There are a few on here that can remember a less than privileged upbringing even in privileged Britain, life was tough for so many people.
They weren't politically oppressed but still didn't have much say in their own lives. As I keep saying all the countries that are democratic and reasonably comfortable for their inhabitants have had to work at it for generations to get it to how it is now, they didn't come down from the skies fully formed in a shower of stars. My own parents remembered the last of what were workhouses, a great aunt of mine was actually born in what was called the 'Pontypridd Union Workhouse'. So although we shouldn't forget that we are very lucky to be born in stable countries, I wouldn't call it privileged, that smacks of having it handed to you for nothing and being undeserving, lives were lost and lives and families ruined to get where we are, we have to remember that and appreciate what has been achieved by that and strive to build on what they have passed on to us and pass on the ideas to others in their countries.

I grew up in poverty too... my mum was a single parent after she left my dad and divorced him... she had to work to keep a roof over our head and food on the table... we had fuk all...

She was born just after the war finished, so grew up with fuk all herself growing up... and she worked as soon as she could... had to...

My grandparents and great grandparents lived through WW2 and WW1... they had fuk all too!!!


So I don't know where les and others here get their bullshit attitude from when they try to portray me as some privileged rich snobby old white bloke who doesn't have a clue about what it's like to have nothing!!!???

Okay I apologise for saying you thought they deserved to die. But I will say this: you seemed to be making it all about the fact they had money which came across as rather cold and uncaring.

Nobody seems to be talking about the new development where they're not Chinese but probably Vietnamese, and the police are saying, well, they probably went through China to get fake passports, but I think they just can't tell Vietnamese people from Chinese people

One Vietnamese family living in England apparently took out a second mortgage on their home to finance their 26-year-old daughter's journey. Her final texts to her mother before she died were heartbreaking:

"So sorry mum and dad. The route to abroad didn't succeed. Mum. I love you and dad so much. I am dying because I can't breathe. I am from Can Loc Ha Tinh. Vietnam. Mum. I'm very sorry."

Apparently it's very important to the Vietnamese to be buried where they were born.

The two "Vietnamese" people that I know best are ethnic Chinese. When Saigon fell it was the Chinese living in Vietnam that felt some of the harshest abuse as they were considered capitalist outsiders.

I think a lot of folks illegally immigrate like these folks. The actual immigrants are poor, but family members in the new country have done very well and pay to have them smuggled in, when legal means won't work.
