Seriously, what are we teaching to children here?
It was a medival theme. Could she not have explained this to the child and actually teach the child some history here? Could she not have explained it was just a model?
Seriously, some parents really are turning their children into "wet wipes"

It was plastic..
How is it horrible to explain the reality of history in medival times to a child, that people did hunt as a normality then?
What is she really teaching the child here?

What has Santa Cluas, aka, Saint Nicholas, have to do with a pagan festival?
Do you understand the Winter festival and how the Christmas tree and presents originated from this and then Christianity hijacked this?
Hunting would have been very much a part of such festivals

Interesting point, as where do Elves figure in the bible?
Again its odd that it will come from the orginal pagan sources and folklores
Another example of modern and Christian plagerism

I'm not interested in your hectoring tone, and your attempt to drag religion into it. I'm pretty sure that Christmas is not supposed to be about hunting for trophies. I find it all a bit much anyway.

Oh dear
Lets give you some historical facts shall we.
25th Decemeber is not even the birth day of Jesus, based on the Gospels
Its the Birthday and pagan festival of Mithra
The Christians adpated this festival under the Emperor Constantine, in order to make Christianity more appealling to those who already believed in Mirthra.
Now that is just where we get the date.
Things like the Christmas tree and presents are plagerized from were Germanic people, which included Celts/Saxons/Jutes/Angles. During pagan times and the festival of the winter soltace. They would decorate their homes with Evergreen Fir Trees. Based on the principle, it made them think of the spring to come.
They would also offer gifts around this, generally offerings from hunts. Hence how we have today the concept of the Christmas tree and presents. The reality is they are aspects that have naff all to do with Christianity, but pagan traditions.
Does that help?

I told you - I'm not interested in your hatred of Christians and Christianity. This thread is nothing to do with Christianity, so save your hatred for another thread. It's about the stupidity of the fuss about Christmas generally IMO. If we must have Christmas, it should be about little elves, singing toys, tinsel, and awful Christmas music, and it shouldn't include items which look like hunting trophies.

First point of call
How exactly am I being hateful to Christianity, by being factual on history?
Second point of call
We now celebrate Christmas (hardly religiously), which is based on Christianity, even though it has plagerized these original pagan traditions.
Third point of call
This representation, was an adaption of Christianity in the Middle Ages, where Reindeer were in the Uk and hunted, before the concept of some dodgy old bloke in a white beard wanting children to sit on his lap, called santa claus.
Fourth point of call
Its not down to you to dictate what Christmas should be. Being as its a hybred of many traditions. You do not get to decide how it should be. I would rather people celebrated a winter festival, how it was. A time looking forward to spring. As lets face it, people are so utterly unhappy when it comes to Jan 2nd.
Do you know why that is?

So you can have your opinion about Christmas but I can't have mine. Typical Didge - sitting there lecturing others and then telling everyone how they feel. Who says everyone is unhappy when it comes to Jan 2nd? Anyway, 25th December is too far away from Spring.

Can you show me where I did?
Many people are unhappy come the 2nd January, which is odd, when there is 12 days of Christmas.
That is your first clue

Is that what you are claiming?
I know Gelico and Nems are Christians and love them to bits.
How do you explain that?
You made many errors in this thread, which I only corrected, which you seem to take offense at.

You had no clue, that we had reindeers in this country

That one's easy. Every time you have an opportunity to slag off Christians and Christianity, you take it, even in a thread about a deer's head.

So what if Christian festivals have surplanted/overlaid Pagan festivals, it worked pretty well to change pagans into Christians, what better way to do it, unless you are a Jehovah's Witness, its probably happened previously to other religions over and over since time began. No doubt people didn't want to loose their festivals where they could have some fun and eat a lot between the hard work of planting, gathering, harvesting and storing.

Sorry, let me get this straight.
You claimed it worked very well turning pagans into Christians?
Was that by force?
Shall we talk about the forced conversion of Jews and the murder of them under Christianity?
How about how many Vikings in this country were slaughtered for their pagan beliefs?
How about women, burned at the stake, simple for believing in fortune telling and being classed as witches?
Do you really need me to continue how poorly contrived the above was?
Now let me change your words slightly and see if you agree

No doubt people didn't want to loose their festivals where they could have some fun and eat a lot between the hard work of planting, gathering, harvesting and storing.
Come on Vintage, we both know that view was poor. I respect you better than that
The reality here. I do not care what people celebrate, when it does not effecte the well being and equality of others and neither should you, but please do not tell me what harm did it do. As tell that to the victims of the Holocaust, the Inquisition, the Crusades ect

Well, you would be mainly speaking of the actions of the Roman Church - which due to being mainly formulated in the Roman version of how things should work, was indeed violent, misogynistic, tunnel visioned in many ways and centrally orientated. The 'Celtic' version was a bit more laid back and appeared earlier in Britain than the Roman version. They had women on equal footing in leading mixed religious houses and there were some very educated abbesses until the Roman version was universally accepted. Any religion who cares about the people and their real spiritual well being should not to be too ideologically rigid about the peripheral things and should be more fluid in its attitude, not enforcing dress, gender and rites so much as a understanding people and their behaviour. If there is a god he/she/it is surely going to be above things like covering your hair, or wearing a biker jacket to a service, I would think he/she/it should be more worried about what is in hearts and minds.

Which means they were following the Pauline version of Christianity, which is what many thousand denomiations of Christianity follow today. It did not stop with with the Roman Catholic Church. It was at the fore front of Prodestant and Lutheran teaching. Which we saw enable the worst forms of racism, that we see today. The later that formed the first racial foundations of antisemitism. So no it is not mainly the actions of the Catholic Church
I mean do I really need to go into the foundations of how slavery was backed up by Christians and Christin beliefs at the time?
Celtic Christianity that had more equality for women, was not based on Christianity, but actually how Celtic women had always been treated within society. As equals. That they could own homes, become rulers. It was catholicism, that changed all that.
You then say that any religion should not be so rigid the peripheral things. No, they should have naff all say in how people live their lives, because these views they have are formed from fairy tales and not form reason. It was secularism, enlightenment and equality that changed the world, through reason and for the better.
I have no issue with your last points, but why even believe in the first place. When in reality what would you have to believe in?
