Compulsary covid jabs for care workers...or face the sack.
First topic message reminder :
Good, and it's about time.
"Covid vaccinations are to become mandatory for care home staff under plans to be announced by ministers, as they consider extending the move to all NHS staff.
The controversial measure sets up a likely battle with staff in both services and could lead to the government being sued under European human rights law or equalities legislation for breaching the freedom of people who work in caring roles to decide what they put into their bodies.
The Guardian understands that ministers will confirm they are pushing ahead with compulsory vaccination for most of the 1.5 million people working in social care in England, despite employer and staff organisations in the sector warning that it could backfire if workers quit rather than get immunised. Under the plans those working with adults will have 16 weeks to get vaccinated or face losing their jobs.
The government is also keen to make it mandatory for the 1.38 million people who are directly employed by the NHS in England to get vaccinated against Covid-19 and winter flu – proposals that have already been criticised by groups representing doctors, nurses and other staff.

Quill was obviously wrong when he said no one who has been vaccinated could get ill with Covid, they can and they do.
But Tommy, you have littered this thread with numerous false reports...so going on about Quills one error is not detracting from your many.

It's not an error...it's just switched to an 'overwhelming' truth. Tom's issue has to do with semantics...that is, he takes exception to my use of "no one" when obviously there are "breakthrough infections". The CDC says this:
CDC wrote:...no vaccines are 100% effective at preventing illness. Some fully vaccinated people will get sick, and some will even be hospitalized or die from COVID-19. However, there is evidence that vaccination may make illness less severe for those who are vaccinated and still get sick. The risk of infection, hospitalization, and death are all much lower in vaccinated compared to unvaccinated people.
https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/covid-19/health-departments/breakthrough-cases.html
To reduce the discussion to semantical issues is petty, and not worthy of anyone's time. More to the point, what is Tom abandoning, if not forthrightly admitting, when he reduces the issue to semantics? Is he not admitting our point - that vaccines are effective, even though not perfect? Even his pivotal article emphasizes this.
The take home lesson is: don't lose your main point, and chase rabbits down rabbit holes. Tom, in his search for bits and pieces of factoids that support his thesis, wants to go into semantical rabbit holes because he has precious little else to defend.

I agree with Quill, you search the internet to find one link that supports your own misguided view, then you totally dismiss the realms of proven data that are coming from the NHS, WHO, ONS, BMA, and other respected bodies.

Re: Compulsary covid jabs for care workers...or face the sack.
No I'm not doing any of that.
I've merely said the truth that vaccinated people can still get covid, can still get seriously ill from covid, can still die, and can still be contagious to others.
And I have reiterated some figures I made on another thread about the total of UK population who have now likely already had covid.

A care home manager who oversees five care homes in Manchester was talking on the radio this morning.
His homes had 45 deaths pre vaccination. 42 residents and 3 carers.
After the vaccination programme was introduced he has had only one death.
There are a number of workers in his care homes who have refused the jab...they will be dismissed.
Even though there is a nationwide shortage of care home workers, this man was all in favour of the mandatory jabs for workers.
Why....because they work, as the figures he quoted prove.

And when have I ever argued against vaccinating the old and vulnerable?

And vaccinating the people looking after them is as vital as vaccinating the old and vulnerable.
Luckily the government are doing something about it.

Re: Compulsary covid jabs for care workers...or face the sack.
President Biden is to announce in a press conference to be held this evening (EST), that all US federal employees, and/or employees of any federal contractor, be it direct or remote, must undergo vaccination or lose their job. Additionally, all health care workers must be vaccinated.
The only exceptions will be for personal medical or religious reasons, and those will face strict scrutiny.
It is anticipated that this will require approximately 100-million employees in the US, and overseas, to undergo vaccination. It's a good start.

Another government roundabout turn, and one they will probably have to backtrack on sooner or later, when the damage is done.
Manchester is holding their Parklife festival. They do require Covid status on entry. More than 80.000 will attend, and according to the management it hasn't caused any upheaval, and people are happy to comply.
The way they have handled the event will be a lot more sensible than many upcoming events will be handled now the government has backtracked...again.
"Parklife Festival will ask all ticket holders to demonstrate their COVID-19 status via the NHS COVID Pass upon arrival at the festival gates before entering, by providing ONE of the following:
– Proof of a negative Lateral Flow Test before your arrival at the festival gates uploaded to the NHS app. Lateral Flow Tests will NOT be available at the festival. Please order these well in advance: << Please order your Lateral Flow Tests well in advance here >>
– Proof of being vaccinated with both doses (with the second dose being received at least 14 days before the festival).
– Proof of natural immunity following a positive PCR test (providing it has been at least 10 days since your PCR test and up to 180 days after taking the test) "

OSHA is considering a policy of mandating all employers of over 100-people, to require vaccinations of their employees...or fire them. The rationale is that unvaccinated people constitute a work hazard, making the workplace unsafe. They are shaping the policy as we speak.
OSHA is the US DEPARTMENT OF LABOR. Occupational Safety & Health Administration. It is responsible for health and safety standards, and enforcement, of workplaces throughout the country.
