Bloody hellfire, I think you got a bit carried away there, eds. And you also say you personally witnessed many people taking it,  .... this means that maybe you move (or moved) in the wrong circles! I worked very closely among numerous medical professionals and none of them took cocaine as far as I know.

Sensible intelligent folk know what a toxic, evil drug cocaine is, so I doubt they would touch it with a bargepole. Let's try to avoid the sort of language that makes use of cocaine look normal or routine.

Cocaine/Coke is not an opiate. Opiates are essentially sedatives ie the total opposite.
Cocaine is a strong stimulant, stronger than speed/amphetamine.


The practice of calling most  prohibited drugs 'narcotics' is also wrong.  'Narcotic' means it induces sleep. Some drug called narcotics are actually the opposite.


Govt authorities lead the way in using misleading labels. Perhaps everyone (govt's, their advisers and the general public) should adopt the simple route and simply classify drugs according to how dangerous they are ... ie Class A or B  or C drugs. And leave chemical classification to real chemists, scientists and allied professions.

12.8 mg is the max you can buy over the counter.

Daraprim isn't specifically a drug for AIDS, it's an antiparasitic drug, although it can also used to prevent or treat Pneumocystis pneumonia which can be found in those with compromised immune systems, including those with HIV/AIDS.

Of course it's a toxic and evil substance - just like too much alcohol (still a bigger problem yet more acceptable than cocaine) - and of course people shouldn't dismiss it.
That wasn't my point though, was it?  I have seen many professionals using it, I've been to parties and clubs (back in the 90's) and met loads of lawyers, nurses (loads of nurses) and people training g to be doctors and doctors themselves....all out of it on coke, ecstasy, amphetamines.  

You may have worked with many professionals and simply not seen them using. People who do coke tend to party with people who do coke.  It's that simple  

The general public are often really naive about what actually goes on and who uses drugs.  There are so many more than you probably realise.

But comparing it to alcohol doesn't wash cos alcohol is far less powerful - that is why you can give it to kids at communion mass and also in European restaurants. In my grandma's day people even gave  a drop of rum/brandy to colicky, crying babies. (In fact I think some anticolic pharmacy mixtures contain very weak alcohol,  even today .. not too sure. ) personally I ingest very little alcohol btw. I've never had a love affair with alcohol in my life. I just have a little every now and then, on rare occasions. I say this cos I sometimes get the  'drunkeness' jibe thrown at me when people  lose arguments and can think of nowt else to say.
