Upside-down American flag: opinions please.
So. Edds and I were talking about the upside-down American flag on the site banner just now, and she suggested that some members, particularly ones from Britain and Australia, might find it slightly exclusive -- as though this site was mainly about America.
I responded, the upside-down American flag historically represented a time when America is under duress -- which it is now, and which is really all I meant to suggest.
So, we agreed to leave it up to our members, without whom we would be nothing. What do you think of the upside-down American flag, and should we take it off?
Mind you, I might not be persuaded no matter what any person not from America thinks, because it is not your country, is it?

Might I add, I don’t really truly care either way what’s at the top but I think a world map would be nice, but after hearing the rather passionate argument from Ben, I do understand where he’s coming from at the moment.
So, this is just a thread for suggestions and thoughts, cos at the end of the day, it’s Ben’s site.
And he’s stubborn, sometimes
And drinks tequila.
And eats tacos.
You get the picture.

You could change it to the new USA flag
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the Universal Stumbling of America, and to the Dictatorship for which it stands, one Nation under Trump, divisible, without liberty and justice for none."
And while we're at it can we correct the world map

Yes the world map we have at the moment is incorrect, right?

Any map on a flat sheet is incorrect since it's impossible to get the size AND shape right. The Merkator Projection (the most common map) keeps the shapes consistent but Greenland is ridiculously bigger than it should be, and Africa notably smaller.
There is also the political view that Europe and America benefit from look disproportionally larger than the southern hemisphere countries.
Which way is top and bottom is technically irrelevant, the universe doesn't have a top or a bottom so neither does the planet really.
It's just what we're used to, and I think there is a political psychology involved where those countries on top are concerned.
Some ancient Islamic and Greek maps have Africa top and Europe bottom though, which I find fascinating. But if their influence had stuck that would look normal. It isn't correct or incorrect either way.

Oh, on OP, I much preferred the old newspaper image. Much more welcoming and 'homely' feeling

I don't mind the up-side-down US flag; under the circumstances, it's appropriate. However, might I suggest that other flags be included. For example, we have many, many British members, and the Union Jack deserves attention.
I would also suggest the California state flag be flown, as Californians don't want to be associated with the rest of the US.
