universal health cover, and anybody who dares to show any left-leaning thoughts.
You really are quite a stupid, blind and narrow-minded little fuckup, if you really consider me to be the worse person that you have encountered online over the last decade..
Just on NF alone, smellybandit, TDYK, Horatio Troll and the long gone Nems, (and not forgetting the ace mongrel Major/Stormee from before your time..) have all been guilty of both trolling this site, and launching far worse attacks than what anyone has received from me. And unlike those trolls, my sorties against others have been mostly defensive.
For someone who claims that he supposedly "blocked" me 6 months ago, you have no trouble continuing to attack me with your outright lying bullshit, you cowardly spineless braindead maggot.

I'm not whining. I'm telling you why people left and choose to not be exposed to him.
Life is short, forums should add something of value to that experience. Being insulted doesn't really add anything of value.
And being insulted is far different than being exposed to different opinions.

More a case of a 16 year old child who should be in school and enjoying the joys of growing up and preparing for an adult life being carted around the globe and exploited by a "staff" of hangers-on pursuing their own agenda while convincing gullible Left wingers that she's some sort of messianic child prodigy.
