Parents warned kissing children on the lips is 'too sexual' and could confuse them - Page 2 Empty Parents warned kissing children on the lips is 'too sexual' and could confuse them

First topic message reminder :

A doctor has warned parents against kissing their children on the lips, arguing it is “too sexual”. Many parents will see it as a simple sign of parental affection, but Dr Charlotte Reznick has warned the move is an erogenous zone which “can be stimulating” and subsequently cause confusion for children. The author of ‘The Power of Your Child’s Imagination: How to Transform Stress and Anxiety Into Joy and Success’,  told The Sun that children might associate kissing with sexual or romantic activity between parents and then wonder why their parents were engaging in the same activity with them too. She says it might cause a child to think: “If mommy kisses daddy on the mouth and vice versa, what does that mean, when I, a little girl or boy, kiss my parents on the mouth.”

The suggestion has been derided by other child psychologists who say there is no harm in such displays of affection. Clinical psychologist Sally-Anne McCormack told the newspaper: “There is absolutely no way that kissing a young child on the lips is confusing for them in any way. “That’s like saying breastfeeding is confusing. Some people might have issues with it, but it isn’t any more sexual than giving a baby a back rub.”

Have to agree with the other Pyschologist Sally-Anne MCCormack that this claim is way over the top, but what do others think?

You are welcome, but I would rather thank FTL here myself. Laughing
Hope you do not mind me saying but she even though is not a MOD, actually MODS better than most.
Its hard to disagree with someone who loves that much, it can obliterate any negativity or hate between people.

I respect that massively, people like FTL would be the best peace negotiators and all wars would cease because its impossible to get annoyed at something so loveable.

Love conquers hate.
That is the best proof that it does
Catch you later

In our family it has never been the thing to kiss children on the lips. It seems inappropriate to me.

Okay nems, which is why I started this thread because I was more interested in those who disagree, as so far everyone has agreed its fine.
Not knocking its important to understand then why some people do feel its inappropiate.
Just like you I grew up with the same and thus for me I understand many of the reasons, yet to me those reasons are based on a morality point of view taught. So for me this interesting because we have come from then a similar aspect on this and yet now we differ.
So now this debate could get very interesting and thus thank you for being honest here also to say how you feel on this where when there have been many positive views it would be brave to post against that.

Quite. The one's that did it, I didn't think they were wrong or anything. Just made me squirm.

Just an Article supporting Cultural biased.
it is sort of like Sigmund Freud, this says more about the author than reality.

Sally-Anne McCormack is definitely on the correct side.

Always given my children and grandchildren a kiss on the lips.  There is no way it could be confused with a kiss between lovers and it says a lot about the author that she thinks it could confuse children.
