In the most fundamental and purest use of the word, we can break foodstuffs down into plant-based --  fruit + nuts and vege's, grains and oilseeds (oils + margarines..), legumes, fungi, seaweed, phytoplankton, honey, molasses and syrups --  and animal-based sources, i.e. 'meats' --  not only red meat and pork, but also :  poultry, fish, molluscs and crustaceans, reptiles (snakes & crocodiles..), whales and seals, and even zooplankton (i.e. 'krill'..), milk/butter/cheese and eggs..

Genuine "Vegans" (as opposed to vegetarians falsely masquerading as 'vegan' to sound trendy..) will not touch any foodstuffs or products containing or tainted by any animal products, processes or procedures (e.g. honey, many wines and beers, and no animal manures/byproducts used as fertiliser, means that many acceptable to vegetarians are not to "vegans"..).

A leading reason why I don't believe many self-described "Vegans" from the get-go, considering many of them to be little more than pathetic little fakes..

One animal is NEVER supposed to see another animal being slaughtered. There are so many rules one needs to adhere to and not just saying Allah ho Akbar.

It’s a sad world indeed when we cut corners with the lives of these poor animals just so one can fucking fill their stomachs themselves!

The practice of bloodletting was to increase the shelf life of slaughtered animals in the days before refrigerators were invented. 

I'm sure many traditions currently observed in the name of religion were originally 'invented' for very practical reasons.
