Epstein-Barr virus: WHAT MAY BE THE ROOT OF MODERN MEDICAL MYSTERIES
This is a long article and has so much information in it that I'd have to cherry-pick, and it's all rather important information so I'd rather leave the link and a little forward from me:
I got a bad case of glandular fever (the EBV) in 2007 and was ill for quite a few weeks, (as a side note I got the symptoms on the day of my uncle's funeral and couldn't even stand toward the end of the day and left early), I was told by my doctor that the virus can lie dormant for years and that I may get flare-ups of fatigue and generalised achiness and this did, indeed, happen for about two years. I then got diagnosed with Graves' disease which is a chronic form of hyperthyroidism - your thyroid creates too much thyroid hormone. It made me so unwell. I asked all the different specialists if there was a link between glandular fever and my thyroid as it just seemed logical to me as they're both autoimmune diseases. I was told there wasn't enough research and again, I remember asking them how come people's medical histories weren't compared.
No matter. A few years later I developed the symptoms of Ménière's disease - an inner ear problem that causes severe dizziness and tiredness. I thought once again, that this was somehow related to the previous two illnesses, I simply knew it was.
Long story short, you've read this far and so please do read the link as everyone can carry this virus and it can lie dormant but go on to cause MS and fibromyalgia.
Anyone can dismiss this article as rubbish - and they will for their own reasons - but as someone who's had at least three of these attacks on my body, one after the other, it really struck a chord.
Oh and by the way, in each illness (graves and Ménière's) I was subscribed tablets. I took half of the subscribed amount and then nothing well before the doctor's instructions and I started drinking raw vegetable and berry smoothies made at home.
There were certain things I actually craved - berries, apricots, Brussels and sweet potatoes - and I've just seen that in this article, those are just a few of the foods on their list of foods to help if you have EBV.
I hope it helps someone else understand and I am not advising self-medication btw, but please do always remember that food is always important
