Merkel calls for Burka ban
Angela Merkel has called for a burka ban after saying the 'full veil is not appropriate' in Germany.
In an astonishing U-turn, the German chancellor told her conservative CDU party conference that wearing the burka should be outlawed 'wherever that is legally possible'.
It comes after the 62-year-old stressed her determination to ensure there is no repeat of last year's huge migrant influx as she seeks a fourth term as chancellor.

I don't agree with banning items of clothing. It's not on. We are grown adults who should be able to wear what the fuck we want.

I don't like Burkas, they are scary imo. Also I feel they're repressive to the women, who many don't want to wear them, but are forced to by their husbands.

Re: Merkel calls for Burka ban
This is craven politics, I couldn't believe it when I saw the headline.
I'd like to know from what divine power anybody derives the right to tell another person what to wear or to decide for them whether they're wearing it because they want to or "because their husband is forcing them to"
https://gotquestions.org/Christian-bikini.html
Women who follow religions that demand modesty tend to be dressing modestly because the religion itself demands it, not because of some ogre of a husband.

Question: "Should a Christian woman wear a bikini?"
Answer: Whether or not to wear a bikini is a question many women struggle with, but for a Christian woman, the issue takes on additional implications. The Bible tells us that God calls women to modesty, which means to not draw attention to themselves: "I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God" (1 Timothy 2:9-10).

Re: Merkel calls for Burka ban
I think people should be free to wear whatever they choose. I know now there is some doubt on whether some women who wear the face coverings are doing so because they are told to....and that's a difficult one to prove.
I don't think banning any mode of dress is the right thing to do though.

Wouldn't banning a mode of dress someone wants to wear be equally as oppressive as forcing someone to wear something they don't want to?

Re: Merkel calls for Burka ban
The only time I have ever been offended by a mode of dress was by a young girl on a bus who was wear a mini that barely covered her bum and she thought it very funny that she was not wear pants. She thought she was being liberated, I thought she was being oppressed into being sexual and not valuing herself in any way.

That's how all animals have been slaughtered for centuries.
You don't probably know this but...
In 2015, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) published an
Animal Welfare Survey undertaken in abattoirs across
Great Britain in a one week period in September 2013. The
survey provided the numbers of animals slaughtered by the
Shechita and Halal methods and reported that a low
proportion of these animals were not stunned before
slaughter during this period: 2% of cattle, 15% of sheep
and goats, and 3% of poultry. The survey stated that
around 84% of animals slaughtered by the Halal method
were stunned before slaughter.

I hate the killing of animals to eat Spindle, but I accept people like it but it must be done humanely, not slit thoats, not shot with a bolt in their head, but humanely. I really don't how they can do the job of killing animals, the noise they make knowing they're going to die must be nightmarish.

Re: Merkel calls for Burka ban
If we're going to use animals for meat then I'd prefer to see that none of it was wasted, our ancestors thanked the animals for its life giving properties and drank its blood as blood contains all the minerals we will ever need, especially iron which aids recovery from exhaustion.Spindleshanks wrote:magica wrote:

The most humane way is to use drugs, problem is drugs render the meat inedible.
Stunning them either means an electric shock or a bolt gun to the head then slitting their throats.
I'm sure if someone could come up with a completely stress free, painless method of slaughtering an animal without the use of drugs they would have done so by now.

Many people do care about how animals are killed for their meat, and the fact that you don't is a shame.
However, I don't think that anyone is allowed to just kill animals in the manner described in this country.

Re: Merkel calls for Burka ban
The only major difference between halal animal and non halal animal slaughter is a prayer said over the animal just before slaughter.
In general, whether they are stunned or not the mode of their death is the same and even if they are stunned I don't think it's possible to know whether they feel pain or whether they don't plus there is always the chance that the stunning wasn't as effective as it should have been and that the animal may actually have begun to recover by the time it's slaughtered.
But, in both cases however unpalatable it might be, unconsciousness and death comes fairly quickly so any suffering is not prolonged.
Sadly, we can't say the same for humans with terminal diseases like cancer.
Did anyone see the photograph of little Jessica Whelan taken a week or so before her death?
