Americans Being Racist towards Aussie Company

An Australian camping company has come under fire for painting insulting, misogynistic, and racist slogans on its fleet of vans.

Wicked Campervans, a budget travel option marketed toward tourists looking to explore Australia on the cheap, boasts brightly colored vans outfitted with loud graffiti artwork. Its slogans are far less, cheerful, however:

   “In every princess, there’s a little slut who wants to try it just once”

   “A wife: an attachment you screw on the bed to get the housework done”

   “Fat girls are harder to kidnap”

   “To all virgins: Thanks for nothing”

   ‘A blowjob is a great last minute gift!’

   ‘I wouldn’t trust anything that bleeds for five days and doesn’t die!’

   ‘Save the whales, harpoon a Jap”

Paula Orbea, a Sydney high school teacher, became horrified when her 11-year-old daughter came home from a trip and started quoting the messages painted on the vans. She kicked off a Change.org petition calling on company founder John Webb to “[e]liminate misogynistic and degrading slogans and imagery,” a push that has attracted more than 18,000 supporters.

Australians are not Americans we HAVE a sense of Humour

They are good company, they have hundred of hand painted vans that are all unique.. some of them may be offensive to some people. But the target market is Backpackers and people travelling to Music festivals extra and Aussie Equivalent of 'Spring break'. They are NOT target towards families at all. and they are Dirt cheap.

the online people whining are Americans. locally only a few hundred signatures because MOST people understand the vans in context, but some US person has decide to crusaded against this little independent company encouraging people sign a petitioning to get the company in trouble. so now over 50,000

wicked campers have been part of the Aussie Indie Music festival scene for ages. they are designed for a target audience (I, being part of that audience) not some soccer mum that is purposely presenting them out of context.

they all have different paint jobs so when at the camp site when you return completely drunk/high you can still find your van. As opposed to the 3 dozen people trying to work out which of the 3 dozen 'budget rentals' Van is theirs (Budget is the name of the other big van renters here, all look the same white with Budget logo on side)

Even the ThinkProgess Article Is complete Rubbish there are just as many derogatory towards men!!! that is the Aussie humour to take the piss out of everything. Some are bloody hilarious.

AND the number of times that some hysterical little weasel starts accusing others of "racism, misogyny, communism/socialism/liberalism" ~ without even understanding the very meanings of the words behind their accusations to begin with..

SURE, we have the likes of "Big"Andy, his little lapdawg smellybum', and the three little dumbfucks nicko, Tommy and their new bumchum "Puzzler" sharing one brain amongst the misery-loving little trio ~ but that's only a small handful, compared to the thousands of ignoramuses getting some quite whacky and repetitive petitions up on sites like change.com and Care2Causes.com.  ::attn:: 

THREATENING to derail the very basis of the democratisation of free speech that started the rise in popularity for those sites in the first place..

AND while those humourless morons are continuing to push their ill-considered xenophobic drivel through America's "Pink Press", they are missing the very stories that are underlying the collapse of their very society ~ corporatism, financial '1%ers' manipulating the markets, crook political and business systems, mining-oil-gas companies buying up governments and press outlets, the rise of the NRA and various fascist associations..    

AND all the while those Americans that we know of who do have a sense of humour will be sitting back laughing at these images, unaware of some of the insipid and inane petitions that are currently undermining their very culture and societies !

What does this have to do with Americans? They said it was an Australian company, operating out of Sydney I believe.

 

THE sites that the majority of complainers from anywhere in the world get their petitions of this type onto these days are largely US based ~ so that the people replying to the petitions are being drawn from a "global" audience...

GIVE them a couple of days, and no matter the topic or it's origin, 50-60% of the replies are coming from North America and another 30% or so from Britain and Europe ~ often drowning out any replies from better balanced observers who may be right in the centre of events, and often able to give much better and unbiased reports..

We are still a different people with different history and Different attitudes towards many things. OK, let me just point out -- you're getting a bunch of do-gooders to sign a petition to end something they don't understand but that sounds bad. Sure, it's not optimal, but it's understandable.

On the other hand, the damn petition was started by someone who lives like NINE THOUSAND MILES closer to the phenomenon and has far less of an excuse than Betty Sue Phlugenblatt of Cupcake, Iowa, for not knowing all about the vans. So there's plenty of wrong to spread around here, but is the petition actually going to change anything? I doubt it really seriously.

 

A couple of hours ago, one of the Green Senators in our Fed' parliament just raised a motion to have the Gov't criticise the business..

She has already had one reply from another Senator against her motion ~ if you don't like the business, then don't use it. It shouldn't be the business of government to criticise small business over these isssues..

[IF the Greens aren't too careful down here, they could soon do a "Aus' Democrats", and shoot themselves in the foot - you can go too far in having every loon have a say in the everyday running of a party; and even worse if each parliamentarian has too much autonomy..].

If that is the case, you guys take Americans far to seriously...even single, individual Americans.  I've had this same conversation with Tories in Britain...they paint Americans all with the same brush, even tho what they are singling out are Republicans and conservative idiots.
