Muslim man can not circumcise his sons without their permission, High Court judge rules

A devout Muslim has failed to persuade a High Court judge to rule that his sons should be circumcised.

The man, who was born in Algeria but lives in England, argued that circumcision would be in accordance with his "Muslim practice and religious beliefs" - and in the youngsters' best interests.

But the boys' mother, who grew up in Devon and is separated from their father, disagreed.

Mrs Justice Roberts has refused to make a circumcision order after analysing argument at a family court hearing in Exeter, Devon.

She said it was better to defer a decision until the boys - aged six and four - reached a stage where they could make "individual choices".

The man had argued it would be "in the children's best interests to allow them to be circumcised" in accordance with his "Muslim practice and religious beliefs".

His former partner "opposes that course until such time as the children have reached an age where they are competent to give consent to such a procedure", the judge added.

Wow some common sense being applied.

Good to hear. Though the next step should be to ban it completely until boys are old enough to make their own decision.

I agree, as this should be the decision of the individual involved and not that of the parents.

I totally agree with the decison, but nobody seems to mind when Jewish boys are circumcised?

Really?

The same should apply in both faiths, that the individual chooses when they are old enough

Just because the example in this case is a Muslim, the same principle should aplly in any faith

Agreed, and there are other problems with that, in that there is also the practice of the Rabbis sucking it afterwards and the children become infected with STDs.

I did not want to hear that. I was circumcised by a Jew. Hate to think that was my first blow job too.

Because there were no qualified Muslims to do the job in Leeds when I was born. Leeds was very different demographically in the 1970's.

The idea of mutilating one's body to demonstrate devotion to a myth speaks for itself.  But when so-called intelligent adults want to mutilate the bodies of others, without consent, it is, well...criminal assault.

Allowing child circumcision for religious reasons is exactly like allowing sex with 10-year old girls because the fundamental LDS think god wants them to procreate at the earliest possible moment.  Let's call it what it is: the one is statutory rape/paedophilia; the other is aggravated assault/causing permanent bodily injury.  

Religious tolerance ends when it comes to the body of another.  They invented straitjackets to protect deranged people from themselves; why do we let them have at the bodies of others, FCS?

In this day and age where everyone in the western world has access to soap and water there is no need to circumcise any baby boy, unless it's for medical reasons, which I imagine is rare.

It's obcene and should be outlawed for any faith.

Agree.   However, I believe it is done in America for 'hygiene' purposes, at one point over 90% of American males were circumcised.   Have no idea why anyone should think they need to redesign the human body!
