Something to ask members. Opinions please guys
Topics or threads about other posters aren't allowed, but I'd like to ask members here if they find fun threads about members ok?
We have two posters, Blackie and major, who like to make fun threads - I like fun threads - it's nice to not always have to be so serious.
I don't like to come down too heavy as I find it a drag.
So my question is; can we allow fun threads about other posters? If they get nasty or they even hint at nasty, then action will be taken.
What do others think?

A drive everyone nutty eventually Vic, you've known me a long time
What do you think? I don't want to make this such a serious forum. Fun threads are great as long as they stay fun.
Trial period?

I realise you are not joking, if only you were. The dirrohea of inane thoughts that dribble from Blackie's head and land up on here, like bird droppings, cannot be classed as threads. They are turning this forum into a playschool for adults with learning difficulties. One or two ok, IN THE RIGHT SECTION, which is something Blackie deliberately avoids. Sorry Edds, it won't just be Vic you drive mad.

One or two threads - that's a fair comment sassy and yes, the right sections absolutely!
How about a section called "Inane chit chat"? All threads could be posted there?

I take your point.
I'll wait for a few more comments but I think Inane Chit Chat may be the way to go!

Yes slapped legs Eddie you must ask our leader!
After all a decision of such magnitude and importance as a new subsection on a chat forum is a decision that cannot be made by anyone other than the highest authority we have.

Hi Sassy, eddie, tommy & others.
Funny you should say this, sassy, but in fact Ben has already specifically made a thread covering this issue. He said threads about other people are allowed provided they are FRIENDLY. They must be friendly in nature. He won't entertain owt else.
That seems quite reasonable and logical blueprint for the smooth-running of a board. Why modify the guidelines that he has laid down, in his usual pragmatic and sensible way?

I think this place needs to stick to its guns and what it was created for. Most forums have their own 'style' and 'ethic' and this is place is primarily for news and debate related to that. Why would anyone want to start a thread about a poster anyway?

If it's kept in its own section, what's the harm? There are plenty of threads that bore me, I just don't click on them.
I don't see the harm. If they're all in one section then it's easy to avoid a section.

And I'm sorry but please explain why a scrolling whatjamaflip on the side of a forum had to do with anything really?
Tommy might have a point: perhaps a limit to the threads, or just one thread that he can start new conversations in?

If it gets too much then we can moderate.
Can you see it's very hard to tell people what they're allowed to post about? Some of his topics have been replied to...and hold some serious replies....
Didn't mean to come across as shirty. It's just the way I speak.

Exactly. This happens a lot in some forums and hopefully this vile habit will not be imported here.HoratioTarr wrote:

A lot of nastiness, mockery and harassment can be cleverly disguised as "innocent fun."
The members who I find funny are the effortlessly funny/witty ones.
Not the "look-at-me, look at all the ''funny'' threads I am making" ones
Re the proposals in the OP, I feel friends can tease each other in threads but it must be strictly by mutual consent. And personally I will NOT be consenting to f*ck-all.

I admire and respect mods cos I know their ''job'' is not easy. Trying to be fair to everyone and trying to keep the board busy, and attractive to current members and those thinking of joining. A very fine balancing act.
You asked for opinions, eddie so here is mine. I sincerely hope this board keeps its news based format, and does not sell out. It is rapidly morphing into a grim, unfunny juvenile shit-pit.

As Jules said, I've already stated my position -- friendly threads about other posters, in the appropriate section, are fine by me.
I would love Blacks to come to the realization that just because a thought crossed his mind, he doesn't have to make a new topic about it

Bad idea. If you legislate for one person, you have a bill of attainder, or bill of pains and penalties. You are making rules for that person only, and that violates equality under the law.
And if the purpose of a rule, meant generally, is one person's behavior, then you are legislating for the lowest common denominator.
Incidentally, just because someone's got a quirky personality is no reason to complain. That's just conformity for conformity sake...it's no different from the Salem witch hunt.

Not at all... if someone is posting so many 'spam' type threads then this could be a sensible preventative restriction imposed by admin...
Of course it would also apply to everyone else, if they also started posting excessive 'spam' threads then the same restriction could then be imposed on them too!
