We now live in a cashless society.
It would have been unthinkable 10, even 5 years ago, but thanks to plastic, apps and covid....we really do live in a cashless society.
I have not had money in my purse for 18 months....even the window cleaner gets paid via phone banking.
When is the last time you paid cash for anything?

Always. To be honest, I may go a week or two with out spending it, but I carry it.

I put my last spare change in a museum contribution box 3 weeks ago. I don’t even take my wallet anymore, it’s all done by phone. So amazingly convenient

I go inside my bank and make deposits too. I'm always the only person in there doing that.

To be honest, I never thought I could be comfortable going out without actual money on me.
I was always one of those people who preferred to pay with cash rather yjan credit or debit cards, and I always had to have more than I knew I would spend...sort of like a safety blanket.
But now...I don't miss it one little bit.....I would hate to go back to handling all that germ laden money anyway.

I still don't have a mobile phone Eilzel, I will have to force myself soon.
I imagine even credit and debit cards will be phased out soon.

Seriously?

I cannot even imagine the effort in life if I didn’t have a calculator, google, Facebook, family chats groups, friends in a dozen countries, YouTube videos, the news, all my photos, my bank cards, a note book, a mirror and the time immediately at my finger tips

But I have all that Eilzel, on a laptop a tablet and a landline....but when I am out, I really prefer to interact with the real world rather than an interactive one.
Sadly, more and more I am thinking I need a mobile now though, this modern world is getting hard without one.

Sorta. It's the same girls that work the drove through, which stays pretty busy.
But banks are pushing us towards teller less banking.
And the taxman sure doesn't like cash and they are moving towards tracking all transactions.
Sieg fucking heil.

I appreciate that, and some people are way too addicted. For me, the convenience of being able to read or play game when waiting for someone or on public transport is great though. And being able to message people in Thailand wherever I am is super valuable to me.
I also love taking photos of interesting things/places wherever I am, which is useful too.
It is vital nowadays, especially in certain jobs. And yeah, she the cashless (and ticketless) aspect is a whole other advantage.

Re: We now live in a cashless society.
I suppose having one tiny device instead of many, landline, camera, laptop, and so on...one you can have with you all the time, is a lot more convenient.
I have lasted a long time without one, I fear I will have to succumb soon though.

Yup. I have a PC at the office, but my phone is all I have at the house.

It's not fixed, I can walk around with it, just charge it up when I am done using.
And one thing is, it's a damn site clearer than some of the incredibly expensive mobile phones people use. My daughter in laws mega ££££ phone sounds like she has her head in a bucket when she rings.

That takes me back.
When we were growing up and houses had coal fires, if the chimney wasn't swept often enough we would get a sootfall....it took hours to clean up.

We have a wood burning stove. It still has to be swept.

How will MP’s pay for sex without cash? And big time drug dealers?

Both, in drugs. One missive from Representative Gaetz asked his cohort about an under-aged girl: does she want money, or will drugs do?

How you going to buy drugs without cash? Last time I looked, drug dealers didn’t carry card machines.

Yeah, we won't do away with cash until the rich and powerful can buy prostitutes and drugs with something else that can't be traced.

Apparently, there's a whole sub-culture in it. Years ago, when I practiced criminal law, some bad guys would ask if I would accept trades in lieu of a fee. They meant drugs...but could never openly say so, because they might be wire-tapped by cops.
I would divert the conversation by saying, Sure...I'll take that white Mercedes Benz in your garage. They would drop the suggestion.
But in answer to your question, there's lots of ways to introduce drugs into the commercial stream.

They all have Venmo. I pay people all of the time on that app, and no one really knows what I'm paying them for.

Sure they see the transaction.
But what I say it's for is up to me.
Granted, large transactions would get scrutinized, but sending my daughter 500 bucks for her wedding could have been for weed and no one would have known.
