I WILL have to stop being so nice all the time...
STAND UP for myself and for what I believe in more often..
AND VOW to be always kind and gentle to puppies and kittens, l'il ol' grannies, and trees.
Trees are nice, too..
Yep...
I can tick off all of the above..
Now for next year, I can double up on my usual good deeds.
And charm; can't forget my obvious natural charm..

New years eve my 12yr old grandson is staying with us and after we see fireworks on tele, then we have sparklers in the garden.
We don't go out anymore, pubs want you to pay to enter, cabs are double fare, so why go out when everything we want is right here. Warmer too.
Sounds like you have a great new years eve planned Mags.
We are the same, we will go somewhere nice for a very late lunch with son and grandsons, then once home we are in for the night.
I never really enjoyed new years eve out anyway.
Forced gaiety, avoiding slobbering puckered lips, stranded in the middle of town or at someones house without a hope in hell of getting a cab home, drinking too much to cushion all of the above....horrendous hangover the next day......No thanks.

Re: NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS.
Why make a promise, of which many will never keep and why wait until the New Year to do so?
I mean, if you want to change something about yourself or something that you do. Then you would have the will power to do this on any given day. Where then it actually means something.
There is nothing worse than promising to do something, when many people never follow through with it. Why not do what you want to change and then tell people when you have accomplished this. That way, you do not set yourself up to fail. As many often do.
Yes, set yourself goals, but tell people when you have actually achieved those goals.

Re: NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS.
Maybe for some people, a new year is exactly the right time to better themselves...new year new start.
I don't see the point for myself, because failure to keep a NY resolution, when you have built yourself up to it...must be pretty disappointing.
I keep hearing people who like a drink saying they are going to abstain for a month (dry January) it sounds very depressing to me...when all the December bills come in I should think many people need a stiff drink before they open the envelopes.

Its like I say. If you truely have it in your heart to do something, you will do it. To say and wait to do something in the New Year, is in effect putting off doing that and shows their heart is not really into changing or doing so.
All the people I know that have actually given up smoking, is because they woke up one day and said they wanted to quit and set out to do so and have succeeded. Your heart has to be into doing so. You have to have the right mind frameset.

Yep...I agree.
Giving up smoking (like any addiction) is incredibly hard and a person has to really want to succeed.
I smoked up to my 30's....tried and failed to give up several times. I always get really bad sore throats, and I promised myself the next sore throat I had I would NOT smoke....ever again.
I think I brain washed myself into believing this to be true, it worked, and I have not smoked since then.

It does take something like health to kick start the process.
A mate of mine was having huge problems walking, with severe pain and after scans were told he would need an operation on an artery within his leg. The doctor said he had a 50% chance it would not work and he would have to lose his leg.
He stopped smoking that same day and you know what. He has not had to have the operation yet, as the bloackage is easing and he is able to walk everyday better and with less pain. He may still have to have the operation, but he has increased his chances that he may never need to.
Its about the best power of persusaion.

I’m waiting impatiently for that to open here so please no spoilers. Unless it’s awful and you can save me $25.
Might go see The Greatest Showman tomorrow.

Re: NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS.
Don't bother making resolutions because I don't like to fail
Was going to have a quiet family night in tomorrow night at mine (or tonight now actually) with food and maybe a film, not had a good year so not really in the mood to celebrate. But it seems there is a street party going on outside my house which I and my visitors are invited to so maybe we'll go and join in after all and hope next year will be a better one!

We’re off to a favorite restaurant for the 5th year in a row now with mum and 3 other friends. It’s delicious food, I have a few (ok maybe more) glasses of bubbly and chambord and then home to the hot tub and a yet another glass of bubbles with his lordship and staring at the stars. Bliss.

Not sure how our street party will go down tonight, its pouring with rain at the moment I got a huge joint of pork in the oven anyway to do hot pork rolls with so at least we will be fed even if the BBQ doesn't get lit Trouble is sitting by the oven door goggle eyed and drooling
