Father's bid to keep British citizenship for son who went to Syria to join ISIS is thrown out by High Court judge
The father of a British-born man who travelled to Syria to join Islamic State has lost a fight to keep his son's UK citizenship - after he was stripped of it by former Home Secretary Amber Rudd. Ashraf Mahmud Islam travelled to the middle-eastern country aged just 18 in April 2015 while he was studying A-level law at a British educational establishment in Dhaka, Bangladesh. As a result he was stripped of his citizenship by Amber Rudd in 2017, who said she did not believe that depriving him of his British nationality would make him 'stateless', as he also has Bangladeshi citizenship.
In the first case of its kind to reach the High Court, the IS recruit's father Abdullah Islam challenged the steps taken by Ms Rudd to revoke his son's citizenship.
He wants his son, who is now 22-years-old and being held in a Kurdish-run military prison in Syria, brought back to the UK to face justice and to be protected from facing the death penalty.
Today, however, his case was rejected as having 'no merit' by a judge.
Mr Justice Pepperall said: 'Ashraf is in detention in Syria and at risk of trial in the Middle East and the possible imposition of the death penalty entirely because of his own actions in travelling to Syria and engaging in jihad.
'The only action taken by the home secretary in this case has been to deprive Ashraf of his citizenship.
'He is not in peril in Syria because of that decision, but because he is being held on suspicion of involvement in the IS insurgency.'

No one forced the idiot son to go to such a controversial destination.
He knew what he was doing
And if he didn't, more fool him.
You pays yer money you takes yer choice.

He's got no right to come here. He decided to go, he joined this evil band of terrorist, did unspeakable things to people, now his family wants him back? He can rot for all anyone cares.

If we applied the same standard to the white terrorists of our south, we'd empty the place.

The Oz gov't introduced similar legislation a few months ago...
If an Aussie heads off overseas and joins an enemy organisation -- and has dual citizenship at the time -- then the minister can strip him/her of their Oz citizenship..

S'pose they don't go overseas. S'pose they go to an internal group like the white nationalist, with their own white terrorism. Do we apply the same standards?
Or do we have special rules for our own beloved terrorists?
Just curious...

The NSW government has a perfectly good SuperMax prison down near Goulburn where they lock those nasties up -- they have a few homegrown terrorists, along with serial rapists and murderers, in high security wings down there.

Don't be silly. They can't strip someone of their citizenship if that would leave them stateless. Ashraf Islam has Bangladeshi citizenship as well as British, so they can do it. If he had committed a terrorist crime here, he would have been imprisoned here.
I presume there are benefits to dual citizenship, but as some are finding out, there are also downsides.
By the way, you speak of "our own". Perhaps you consider that anyone who is not white cannot be American?

Why? I believe Trump would do that in a heartbeat. Anyone who puts innocent children in cages, won't think twice about leaving someone without country.
This man is not a person of deep thought.

Believe what you like, but this isn't about Trump or the US. Your posts about "children in cages" are becoming very repetitive, and they're off topic. You should stop spamming.

But really, on point. Now, follow the bouncing ball. Our biggest problem in the US is, we have a white terrorist problem. In order to make this issue relevant to US members (it is a US site, after all) I questioned whether stripping their citizenship would provide a remedy for our white terrorist problem.
We already have a terrorist concentration camp in Guantanamo Bay. It exists off-shore so that the US Constitution will not apply. Might we not also strip them of their US citizenship so that if they ever got out, there would be nowhere for them to go. Release them to Cuba, and then it's their problem.

Why should Cuba get them? They're not Cuba's problem. Look, this isn't about the US, and it's not about "white terrorists", it's about people from the UK with dual nationality going to Syria to fight with ISIS. If a white person did that and had dual nationality, they may well be stripped of their British citizenship as well. Don't make this about race.

No reason other than circumstance. Our concentration camp is in Cuba. I certainly wouldn't mind if they were released to Venezuela or Saudi Arabia. The sole purpose is to relieve them of their US citizenship.

But, the topic took this turn. Are you going to argue for censorship, upon every change of word, verb, adjective or adverb? This is a US site, and not only should US law prevail (Freedom of Speech), but US interests should be acknowledged and served.
I have simply taken the principle of the topic, and applied it to a more relevant subject. The only defense that you can mount, it seems, is arbitrary censorship. That doesn't fly in the New World.

Ths topic took this turn because you took it off topic - for your own agenda.
I've tried to explain the situation to you, but you just don't get it. Talk to yourself.

You, me, or anyone else. What difference does it make? Topics often take unusual turns. As I've pointed out many times, sometimes a thread needs a boost or it will die from boredom.
You seem to be enjoying it. You're quite active on this thread today. Your actions seem to belie your message.

I'm sure I cannot fathom why Quill would want to apply the idea of stripping nationality from non dual citizen ship terrorists to those in America, after all, as he callously said after some atrocity here ....it just a police matter.....

What white terrorist. I've heard of no terrorists beheading, bombing and shooting in the South.

Our white terrorists are much more sophisticated and wealthy. No raggedy-assed swords here.
Just fast, smooth Armalite-15's, with jacked-up magazines. Hey...this is America. We've got our pride to think of.
