Syrian Rebels Seize Crossing Point With Golan Heights
LONDON — Islamist opposition fighters in Syria, including members of an Al Qaeda affiliate, took control of the Quneitra crossing point on the demarcation line with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, activists said on Wednesday.
The move could bring Islamist forces within 200 yards of territory controlled by Israel. An activist in the area, contacted by Skype, said a coalition of Islamists, including members of the Qaeda-linked Nusra Front, opened an assault on the government-held crossing early Wednesday. The status of a United Nations force that is supposed to monitor the crossing point was unclear.

Could be a really big bang coming up.

Well, it they want to take on Israel, they will be wiped out.
I say it's interesting, because it would be a strategic move...and one not to healthy for them. The idea of creating the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant involves much less dangerous foes.
Israel is waaay too much for them.

A wise move would be to stick with the two states they're already occupied with before moving on to another, immrnsely more powerful state which isn't suffering political turmoil. But then again ISIS are not exactly wise; it may sound harsh but I would like to see them try it on with Israel, the outcome might just make it possible the UK needn't involve itself.

You don't want to involve the UK, any more than you want to point a gun at someone. You might have to use it. I know, domestically, the greatest defense the US has from getting itself involved, is the Republican-started war in Iraq. Softened a lot of hard-on's, that one.
If ISIL takes on Israel, they will soon be annihilated. One of the problems with going to war with Israel--which problem is a source of much talk on this very board--is, Israel doesn't fook around. They're attitude is, you want some...come and get it.

Exactly, which is actually a good thing in this case
I would support British involvement in Iraq (this time), but if we can watch Israel do the work for us, well so much the better is what I intended to say.

I would think that for the moment at least Israel will be content just to deal with any threat to them in the border region and not take it any further into Syria unless they go after supply lines re-enforcing these nutters.
Israel has the best equipped military in the region and they will get snuffed out in no time.

Yes, the real thing that is protecting ISIL is the relative distaste for violence and organized combat (ie, war) going on in the world today. If either the US or the UK wanted to go in there, LSIL would go down like bugs on a windshield. But the Republicans (and lapdog Blair) spent all the western righteousness on a fraudulent product...Iraq.
