Gay couple [claim] abused by Tesco cashier / (skin colour from page nine)
First topic message reminder :
A gay couple were subjected to a torrent of abuse in a London branch of Tesco after they shared a brief kiss in the store. Steve Luetchford, 28, was shopping with his 25-year-old partner Mattia Pievani at a Tesco branch in Brixton on Friday evening when, they claim, a female cashier verbally abused them. The woman is alleged to have said that the couple should be "ashamed" after she witnessed their intimate moment. When they challenged the woman on her views she continued to insult them, it is claimed.
They then requested that two other staff members refer them to the store manager so that they could lodge a complaint.

I think it's because gay people have been subjected to worse treatment lately than, say, fat people, and on par with the bad treatment of black people in the U.S.
Seriously -- a people forcibly imported to our country, enslaved and then spat upon ever since the country legalized their human rights ...

Any discrmination is wrong. Any found should be dealt with as left unchecked it allows for people to believe it is acceptablle to do so. This then leads to further complications and even violence. You combat any form of discimination, in this instance it is homophobia

Ah, fat people. What if a cashier told someone they were too fat to fit in the check out queue?

These days? I think Meagan Trainor would get to sit on them ...

It's not just about them being gay anyway is it? It's about the embarrassment of being shouted at. Other customers might have thought the guys were having sex near the dishwasher tablets.

That always bothers me, it's like the arguments we had in the U.S. about allowing gay people to serve openly and honestly in the military. People apparently really believed the gay guys would have shells and bullets flying all around them, but they'd be trying to get with other soldiers rather than fighting ...
Because we all know straight people just jump each other all the time, right?!

I didn't mean because they were gay, I just meant generally. If it had been a heterosexual couple, customers might have thought the same thing.

Gotcha, didn't mean to pounce on that interpretation ...
I'm just an American who's old enough to remember a time when my society tolerated all kinds of gay stereotypes -- my father even tried to teach them to me and my siblings, and we would routinely use "fag" as an insult as children. It's pretty sad, but at the same time it's been a great lesson on how societies can change in a short time. And it reminds me of how old I'm getting, which combined with my bathroom mirror seems a bit redundant ... I'm kidding, I got carded for beer just yesterday, nearly thanked the cashier but didn't want to spoil the moment

And she was even white! Usually in the U.S. when you're way too old to be carded but get carded anyway, it's because the cashier isn't of your ethnicity -- people still have a hard time eyeballing the ages of people from other races.

Erm Ben? Beyoncé doesn't even look real anymore let alone ageless!
She's whiter than ever and looks younger than she ever was.
And it's all natural of course.

Black ladies do often look younger though - I suppose it's because their skin is better protected against the sun.

Yes but hers is white?
And black people cream their skin everyday whereas white women tend not to.
I always cream after every shower or bath, as was taught to me by the black people I used to live with.

White women do put cream on their skin. That won't prevent wrinkles or sagging though. If it did, all those celebs wouldn't be having botox or face lifts. It's the UV rays which do the most damage re wrinkles. The lighter your skin, the more protection it needs.

Eddie her skin is not white, even in that picture it is not white.
Your skin is not white.
Where on earth do you get the notion white women to not put moisturiser on?

Anyhow what I meant about her skin is white is that she has gotten whiter and whiter! Haven't you noticed???

There's no such thing as a special face cream.
Although I haven't tried that Boots one myself.
I hadn't noticed she's got whiter and whiter, but I'll investigate.

Her skin has become light which happens with some black people in western climates.
Have you never seen this
Her skin has become lighter, not white

She was born and raised in Houston. I doubt her skin would have become lighter because of that.

I saw some pics of her as a baby, and she's not very dark. Her mother isn't very dark either. It's probably a lot to do with lighting and make up eddie. Still investigating though!

Of course she would go darker if she did get a tan, and then lighter again when it fades, so that could account for it.

Both. It doesn't really go darker anyway - not on my face, it just burns.

I do not get what any point is being made here, as every summer those classed as white do the damdest to darken their skins as much as possible, what is the problem with some wishing to make their skin lighter?
What is the big deal here?

People can lighten their skin by inhibiting tyrosinase. I'm just not sure she's done it.

Again not that any of this matters, I just take this issue that it is somehow wrong for people to look different to how some thing they should perceive to look.
I mean people do it with their hair or put makeup on their faces, none of it is natural, yet people still do it to feel good about themselves/
Like i say, what a big fuss over nothing

She will stay black. She can tan like most people can, but if she doesn't, she'll still be black - albeit quite a light shade of black.
Some black people apparently object to other black people lightening their skin because they say it means they want to be a white person, and are therefore disloyal to their race - something like that anyway.
A tan is also damaging, but it is a natural reaction to UV rays, and white people aren't generally considered to be trying to be black by getting a tan - apart from Rachel Dolezal of course.

Actually her skin will go lighter after a few years, not by much but it will.
I am not concerned at what some people object to, that is just some people to busy judging others as i am seeing here on how they wish to look.
You see its all racial again, you say white people are not considered to be lookinng black but the assumption is black people are trying to look white. Do you see how absurd that is, when in both cases they are either darkening or lightening their skin because it makes them feel better?
Its got nothing to do with races, because again biologically races do not exists and thus by that reasoning is just plain daft. So if some black people are thinking that then they are in fact being racial or racist themselves as if to say lighter skin is bad to have.

I'm just saying what some other people say. I don't care if someone wants a lighter skin, although they should be aware of the dangers of using creams to do it.
I know what you mean though. Pale, white people often get mocked for having white legs or not having a tan on holiday, but black people don't get mocked for having dark legs.

Yes i know what you are saying, but what I see is people judging others for how they look based racially, which I think is a bad way to look at people and further creates a divide between people. So if if some are wanting to look lighter, then good luck to them, that is no different from people wanting to look darker.

Some of them judge themselves Didge. This might interest you.

Re: Gay couple [claim] abused by Tesco cashier / (skin colour from page nine)
Michael Jackson went paler of course. He said he had vitiligo, which he may have done, but that usually causes patches of very pale skin, not that overall whiteness he had in the end.

Interesting, but each to their own.
Anyway have you never seen how some old black people have skin that is lighter than when they were younger and it was much darker?

The other reason some black women might lighten their skin is because they have uneven skin tone with darker patches. That's a bit dodgy though because trying to lighten some bits and not others is a bit hit and miss.

Possibly because the production of melanin slows down, like everything else.
