5 days of coding and a bottle of calvados later
my vehicle security device is progressing
I finally have the main unit (one of 3) programmed and ready for testing
the program compliles ok
now it remains to be seen if what it actually does, is what I intended it to do (if you have never done any coding, you would perhaps be surprised at the "reality gap" that can appear here )
so test build time tomorrow (hopefully)
btw for the geeks
Its built on the Arduino Uno platform
it uses a near field rf card reader as the set/unset
And there is an additional layer of security in the fact the same card is used a s a smart card "start" switch as in some renaults and hondas
this is to be fitted to a (very) insecure Landrover defender 90
extra security has also been fitted to prevent access "under the bonnet" to prevent any attempt to "hot wire"
looking good.....
it all depends on how good my coding is
(its shite)
coding is NOT my forte
I can build almost anything electronic
programming it is shall we say an excercise in the painful....
but hey...I like a challenge
dont like C very much though
its not as amenable as spectrum basic.....

Re: 5 days of coding and a bottle of calvados later
is the arduino stuff good? I have seen it online and thought about trying it.
does it need soldering?
I can code but C languages are not my forte. Java and BASIC are what I mainly use.

Re: 5 days of coding and a bottle of calvados later
its very good indeed Veya,
cheap clones (which are very good quality) can be had very cheaply from chinese sellers on ebay....
as well as the "shields"
very little soldering needed most of it is pin headers and patch leads
(unless you are doing something horribly complicated (like a vehicle security system)
all the software is available on the net and is "open source"
actually C aint too bad...in this application, quite close to basic in fact(though it has its "quirks")

If it weren’t for C, we’d all be programming in BASI , OBOL and PASAL

Q: How many programmers does it take to change a light bulb?
A: None. It’s a hardware problem.
ok i will stop now
