Gay Marriage declared legal across the USA!
First topic message reminder :
So, the Supreme Court of the United States just legalized same sex marriages across the whole of the USA. They have declared the bans on it as 'unconstitutional'. Great news America! Though was this ever really in doubt longterm?
Gonna be a fair few weeping conservatives tonight I imagine, might want to be careful they don't cause the Mississippi to flood there

Re: Gay Marriage declared legal across the USA!
Jesus died so that heterosexual and homosexual sinners might be saved. Jesus created sexuality, and has a clear will for how it is to be experienced in holiness and joy.
His will is that a man might leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife, and that the two become one flesh (Mark 10:6–9). In this union, sexuality finds its God-appointed meaning, whether in personal-physical unification, symbolic representation, sensual jubilation, or fruitful procreation.
For those who have forsaken God’s path of sexual fulfillment, and walked into homosexual intercourse or heterosexual extramarital fornication or adultery, Jesus offers astonishing mercy.
Such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:11)
But today this salvation from sinful sexual acts was not embraced. Instead there was massive institutionalization of sin.
In a 5-to-4 decision, the Supreme Court of the United States of America has ruled that states cannot ban same-sex marriage.

equality doesn't mean everyone gets to do what they want, it means the same standard must apply to everyone.
AND it is completely separate from a business. a Business DOES NOT HAVE EQUALITY, it is subject to legislation and requirements specific to a Business. A business no more right to enforce it's personal beliefs on the public than to sell drugs. both are against the requirements for running a business.
apply equally to everyone, so if business people have the right to refuse any sale to any person then that should be their right by equality...
but why should a business be subject to homosexuals, what special rights do they have and why as they are a minority abnormal and unnatural..
will the law defend the Christian who wants the Muslim to make a cake that says allah sucks Jesus is the son of God..??
I think though that if someone wanted a cake with "Christianity sucks - support gay marriage", it would have been different because religious faith is protected to an extent.

If a gay baker had refused to decorate a cake with something like "Support Christianity", they would also have been discriminating and breaking the law.

Re: Gay Marriage declared legal across the USA!
The question is - would it be lawful to refuse to decorate a cake with "support heterosexual marriage" in the UK? The law says you cannot discriminate on the grounds of sexual orientation, so I guess it wouldn't be lawful. However, the implication is that the customer is saying they don't support gay marriage ...

that will teach me to read properly
No it would not strictly speaking be lawful, especially under the same circumstances in which the bakers refused the "gay cake" job.
however implications as suggested above dont count in law......

Yes it would be lawful, because simply supporting an idea isnt the same as actively discriminating against and, more importantly the law (in general) cannot go into "implications"...merely "what is" since defining what exactly is "implied" could only EVER be classed as "heresay"
You mean it would be unlawful to refuse.

What are you, a Marxist? Since when did the 'work' value become elevated over the 'lawful' value?
In this country, it has to do with interstate commerce. The government may pass laws that protect against inhibition of free commerce. Discrimination inhibits free commerce. Hence, in 1964 the federal government passed legislation against discrimination toward blacks. Blacks are a 'protected category'.
Heretofore, gays were not previously a protected category, so the laws prohibiting them went under the 'relaxed scrutiny' test. However, some have argued that in the Windson case, Justice Kennedy made gays a new protected category:
Outside the Beltway wrote:Doug Mataconis has already broken down today’s landmark gay rights rulings in some detail in “Supreme Court Strikes Down DOMA, Dismisses Prop. 8 Appeal For Lack Of Standing.” But the sweeping nature of the first ruling is worthy of further comment.
Justice Kennedy’s opinion in Windsor is far more sweeping than I would have predicted. I was expecting DOMA to be struck down on the basis on that it’s a state issue and that the Full Faith and Credit Clause trumped any statute. That would not only have been largely uncontroversial but have had no practical impact, since the Obama administration isn’t enforcing the law anyway.
Instead, the five justices in the majority have made sexual orientation a full-fledged protected class under the 5th (and presumably 14th) Amendment. That is indeed truly historic.
[analysis]
I haven’t had a chance, and am unlikely to have one for a while, to read beyond the lengthy summary. But Kennedy and the four liberal Justices have clearly issued a more sweeping ruling than they need to. Indeed, they make the states’ rights argument almost a subset of the larger Equal Protection argument. This would seem to set a rather powerful precedent that goes beyond the narrow question of marriage.
Italics added.

It seems like when they get to the point where they can't even tolerate business transactions with gay people, Christians are pushing themselves further and further from the rest of the world. It's funny, I thought Jesus sent them to save the world?

The bakers weren't bothered if the customer was gay or not, they just didn't like the message on the cake.
Why don't you lay off Christians? It's making you sound bigoted - you know, the thing you don't like?

That knee-jerk response makes you sound bigoted today, Raggs. I think it's time we realized that Christians today have distinguished themselves as the extremists, perhaps beginning with the Southern Baptists in the south.
There was a day when most felt protective of any group that identified itself as a religion. But the lines have blurred between religion and cultism and political activism. Look how the Catholics and Mormons have involved themselves in the anti-gay movement. Look how the Southern Baptists have involved themselves in the anti-black movement.
If Christianity, or any religion, wants to stand out there, they're gonna take some shots.

If you generalised about black people, yes - just like you just generalised about Christians.
OK, these particular Christians and many who agree with them shouldn't shut themselves off so much from others, because they make the entire religion seem like a closed-off little cult.
Better?
While we're at it, some Christians shouldn't be so sensitive.

Oh right. You're the one who's generalising and being bigoted, but you blame others for being "sensitive". I do hope you tell anyone who generalises about any group that it's fine, and that anyone who objects is being "sensitive".

No, what's happened here is that you took a statement I was obviously making about the type of Christians who can't even tolerate doing business with gay people, and pretended I was saying that was all Christians -- so you could take offense and paint me as a bigot.
Re: Gay Marriage declared legal across the USA!
Meanwhile, maybe we'd better revisit that old story of the British Muslim busdriver who wanted to pull over and pray a few times a day? Seems that poor old guy's religious freedom is being trampled!

Context, like other things...such as fairness good governance and equity , is beyond the ability of the religiously inclined...
I mean...they cant even correctly understand the context of passages in their various handbooks FGS.

All right, I'm sorry. Let me take one last crack at writing something that can't be taken the wrong way no matter how determined one might be to do so:
It seems to me, and I could very well be wrong, but a few Christians who have gotten to the point that they can't even do business with gay people -- now that's not to say it's only Christians ... um ... SOME Christians, who don't like gay people, there are other groups that don't as well ... but the ones who can't ... what the fuck was I talking about again?

because my religion doesnt cling to the outdated and irrelevant mutterings of an ancient and musty old book for one
my religion isnt regressive and dictatorial for another
my religion doesnt reject science and its discoveries....in fact we welcome, sometimes fund, and always encourage scientific enquiry.
you see ragga, most independant druids have long since rejected the bulk of even what little is known of "the old ways" as superstition and myth....either that or consigned to that file known as "past history in context"

The first time around (2008) Dr. Obama declared he was against gay marriage. Yes, I guess it was pandering of a sort.
During an appearance on Meet the Press in May 2012, Vice President Joe Biden stated he was in favor of full same-sex marriage rights, indicating a shift his position. Biden clarified that these were his personal views and not necessarily the views of the Obama administration.
After Biden's outing the administration, so to speak, a couple of days later Dr. Obama said, "At a certain point I've just concluded that for me, personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married."
He later indicated his views were evolving: "I had hesitated on gay marriage, in part, because I thought civil unions would be sufficient," he said. "I was sensitive to the fact that -- for a lot of people -- that the word marriage is something that provokes very powerful traditions and religious beliefs."

and you are stupid
lets try some logic...i know you being female it will probably pass you by but...
HF in various posts over time has made it quite clear that he considers that he speaks for ALL christians.
this is understandable since he considers that odd and aberant sect of his the ONLY true christians (and hence by logic the only christians....everyone else is wrong and logicaally therfore NOT "Really" christian)
So, this being the case according to HF YOU are not a "real" christian at all.....
this is exactly the same logic as applied by ISIS....they (and only they) are "true" Muslims...everyone else is merely "playing"
so therfore YOU are in the same position as the so called "normal" Muslim.......that is to say what ISIS does is ISLAM and wholey "Muslim" therfore its "your" fault
in your case what HF says is christianity at its best and wholey typically christian...and its your fault as well....

Sexist as well as anti-Christian. It just gets better and better.
If you have an issue with what HF says, address him. If you generalise about Christians, I will address you. Now that's logical.

so as predicted you missed the point
1)you are easily distracted because you are a classic "victim" always looking for something to attach your victimhood to......
2)the ultimate logic of the above is indeed beyond you....
and...you defend HF by staying silent when he posts wrongful rubbish...therfore you "sympathise" with him just like all those Muslims, who dont stand up and be counted...
logic little girl...logic......put whatever lies between your pigtails to work.....

Re: Gay Marriage declared legal across the USA!
I have said the bible speaks against homosexuality, i have never said I speak for all Christians......
obama is a Muslim that probably makes him against gay marriage, which given his gay past it is still hypocritical...

this is only a matter of "plausible denyability"
you have in the past made it quite clear that you consider your odd little sect to be the only "real" christians...
therfore you choose to speak for all true christians...i mean ...you have even had the temerity to speak for god, claiming to "know" the meaning of various things, that your interpretation is right...so by direct implication you speak for all christians (since the rest are not really christians at all....by your own logic)
obama is a Muslim that probably makes him against gay marriage, which given his gay past it is still hypocritical...
the above is absolute nonsense, without fact to back it, without any reality and merely the product of conservative delirium tremens
