Listen to harrowing 999 call of nine-year-old boy screaming for help as dad attacks mum

The call has been released by Greater Manchester Police as part of a domestic violence campaign in the run up to the World Cup

A recording of a desperate nine-year-old child begging police to help as his mum is attacked by his dad has been released by police.

As part of the campaign against domestic violence in the run up to the World Cup the horrifying tape has been made public.

When England got knocked out of the tournament four years ago, Greater Manchester Police had a 40 per cent increase in 999 calls - many for domestic violence.

And they are warning offenders that extra officers are being drafted in to crack down the crimes.

They are also urging victims to report the offences.

In the most distressing call the nine-year-old child can be heard pleading ‘help, help it’s my mum and dad’ as the woman screams for help in the background and another child can be heard crying.

Officers went to the scene but neither parent would talk about the incident and turned police away.

In another call a woman rings 999 screaming for help after her husband has strangled and battered her before telling her he was leaving with her son who she would never see again.

In another call a woman calls 999 after hearing a man battering his mum and smashing furniture in the house next door.

Officers are set to visit known domestic abusers this week with ‘yellow cards’ given out warning them against violence.

They will also be speaking to previous victims urging them to get help if violence flares again with extra officers on duty while England matches are on.

Chief Superintendant Vanessa Jardine said: “When England got knocked out four years ago we had 350 999 calls made - a 40 per cent increase - and many of those were regarding domestic violence.

“There will be people living in fear, dreading the World Cup starting because of this and that’s a dreadful way to live.

“We know victims often suffer in silence but there is help out there and we would urge people to give us a call.”

They have discovered that domestic violence goes up during the world cup, more if England lose, nearly 40%, but still nearly 30% when they win.

mmmm...time to ban it methinks.....

Nope, time to do what the police are doing and be proactive in keeping the trouble to a minimum.
