Everyday 13,500 fail to pay new toll on Britain's busiest motorway
NEARLY one in seven drivers using a new charging system at a river crossing on Britain’s busiest motorway has failed to pay in the first month
round 13,500 drivers a day have not paid – more than double the predicted number, the AA said.
Toll booths were scrapped at the Dartford crossing on the M25 east of London on November 30, with online, phone and postal payment methods introduced.
Car drivers who fail to pay the £2.50 toll are being given extra time to pay penalty charges to help to bed in the system.
The new system has cut some journey times by more than nine minutes and they are expected to reduce further when removal of the toll booths is completed.
The AA said: “We welcome the improved traffic flow and a more sensitive approach to chasing up non-payment of the charge.”

One in seven don't pay. Oh, statistically that will relate to the immigrants and the asylum seekers then.

That's quite a lot; I wonder if the system includes MASSIVE FINES like it does here? It can seriously go from $2 on the due date to $100 for one day late ...

Plus a 80% surcharge. People don't realize the power of civil liability. Like these redneck sonzabitches who refuse a court order....a fine of $10,000/day cools the heels. And it never goes away...after the smoke clears, you still owe it.
Oh, and they can foreclose on your home.

And probably the first people to complain about the state of the roads and traffic volumes. Yup, we've got them here as well.
We used to have bridge tolls here in Scotland but the Scottish government scrapped them.

Good for Scotland, tolls are fascist I hate this private incursion into things the people should rightly control.
Unless, unlike here, your tolls aren't contributing to the bottom line of some corporation from Germany ...

In Britain we have to pay hundreds of pounds a year in "Road Tax" the condition of the roads are a disgrace potholes everywhere, and they are thinking of charging us more to use the existing roads!
