First topic message reminder :

It's been brought to my attention that we've never banned insults that single out a specific gender, which was a massive oversight on my behalf. So from here on, nothing along the lines of "bitch" or worse.

Use your own judgment, of course. Insults aren't always insults among friends, right? And some are milder than others -- I don't see us banning "silly cow," for example.

Mods, please help me out on this one.

I think words like that are ugly, and say more about the person saying them than the person they're saying them to. They don't offend me, though, and that's not why I banned them -- I banned them because they offend the people who are called those words.

And anybody here who can't see the logic of that is probably just a honkified cracker-ass piece of white trash!

I think it depends on when you were brought up to a certain extent...for eg the C and T words, along with the F word was very seldom heard when I was a kid, it certainly was never on TV or film, so they were indeed taboo words for most people.
Now....and I have to say especially on forums, they are used so randomly they have lost any power they once had to shock. Used in conversation they dont bother me...used in realms of abuse they do.

Then again language is ever changing, Negro, coloured, half caste, terms which were once accepted are now not.
So yes, I think if other people get offended we try to re-educate ourselves just to pander to present trends.

a spokesman for the gay group says that now the word gay is offensive. the social arguments go back and forth with the gay group and they all agree (at least the vocal activists) that they don't like the word gay anymore

the rest of society then splits into those who feel frustrated, those who laugh, those who mock and also those who jump on it (again, vocal activists) and decide for the rest of us what we can or cannot say

gay or not, affects them or not, it doesn;t matter. it's something to get offended by, it's something to shout about, it's
