Muslims Go to Catholic Mass Across France, Show Solidarity After Priest’s Murder
Muslims have attended Catholic mass in churches around France in solidarity and sorrow following the brutal murder of a priest in an ISIL-linked attack.
More than 100 Muslims were among the 2,000 who gathered at the cathedral of Rouen near the Normandy town where two teenagers slit the throat of 85-year-old Father Jacques Hamel.
"I thank you in the name of all Christians," Rouen Archbishop Dominique Lebrun told them. "In this way you are affirming that you reject death and violence in the name of God."
Nice's top imam Otaman Aissaoui led a delegation to a Catholic mass in the southern city where Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel carried out a rampage in a truck on Bastille Day, claiming 84 lives and injuring 435 including many Muslims.
"Being united is a response to the act of horror and barbarism," he said.
The Notre Dame church in southwestern Bordeaux also welcomed a Muslim delegation, led by the city's top imam Tareq Oubrou.
"It's an occasion to show (Muslims) that we do not confuse Islam with Islamism, Muslim with jihadist," said Reverend Jean Rouet.
The Muslims were responding to a call by the French Muslim council CFCM to show their "solidarity and compassion" over the priest's murder on Tuesday.
"I'm a practising Muslim and I came to share my sorrow and tell you that we are brothers and sisters," said a woman wearing a beige headscarf who sat in a back pew at a church in central Paris:
Giving her name only as Sadia, she added softly: "What happened is beyond comprehension."

That's really nice. It shows what we always say: it isn't the religion, it's the people committing the terrorist acts, that are to blame.

So without Islam, you believe there would be still be Islamic terrorism then?

Good to see. We need more of this and more understanding of each other.

I think there will always be a section of society that groups together, calls themselves the "Purple Ninja Group" (against all things not purple including some lilac people) that will find a reason to go around terrorising innocent people.

That is not the point being made.
Without Islam, there would be no Islamic terrorism.
There would be no belief around a view of Muslim lands being transgressed, no Jihad, no Islamic martydom. All major aspects that drive Islamic terrorists. Religion sadly plays a fundemental apart in the terrorism, as it makes people wrongly believe its righteous and just to butcher people, enslave people and rape people. Again all easily viewed and justifiyed in the religious text and so called claims and deeds to Muhammad. This is and has been the same problem with religion for the last 3,000 years, espcially the Abrahamic ones. They base a belief around believers being saved and non-believers being damed backed up by commands to justify violent acts.
Thankfully many people today are not literal believers and again religion is not the only aspect to this terrorism, but its the main aspect that plays on the fear of people. Which allows people to value and wish for death over life.
This was good to see today, but the reality is this. Its not that difficult to forma very violent and extreme form of islam from their doctrines. More Muslims like this are needed not only to counter the hate but to show islam how they follow peacefully
