Sunday morning watching the news, saw a woman Mina Justice interviewed who had had text messages from her son saying he was in the bathroom and that the killer was coming to get him and that he loved her. Eddie, her son, was among those killed. My mind freezes up at the sheer horror of it.

I've had to stay away - avoid FB due to some 'not quite bright' southern distant FB friends sharing their pastors insanity ranting vile sermons with everyone on their FB friends & family list! Those pastors must have rushed that preparation for Sunday service because they were just hitting some high spots and that was far off base.

Yeah I've seen it. Had once customer go on and on and on about it and Obama being the cause and the anti-christ. Funny thing is her step-son is gay. I don't know if it's denial or deflection or what. Also saw the Westboro idiots were spewing off again (I will not dignify them by giving them the title of church), as well as others like you say sharing stuff.

It's sick and twisted and very very frightening that people hate other people who are different to them, this much to rejoice in their death.

That Westboro CLAN is right down the street in Topeka, where my dearest sister and her 6 kids lived. And her abusive/violent Mexican husband ~~~ but that's a whole past life.  My sister used to walk past that place to attend her Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church; early mass on Saturday and to clean the church as often as possible. It was her escape ...the those men from that 'CLAN' were horrid to her and my nieces & nephews ...the ugly things they yell at them!

TWO-TIME cancer survivor and mother-of-11 Brenda Lee Marquez McCool has been named among the victims whose lives were taken when gunman Omar Mateen opened fire at Pulse nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to a Go Fund Me page set up by one of her sons Farrell Marshall, “She now leaves 11 children alone on this earth who’s in need of dire help from anyone.”

Friends say the 49-year-old often enjoyed fun nights out with her 21-year-old son Isaiah Henderson, who is gay, and this weekend was meant to be no different.

Just two hours before Mateen opened fire on the club with bullets, she uploaded a video of them dancing to her Facebook page.

She was pronounced dead at 6.23pm later that day.

Her son Isaiah survived the attack, but had to look on as his own mother lost her life.

New York Daily News is reporting that Brenda died trying to protect her son.

As bodies fell around them, Ms McCool saw Mateen turn his weapon at them, her sister-in-law Ada Pressley said.

“Brenda saw him point the gun. She said, ‘Get down’, to Isaiah and she got in front of him,” Ms Pressley said.

“She was shot. That’s how much she loved her kids. If it weren’t for her, he’d of been shot.”

According toPeople, when Isaiah tried to stop and help his mother, she told him to, “Just run, go.”

At the time of her death Brenda had survived one bout of cancer, and was battling leukaemia.

Brenda’s son Farrell was clearly emotional, confused and scared for his siblings’ futures as he composed the Go Fund Me page.

“She just went out last night and said goodbye to her children and to be called 3 hours later that she has been hit by 2 gunshots and later pronounced dead and to be among the (49) killed this very day is beyond me.”

“One decision changed the lives of many. All I ask is for prayers and whatever you can to help me and brothers (and) sisters to be able to pick up the pieces where she left off. You will forever be in our hearts. Always. I truly love you so much MOM!”

We'll never eradicate crime and terrorism completely. But it's worth noting that with gun control, London has achieved a murder rate that is just one fourth of that of New York City.

Glasgow is much higher than London... although same strict gun laws... and Amsterdam and Russia are much higher too...

Nah...it's negligible compared to any city in the US. It's the availability and market for guns that is the difference. The US has a whole firearms economy, whereas the UK does not.

A show of solidarity immediately in the aftermath of this despicable act from all sectors of our community is exactly what is required at a time when tensions are running high and the prospect of events running out of control is a real possibility.  The last thing needed is the rednecks and the islamophobic and racist network of North America who have already ramped up the Islamaphobic rhetoric along with the hysterical ranting of RWs who convey their messages by seizing the opportunity to spout bile and condemnation on the entire Muslim community without making the clear distinction between the Muslims who don’t support ISIS and what they stand for and who played no part in this atrocity and the extremists who want to divide communities and create social unrest to suit their warped aganda.
