Australia foils Islamist 'terror plot' to bring down airplane
First topic message reminder :
Australia has foiled an Islamist-inspired "terrorist plot" to bring down an airplane with an improvised explosive, authorities said Sunday, after four people were arrested in raids across Sydney. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said the plot appeared to be "elaborate" rather than planned by a lone wolf, as security was beefed up at major domestic and international airports across the nation.
"I can report last night that there has been a major joint counter-terrorism operation to disrupt a terrorist plot to bring down an airplane," Mr Turnbull told reporters.

You can't be a "real Cockney" unless your born within the sound of "Bow Bells"
That would be 'St Mary-le-Bow Church' on Cheapside of course... just by Cannon Street stn and St Pauls Cathedral...!

I was born in Hackney. I'm a proper Londoner, and Quill you're quite right about London being a beautiful melting pot of culture, it's a wonderful mentality. I was born and grew up there and you carry that London mentality forever.
I was born and bred in London and have lived here all my life...!
My parents and grandparents too...!
My Nan was born in earshot of 'Bow Bells'... her mother (my great grandmother) was from The Mews near Buck Palace... and her father (my great grandfather) was local to there too and was a WW1 veteran who survived being blown up at The Somme...!

Earl's Court Station is nowhere near the financial district. I made it clear the pub was not the one in the financial district:

Why are you even entertaining his stupidity here Quill?
You do realize Tommy thinks he needs a passport to travel outside London?

Well, I just got back and was checking in. I saw his post and just responded.
Oh well, I even went back and found my conversation with Raggs where I said it wasn't the financial district. I had found a great hotel in Harrington Gardens where I stayed, so that was my neighborhood at the time.
I think tommy just didn't read very carefully.

Ahhh...two different conversations that you (and tommy) have put together. Simpson's was was on Cornhill, in the financial district. The place I was recalling with my daughter was just off Harrington Gardens. Entirely different experiences.

As I said, he is not even interested in debating Quill, but looking to score cheap points on posters.
It just proves his failings in debating, that this is all he can resort to doing.
I used to work up the road from Earl's Court, at the Broadway Shopping Center in Hammersmith years ago. I was a Contract Manager there. Not sure if they are still there, but Coca Cola and Walt Disney offices were within the complex when I was there. It was very busy at the time, with the third biggest footfall of shopping Centers per week in London. It had around a million people passing through per week then.

Okay, but the link was the source of tommy's confusion, as he made clear in the post above yours.
My two posts were on different nights (the latest last night), and they are two entirely different recollections. Hence, two different experiences (pubs), where I recall Londoners....well, my thought was, I wish Americans of different races could fraternize so well.
Actually, truth be told, I remember another time when I had that thought. It was on the HMS Belfast, on the deck where a group of us was having a beer.

Which is very near London Bridge, very close to the hub of the financial sector of the City of London..A stones throw away basically.
So your original point is bang on the money to being in the financial sector of London. To me you may have simple gotten confused over the areas you have visited in London by getting them mixed up. Which is no surprise if you do not live there and have only visited mate. An easy mistake to make when you do not frequent an area Quill. Hence I would not worry at his idiocy here.
So you thus would have seen people mixing, as you stated earlier.
As I say, Tommy because of his failings can only try to make cheap points, as he lacks the ability to debate.
I am originally from South London myself Quill.

Yes, I know...tommy was trying to play gotcha! I don't mind. Raggs made the same mistake, so I guess it was a confusion I created.
But they really are two different pubs, and two different occasions. It's a recurrent thought with me, because I like Londoners and it's fun to see how they get along.

I would not worry mate. Tommy has the intellect of a toddler at times.
He poorly tried to jump on you here, because he is from London and failing to see you have only been a visitor and thus can easily get place names mixed up. He had no interest in listening to your experiences, but only to score cheap points.

I have to admit, a part of the confusion was mine. One night I was talking about recalling a pub on Cornhill, the next night, the place over by Harrington Gardens. He just combined the two, and came up with a basis to say I was prevaricating.
It happens.

You don't even know where Earl's Court is. It's obvious, you don't know your way around London.
And Syl... I am not in Canada... I am at home in southeast London... posting through a proxy server, so location shown could be anywhere!
I always thought that Tommy was sending his posts into Newsfix by yelling into a tin can on a string, while hiding under a rock down the back of Deano's Flopcave; living the life of a mushroom...

We must be doing alright in the UK. Many Muslims come here and they all seem happy to stay.
I keep saying this too: I grew up in London in the 80's - it was so mixed and everyone lived happily among eachother. Interracial relationships were very common.
So I'm not really too sure why anyone is under the impression that England is backward in accepting foreigners?
Remove those half dozen noisy, whinging, whining xenophobic Floptard anti-immigration zealots from these discussions on NewsFix...
Then you may find that it doesn't seem anywhere near as bigotted..
Giving Stormee the boot last year was a good start...
But your own bigotry is ok?

I've been both a Londoner and a New Yorker. When I think of New Yorkers, I have to admit a lot of people I intend, actually go home to New Jersey or Connecticut.
You must be very mentally flexible Quill.
I am a Mancunian and no matter where I am that's what I always will be.
Exactly. I live in Liverpool, but that doesn't make me a scouser.

And how could you tell they were Muslim...!?
Still waiting for Quill to answer...
He won't, he is still trying to generalise from specifics!

In Australia it doesn't matter where you're born
doesn't matter if it's Iran, Somalia or some British backwater
become a citizen, love being here, you're Aussie

Ahhh thanks...I did wonder.
I don't understand proxies though, in fact that map confuses me greatly.
I never show up even as a guest.
edit....just checked, I am there now.
