Re: Weather
We've been having some 'ODD ASSED WEATHER' around here in KS > > >
By Morgan Bell
mbell@wichitaeagle.com
More than 2,000 Westar Energy customers were left without power Thursday morning stemming from about 140 outages across the city, according to the Westar outage map.
The outages occurred at various times throughout the morning. With more storms expected to roll through the area, Westar expects power to be restored by 11 p.m. Thursday, a spokeswoman said.“Hopefully we’ll get it done before then,” she said. “With so many, we’re giving our crews enough time to work the outages.”Westar does not have a specific cause for each outage, but typically during storms, debris or vegetation on the lines is what causes outages, the spokeswoman said. Lines down were reported throughout the Wichita area.
Gusts up to 80 mph were reported in the Wichita area as thunderstorms blew through the area Thursday morning.
The National Weather Service called them hurricane-force winds, and more storms came through the area throughout the morning. They weren’t as strong as the first storm, though, according to meteorologist Chance Hayes with the National Weather Service in Wichita.

High Humidity + High Temps = HOT'R THAN HELL OUT THERE~~~
Dang, even the 'Good Humor Man' didn't survive the heat ...almost but not quite!Temperatures over 100 degrees and brutally high humidity will combine to deliver a potentially dangerous heat wave to much of the central and southern U.S. this week.
"This may be one of the worst heat waves in the last few decades," the National Weather Service warned.
Some 130 million Americans will endure heat indexes of at least 100 degrees, according to the Weather Channel
The intense heat will spread into the mid-Atlantic and Northeast by next weekend. Only the Northwest will not feel the full effects of the heat wave.
This will be the hottest weather so far this summer in the central U.S., AccuWeather said. Heat advisories and warnings have been posted in 14 states in the central and southern U.S., the weather service said.
Cities such as Dallas, Chicago, Oklahoma City, Kansas City, St. Louis and Des Moines are all in the zone of extreme heat. Some daily record high temperatures are possible in a few locations, but no all-time records seem likely.
Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit and Toledo could see 100-degree temperatures on Friday, WeatherBell meteorologist Ryan Maue said.
The heat index — which factors in both temperatures and humidity — could approach 120 degrees in some spots.
"This type of heat can cause heat stroke if you don’t take precautions, so be sure to drink plenty of water and if possible avoid being out in the sun between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.," according to WeatherBug meteorologist Andrew Rosenthal.
"More people die each year from heat than cold waves, lightning, tornadoes, hurricanes or floods," AccuWeather meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said.
The heat is due to a massive dome of high pressure that's predicted to camp out over the Plains and Midwest for much of the week, weather.com said. High pressure causes air to sink, preventing clouds and rain from forming.

My dear old buddy {Aussi dude} just was released from the hospital; he lives far southern tip of South Australia and after being in the hospital for over a month - the first breath of that cold outside air nearly knocked him on his butt.
We've been comparing notes on our 'whining' - horror stories of the WORST EVER and his stories have mine beat but he does tend to pull my leg, because he enjoys telling those yarns so very much. But at his age, those blasts of cold arctic air can be as dangerous as getting over heated so quickly too.

Finally ...maybe our HEAT WAVE has been broken!!!
And if I could - I would, be out dancing in our early morning rain shower;
the sound and smell is just soooooo wonderful. The humidity is going to be
better for the rest of this week - the oppressive heat is 'SUPPOSED' too be back into our normal ranges of 80's to 90's {no more triple digits until late Aug} I'm hoping!

Re: Weather
It makes me laugh when people say we are having a good summer...it's been absolutely horrible in the NW of England and N Wales.
I can count the sunny days we have had on one hand.
Today has been glorious, sunny and 75c, it's set to be a lot cooler and windy tomorrow....we seem get ONE DAY of summer weather and then it's gone again for another 2 or 3 weeks.

It's hot for here though, I would settle for a few weeks of that sort of temp, in fact I would be in heaven.
I think this summer we have averaged out here at about 15c....but it's been so grey and gloomy all the time, one of the worst summers so far.

Re: Weather
Really, when we get back to 75-degree days here in Texas, people will start dressing differently, me included. You just have to dress differently when it gets that hot (103 today, got a few 104s coming up):

Don't be stupid. He's obviously on his way to his mother's for a formal Tea. That thong is a Sunday thong. Look at the stitching.

Put it this way as to how weird this is -- the average high for today where I live is over 97 degrees. Right now (3 p.m. my time) it's 84 outside.

I'm chilly. I have my heating on, mind you, my back door is open too. I'm kinda losing money and doing something unkind to the ozone, probably.

Could not CONTEMPLATE running the heater in August. That for you would be like turning on air conditioning in January.
(We sometimes have to do that in Texas.)

This is the first time EVER, I've put on the heating in the summer. I'm not eating great at the moment so I think I'm extra chilly and it is much cooler this summer - especially the nights.

Still? It's quite breezy and chilly here.
I'm eating a bit poorly at the moment anyway. Sort of picking at things so maybe I'm just tired and not running on full gas. Dunno.
