NO NO NO, fantastic film and stage show.

The message of the film is that racism hurts....no one is the winner.

I love the film....the stage show not so much. The lead actor who played Tony looked a lot like 60's TV presenter Simon Dee....and it spoiled it for me.

You seem totally unable to grasp the huge difference between how you try to post your thoughts and project your opinions out here for adult discussion VS pulling in examples of musical depictions of inner city race issues set in America written specifically for pubic entertainment ...that are NOT HISTORICAL DOCUMENTARIES written to educated the confused such as yourself

And the very vast chasm between your topic title and the 'West Side Story' Broadway musical as your example just further obfiscates the point further!  You post crap that is racist - you get your butt into trouble for that ignorant behavior and you just continue to   about this single #1 issue that brings the negative remarks right back to your door!

DID you know that the movie 'Grease' is practically a direct steal from the West Side Story plotline, simply updated for the 1970s Disco era ?

the basic plot of lovers and between waring factions is quite old.
there are even Greek poems of similar plot.
there is a number of differences between the films and earlier tellings like Romeo and Juliet.

I do think west side story keeps more of the waring factions elements of the plot. I remeber it from school it was one of the better plays we had to study.

We went to Brum Alex some years back to watch this stage show, brilliant but twaz a reet crap theatre.

I enjoyed Grease but it sent out a terrible message to women. It was saying that the way for a woman to get a man is to be the way he wants her to be - ie, to dress provocatively and stop being so sweet.

Actually, he had changed for her too, and she changed for him.
And who wouldn't rather see Olivia in a pair of skinny satin trousers than a big bushy skirt.

My favourite character was Rizzo anyway. I always associated more with her. "There are worst things I could do" was a great song.
