Donald Trump soars to a new high of 41 points - more than double his nearest rival
First topic message reminder :
Less than week before the first proper votes are cast in the 2016 presidential election campaign, Donald Trump has soared to a new high of 41 per cent, according to a new poll. The national poll by CNN//ORC found that four out of ten Republicans now say they wold back him to be the president. The tycoon’s support is more than double that of his nearest rival, Ted Cruz, who trails on 19 per cent. No other Republican candidate makes it out of single digits.

I wouldn't big up Trump's business credentials that much, he inherited his business from his father and has expanded it no more so than you'd expect of any other decent business man with equal luck of birth. He has hardly broke boundaries. And running a country is not the same as running a business in any case.
And raggs is right, it might not just be fear, some of his voters will just be full blown stupid.

He's an interesting character to me; I really like bluntly honest people. I don't have to like or agree with what they have to say, but I like the honesty in the face of all that is false and plastic in the world.
Well I guess Trump is a better actor than i thought
for a Man being So honest about Mexicans he sure employs a lot of them
for a Man being so honest about the Chinese threat to US Manufacturing he sure buys a lot of good from the Chinese and ignores US workers
he says one thing while doing another, sometimes he even says opposite things or things that make no sense.
I am not sure if he is dishonest or just really really stupid, as said his performance in the business would suggests that he is stupid and surrounded by sycophants more than truly dishonest, he simple doesn't know how dumb he is because people lie to his face and he believes them.
I think you're wrong about his business acumen
According to things I've read, his nose for business and his many business contacts will serve him well as president.
I did make a thread in miscellany about the pros and cons
http://fortune.com/2015/08/20/donald-trump-index-funds/
Trump’s net worth has grown about 300% to an estimated $4 billion since 1987, according to a report by the Associated Press. But the real estate mogul would have made even more money if he had just invested in index funds. The AP says that, if Trump had invested in an index fund in 1988, his net worth would be as much as $13 billion.
The S&P 500 has grown 1,336% since 1988.
Other billionaires’ net worths have beaten the stock market’s growth in that time. Bill Gates, for example, saw his grow increase 7,173% since 1988 to $80 billion. Warren Buffet’s wealth grew 2,612% in the same time period, to $67.8 billion.
better off leaving it in the bank. it has grown so slowly because he bleeds money and has poor business accument and management skills
300% over nearly 30 years is not good as the Fortune magazine points out even the normal retirement fund manger HAS increased their clients holding by 1300% over the same time period and the likes of Gates and Buffet multipule thousands percent.

Its not as clear sounding as you are making out
At some point you simply have to accept that people vote the way they want to vote and that they are in full possession of their senses. There's no way to know if they're supporting him because of fear or not.
So far we haven't seen a vote for Trump. Polls are not voting.
A report on MSNBC has dissected the people supporting Trump, and they find that his support group consists mainly of non-voters. These are the people who sit at home on election day.
So, the essential question is, does Trump motivate those who do support him, to break their lazy habits and get out and vote? All of the other findings derived from polls are washed away if he does not win that battle.

Or worse...the Democrats. We've discussed this on another thread, but he is a friend of Hillary's, he is a New Yorker, he was formerly pro-Choice, and let's face it, he has a lot of liberal values, even if he is a nutter. Anything's possible if you've got $10-billion to play around with.

Your last sentence is truly right.
Which is why every conspiracy theory I've ever said is entirely possible when there were powerful and wealthy people behind it.
Thank you for reaffirming it.

But notice...I wasn't saying he could get elected. Money can't buy votes, as conservatives continually find out.
But he could be a liberal trying to upset the apple cart.
