BAME British people who supported the Remain campaign are finding themselves targeted by online racists telling them to ‘go home’.
After Shazia Awan, a Welsh campaigner who supported staying in the EU, tweeted about David Cameron resigning she was sent a tweet by a man called Warren Faulkner.
‘Great news,’ he wrote. ‘You can pack your bags, youre (sic) going home…BYE THEN.’

Several people tweeted him saying that, being in Wales, she was already home.

However, he replied: ‘.if a pig is born in a stable doesnt (sic) mean its (sic) a horse .. Britain is too soft in giving citizenships out willy nilly.’
She was also sent tweets from others, saying ‘Come on, be real. The UK was never your home’, and ‘You do have to go back’.

And Shazia is far from the only person to be on the receiving end of what feels like legitimised racism now.
In a Facebook post, a young woman wrote about how she was told she would ‘be next’ on her way to work.

‘A young man on the street gleefully informed me “You’ll be next, you know”,’ she wrote.
‘Followed by another stranger inviting me to “Go home now”.
‘I can’t go home – I am home. Oh god, this is my home.
‘Then, a colleague I have worked alongside for seven months suddenly felt the need to check if I was born here to decide whether or not they counted me as a “foreigner”.
‘This is the United Kingdom I’ve woken up to today.’
And a Twitter user, going only as Yasin, wrote that his younger brother was told ‘bye bye you’re going home’ by other kids at school.


This (British-born) reporter has also had several messages and tweets telling her to ‘go back’, and to get over the result because ‘I assume from your name you are not European’.

Police are investigating reports that signs reading "No more Polish vermin" have been distributed in Huntingdon - including outside primary schools - just hours after the result of the EU referendum was announced.
The cards read in full "Leave the EU/No more Polish vermin", with a translation in Polish on the reverse.
Three or four of the signs were found outside St Peter's School in St Peter's Road, Huntingdon, yesterday morning at around 8.30am, a student from Huntingdon said. He said he also found them outside Huntingdon Primary School in Ambury Road and Hartford Junior School in Mayfield Crescent.
The cards were reported to the police by the mother of the 11-year-old student who found them.
The boy said: "The teaching assistants were picking them up and throwing them away because they thought they were racist."
The student, who is Polish, said he felt the cards were racist too, and added about the moment he found them: "I felt really sad."
A Facebook user wrote that yesterday morning another of the cards had been placed on her mother's doorstep held down with stones so that it didn't blow away.
She wrote that she was "absolutely disgusted", and continued: "Whatever anybody's view in this referendum there is no reason for vile things like this."
Another Facebook user reported that her husband had found one of the cards "down an alley way, next to people who are Polish."
Adam Andrzejko, a reporter at Polish-language newspaper Nasze Strony, which covered the story, said that it was a "very sad example" of the response to the Brexit result.
Police say they have received reports about the cards and are investigating.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police said: "If there's anybody who has got any information about the source of it, they can get in touch."

People are selfish though...the majority of people will vote for what they believe will help them and their immediate family.
I have never seen this sort of fear (I think that's what it is) fear of the unknown mostly....because really no one can say with any surety exactly whats going to happen.

I really hope and believe we will be (when the dust settles)  better out.....not because of any racist views, I don't believe it's racist to want to stop the never ending flow of people entering what is essentially a small island, I think it's common sense.....and many immigrants agree.
I don't believe it's wrong to want to have control over the laws and rules in our own country.

As for America....when they have an open door policy and allow unelected faceless bureaucrats  to tell them what to do, maybe they will then have the experience to pass on some words of wisdom....till then.....

remind us why austerity was needed in the first place, was it the because of the excellent condition that labour left the economy in?

I had a great 2 weeks in orlando. Got to see cape canaveral, swam with manatees, got up close and personal with dolphins, saw orcas. and had a great time at the universal. The motel had a pond with alligators in it, just as does about every bit of open water in florida. I even saw cops wrestling a gator out of a drainage ditch. Went on air boats in the day and at night. Fantastic holiday. Even got to see cops arrest a drunk bloke at a gas station. About a dozen cop cars a helicopter and a couple of dog units. Now thats law enforcement.

All I know is almost everyone I have spoken to, almost every interview, and every discussion on local radio, the overwhelming opinion of both young and old was they were voting out....and they did..

If more senior citizens voted out maybe it's because they have lived life and know sometimes change is good for a country....after all they have lived through many.

I also think that the vast majority of older people voted with their kids and grandkids futures in mind....I certainly did.

It was never really needed. It was a Tory plot to reduce spending, so as to fund a tax break. Tories wanted all wealth to flow to the top, and they have been largely successful in that.
