Teachers are to be sent on training programmes to help them stop extremism entering the classroom, as damning reports show that some state schools have been imposing Islamic practices and attitudes.

The reports are due to be published by the education watchdog Ofsted next week, after inspectors carried out emergency checks in 21 schools in Birmingham following complaints of homophobia, the segregation of boys and girls in some lessons, refusal to teach sex education, bullying and invitations to extremists to speak at assemblies.

It is understood six schools, including Park View Academy, have been placed in special measures after inspectors found worrying evidence of religious interference in the classroom.

According to The Sunday Times, Sir Michael Wilshaw, the head of Ofsted, will claim next week that children in Birmingham are being denied a “rounded education” to prepare them for life as British citizens.

The Ofsted boss is expected to warn the education secretary Michael Gove that his inspectors have found evidence of some governing bodies being dominated by individuals intent on changing the character of schools.

If that's the conclusion then that's it, and good for them for reinstating the kind of education British children will need.

I've never understood people who feel that religion must edge into every aspect of a person's life, especially a child's. Don't have kids but if I do, they're going to get to learn, not be indoctrinated. If they end up following a religious faith it will be their own choice, not me or their mother shoving it down their throats.

If people insist on indoctrinating children, I don't know why they can't make it something they do at home and at religious services, rather than trying to make it happen at school as well. Then again, I've always thought there was something funny and fishy about the need for daily prayer, weekly church, etc. Almost like they know if you let the teachings sit for too long without reinforcing them, people might start to question them ...

M children went to Christian school my grandson is going to Christian school . We prefer it as most of the schools near us are horrible and don't get good results faith schools get better results .

my kids did loads of activities at church and school and thrived , not saying other kids don't .

My kids always chose whether they wanted to go to church on Sunday we didn't force them we never saw the point in that , if the didn't want to go then it was there decision , my kids learned of different faiths which i am pleased they need to learn this , but it didn't confuse them as they are founded in the faith . Just to make it clear though my eldest son was 9 when we all became Christians so he wasn't what many call brainwashed . My youngest son is highly intelligent and was 5 years old he listens takes it all in and makes up his own mind .

Ben what if you met a Christian lady who you wanted to have children with , would you make it clear not sing gentle lullaby's about Jesus and forbid her to teach your little one about her faith which she would be proud of ?

My grandson loves me singing him lullaby's about Jesus , I have even tried none Christians lullaby's but he likes the ones about Jesus .

The chief inspector of schools, Sir Michael Wilshaw, is to censure half a dozen schools in Birmingham for failing to prepare pupils "for life in modern Britain", when Ofsted publishes the results of its investigations into the Trojan Horse affair, in which it was alleged there was an Islamist plot to subvert schools in the city.

The tranche of reports on 21 state schools, which could be published as early as this week, say there was scant evidence of religious extremism on a daily basis in classrooms, with most criticism reserved for school management and cases of overbearing behaviour by school governors.
Ofsted's inspectors appear to have been unable to find much evidence of claims of homophobia or gender discrimination, which have been alleged by anonymous former teachers at some of the schools.

Six schools, including three operated by the Park View Academy Trust – Park View academy, Golden Hillock secondary and Nansen primary schools – are expected to be rated as "inadequate" and placed in special measures, allowing the Department for Education to remove the trust from the running of schools and replace their governors.

In the case of Park View, the inadequate grade would come a little more than two years after Ofsted inspectors rated the school as outstanding in all areas and praised it for its excellent academic results and inclusivity. In the two subsequent years its exam results have improved, but the latest Ofsted evaluation downgrades teaching and achievement.

The Sunday Times reported that one of the schools, Ninestiles Academy, had been given an outstanding rating and praised for its work with the police to combat extremism. Another school, Washwood Heath Academy, had been told it needed further work "preparing students to live in multicultural Britain".

Calm down dear its only a forum

Twisting what, you will see the report soon and can judge for yourself. Clearly there is evidence to show intimidation by the trust, hence why that are going to be removed through placing these schools into inadequate status. Thus the reason it has been done to these six schools, is that they can remove the trust.
So grow up and wait for the report but I bet you see little failing in the schools itself but more in regards to these school Governors.

As stated before and did say if the Governors were culpable then action is needed to be taken and Police if it is required, but there is utterly no evidence of a so called Trojan Horse

Labour MP Khalid Mahmood told Sky News: "There has been grooming, by a particular community, a school of thought within Islam, and would possibly lead to extremism ... not saying that children at school at the moment are extremist, but certainly they have been groomed in a particular way for that to be made easier at a later stage. That's what my concerns have been in Birmingham."

Fears that hardline Muslim governors have been infiltrating Birmingham schools go back at least two decades, and were raised with the government in 1994.

Sky News has learned that senior leaders at three schools in Birmingham were so concerned about the influence of Muslim extremists in the 1990s they took their fears to the top.

In a letter to education ministers, copied to then Prime Minister John Major, the heads said extremist group Hizb ut-Tahrir was gaining an alarming influence over schools in the city.

Former chair of governors at Golden Hillock School, John Ray, met with then education minister Emily Blatch in Westminster.
