Fugitive Decides to Taunt Police onf Facebook. Gets Arrested the Next Day
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/wanted-criminal-roger-ray-ireland-caught-by-police-after-commenting-yall-will-never-catch-me-on-police-facebook-9629929.html
There's not a lot to say about this. The Anne Arundel County Police Department started using Facebook to post photos and information of people with outstanding arrest warrants. One such individual, Roger Ray Ireland, recognized himself and commented, “Yall will never catch me.”
He was proven wrong after commenters began tagging friends and family member in his pictures. Using that information police figured out his location and took him into custody.

I really can't believe that he was surprised that people would turn him in. I would have done it just because he's a dumb jackass. You'd think he'd at least do it anonymously from a fake account so there wouldn't be pictures and personal information.

I know through personal connections that law enforcement monitor social media all the time! Heck, I do the same in my own job -- I couldn't tell you how many exclusive stories we've gotten at this point simply because I checked an athlete's Facebook or Twitter feed ...
It's funny, too, to see how high schoolers cut loose on social media while acting like such fine upstanding young citizens in front of grown-ups; they're like politicians. I'm endlessly amused by how each new generation seems to assume that it discovered sex and mind-altering substances on its own

Yeah we have TV specials dedicated to this type of person. Usually called World's Dumbest, or The most Stupid, a good portion of them also show up in the Darwin Awards.
