First topic message reminder :
Separating people up into catagories marked extreme left and extreme right is odd to say the least.
I prefer to judge a person on other things.....not put them in little boxes marked left or right.
HoratioTarr wrote:Syl wrote:It's pretty obvious that certain people who post here are ' playing to the crowd'...it's pretty pathetic really.
What gets my goat is when people keep trying to make it all about a political statement...as though by doing so it shows some kind of superior intellect or learning? All is shows is that you're basically an unimaginative arse.

So you agree to constantly label wolf a troll is pointless.
Some people want to be identified as Jewish or Black. Its who they are, though I think its the wrong way to go about things and that racial labels enable racism itself. As it provides the very bedrock for racial differences, when none exist biologically. So I get the point of the thread very well. When you comment on people in the news you and others also often label them. That is not different at all, only that they are not here to defend themselves.
I will call out the forum troll when he trolls.
If he doesn't troll I won't.....in fact I ignore his trolling 99% of the time.
You seem to bring him up a lot more than I ever have.
If someone wants to be identified as Jewish or black that's fine. I think most people would prefer to be
known by the quality of of their posts though than their colour or religion.
And so the cycle continues.
That is what you fail to grasp. I reached out to you and had no need to and have done the same to horatio and look what can be accomplished by doing so. Barriers are broken down between people and then civil debate can ensue. Wolf at times is rude and abusive to me, but I know he really does not mean it, the same with Quill. I know he does not mean it and they know the same of me. All I see is how some again think they are holier than thou.
We really need to do away with racial labels, they are nothing more than a social construct and have allowed racism to continue.

I dont dislike anyone. I may get annoyed sometimes, and have even gotten annoyed with someone i respect recently. But this passes and I move on because even at times I can be wrong and myself act childishly though in this instance i was not. We are all people on a forum who do not really know each other in the real world. So there is no reason to continue to dislike someone. Only the person themselves can continue this themselves. It serves no purpose what so ever.
So by disliking someone you are automatically then discounting there point when it could be very valid, as confirmation bias comes into play.
how long have you been on forums? And how many? Genuine question.
Quite a few and was debating back when on the sky forum when many of us all first met.

Wolf and I met over 10-years ago on Female First (FF), a British site situated in Ashton-in-Makerfield. A group of us transferred to ADO, then to Vic's SF, and around to here. We were never a part of the Sky group. In addition to Wolf and me, we had a Chinese woman in Hong Kong, and a black British woman in London (Mogs lives in London, doesn't she, Bee?).

Re: labels and opinions
Well, for internet longevity (and probably also in years) I can top you all.
I apparently achieved the distinction of posting twenty pages (!) of vile abuse about Liverpool supporters killed in the Hillsborough disaster - "at the time."
I always thought that the allegation, which is still being made to anyone who'll listen elsewhere, was quite a compliment - in a technological sense, of course - because the Hillborough disaster occurred in in 1989... when Tim Berners Lee was still trying to make the internet work.
I also managed to complete my magnus opus, apparently, on an Amstrad word processor equipped with a highly technologically advanced, er, floppy disc and a daisy wheel.
It might have been more effective if the thing had been connected to a telephone, of course.....
Ps: Anyone remember the old UK county and regional forums run by eBay?

It's hard to believe that I stumbled across the sky forum in 2007!
Those were the days lol, some right old bun fights.
It was a shame it went really but it was too costly to attempt moderation.
The problem with forums like this is always going to be lack of numbers, fewer posters means some people get to run riot and spoil it for others due to having nothing else to do than post endlessly.

How else would you judge Hitler or Stalin then?
The Communists or the Nazi's?
Its because of extreme political views that we have seen some of the worst horrors in history and so much so because of their extreme left and right wing beliefs. Now many people have views that fall into both left and right wing political beliefs. The more people share beliefs within both camps just from center, the more chances you have of a stable society. Which they are not really an issue. Most people are judged on who they are and their characters, but some are infinitely defined by their extreme political beliefs. There is certainly an issue with extreme beliefs. As the more left and right people are the more authoritarian their views are which are dangerous. As they generally impose their extreme political beliefs onto others.
So maybe you can tell me how else you want to judge Hitler and Stalin, as very interested to hear?

Bingo. We've been discussing this on another thread.
Nazism is not socialism; it was pure nationalism in dictator form. Communism has only once existed on this earth...it was tried out partially in France in the 1870's, with the Paris Commune. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_Commune Marx was Hegelian--almost a metaphysical concept--and Marxism has never been tried.
All of them--Germany, Soviet Union and China--have been nothing more than petty dictatorships.

Haha...the name has almost nothing to do with it. It's one of the UK's largest social Internet sites.
Actually, it started as a lingerie business in Aston-in-Makerfield, and it's owner, Stephen Rea, started a website as a promotion. http://www.femalefirst.co.uk/ see also, http://discussion.femalefirst.co.uk/ The name, I presume, was supposed to draw attention to women's things, and maybe a bit of the feminist woman on top theme.
The website took off, and now it is the bigger business.
(Perhaps Wolf knows more. I only researched it to identify a NYC attorney that I wanted disbarred.)

Re: Mogs...
Mogs was from London, but last I heard was living a few hours out of the city..
As for 'Plucky Gold' :
I believe she was Chinese ethnicity, but born in Malaysia, while her hubby was a Hong Kong native.
***********************************
As for that 'Female First' forum, I first heard about it when I was looking in on a US-based forum, where one of its members recommended the political and social issues threads on FF, and suggested people should check out some of their robust discussions..
There were probably just as many males as females on there, back when.
As some members would say over there : "The name is Female First, not 'Females Only' !"

I have heard the name 'Female first' mentioned on quite a few different forums.....if a newbie is asked how they heard on the present forum they post on they often say they heard it on FF.
Quill...did you ever hear of an American forum called the 'Dallas digest'? I was a member there for a few years...some lovely people posted, I didn't often agree with their political views but basically they were mostly really nice folk.
It was run by a local radio presenter called Kevin McCarthy.

Within the past hour DD finally, it was way too soon for my liking, pulled the plug. I am hoping this venue will be the new "fence" we can talk over with one another and enjoy as much as we enjoyed (The BIG 570 & Dallas Digest) for so many years. and as my friend Bubba would say "Carry On", and thats just what I will do.

Texas is full of websites, mostly arch-conservative befitting the ideology of the south. But there is such a thing as southern hospitality. I always think of them saying: Y'all are welcome back, heah? Haha...but they are sticking the knife in your back when they are saying it.
I have some family members who are quite conservative, and I learn of these websites from my siblings.

Stephen is basically a business conservative. He tolerates a lot, but when he bans it's for 6-months, etc.
Around 2010 it began to be quite cliquish. First, there was a subgroup called Refuge, which was formed to stick their noses in the air over all the 'foreigners' that were joining. Then there was Ministry, started by a British Army colonel in response.
Ministry broke off and formed an independent site. Wolf was a mod, as were Plucky and Mogadishu...I was invited along. I went because FF members were getting into hacking (that's why I wanted that attorney disbarred).
From Ministry we found Sphinx's ADO, and the rest is history.

Consider the 'Y' axis of the "Political Compass" approach to looking at Political Spectrum, with "Authoritarianism/Totalitarianism" at the top, and "Liberal/Libertarian" at the bottom, and you two can be back on the same page with this discussion..
http://factmyth.com/the-left-right-political-spectrum-explained/
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_compass
(Rather than the perverted loony toon alt.right/Craig Buddie/Ayn Rand/Tommy Monk linear models that attempt to proscribe Nazism as "left wing" and extreme right wing ideologies as "liberal" and "non-authoritarian" !!!).
