Milliband, Clegg and Farage resign -- is this the start of a new era in UK politics? Empty Milliband, Clegg and Farage resign -- is this the start of a new era in UK politics?

Ed Miliband said he was "truly sorry" for failing to win the election after his party's worst performance since Neil Kinnock was leader.
Labour was all but wiped out in Scotland and failed to make in-roads in England, triggering Mr Miliband's resgination as leader on Friday morning.

Nick Clegg, who was Deputy Prime Minister for five years, held on to his seat of Sheffield Hallam but announced his resignation as Liberal Democrat leader after his party suffered savage General Election losses.

The party won just eight seats on Friday morning - down from 57 in 2010.

Addressing activists and senior figures in London Mr Clegg described the results as "dark hour" for his party, and "the most crushing blow to the Liberal Democrats since our party was founded".

Meanwhile, Ukip's Nigel Farage also stepped down as his party's leader after failing to win South Thanet.

Mr Farage has announced he is taking a break from politics after finishing second to Tory Craig MackInlay by almost 3,000 votes - but hinted stand again for the leadership September.

I really think in this case HF is correct

the people of the UK opted for "the shiniest turd"

but as they say, no matter how much you polish it...it is STILL a turd...

In scotland they voted for " the shiney new toy"...good luck to em....

the tories are socially disgusting, but are less "interfering" and dont try to "micro manage " peoples lives
labour are socially better but fiscally incompetant and self serving...and want to live in everyones top pocket..

neither one is any good its a case of personally the "least bad" as far as I was concerned

the truth is I could do better than any of the them...

It seems like so often in elections, one party thinks it can win and probably should be able to, but its message (fairly or unfairly) comes to be seen as simply "the incumbent sucks." It's why Romney couldn't take the election from Obama and why John Kerry lost to Bush in 2004, because in the public imagination the message was only half-formed.

I'm not saying Labour didn't talk about what it would do, but from over here the overriding message sounded more like bashing Cameron and the Conservatives.

If you look at the main points of Obama's 2008 campaign, he talked about plans (with concrete details) for improving the economy, ending the wars, reforming health care and immigration, etc., that he actually went on to work on or achieve after being elected. I think he won because people don't just want to hear about how bad the other side is; they want to hear what your plan is.
