Looks like we're bribing Scotland to stay in the UK
".... Labour proposes giving Holyrood power to vary tax rates by up to 15p in the pound, giving Scotland control of three-quarters of the 20p basic rate of income tax.
David Cameron yesterday said the Tories would go further and give Scotland full control over income tax, if it remains part of the UK.
.... In a speech today, Mr Brown said it was ‘inevitable’ that Holyrood will get more powers if Scots reject independence." Mr Brown said: ‘While people want substantial devolution and they want a strong Scottish Parliament, and they want it to have more powers, they also want to maintain and retain the benefits of pooling and sharing resources across the United Kingdom.’

So, even more of a two-tier Britain. The Scots already get free education and prescriptions that the English have to pay for; seems as if they'll get even more. About time the English were given a referendum on going independent!

Re: Looks like we're bribing Scotland to stay in the UK
Heard this the other day on the radio...can you show me who Scots get free prescriptions etc Tess?,
The cost for the prescriptions is taken from Scotland's share of money from the UK government.
And please remember that Scots pay in more per capita in taxes than the English.
Can You also show me where Scots get free education?
Thanks.

Wales get free prescriptions
Just thought I would say that..
I don't think it matters what the government attempts to do,I think the Scots will vote to be independent.
It's a shame in my view as I like the 'United Kingdom' as it is but I can understand why they must get constantly fed up of being ruled by the Tory's when they never flipping vote for them!

...you know Tess,,I always thought it incredible, that you were Irish!!!!!!!!!!!, well so I thought...as you live in Ireland
Btw Tess..i don't totally want independence , but the thought of further RW governments is just too much to bear, picking on poor people, pensioners and disabled people..
That is what being RW really means Tess..fucking the poor over, propping up the rich.
If we were to have a Labour government for at least the next two terms, then that would swing things for me big time...but that's not gonna happen...one term at best, then it's all gonna change again as opinions shift.
So it's not quite as simple for Scots as just leaving the UK ffs Tess, but people are sick of RW governments shafting the poor.

Not forgetting Tess...the amount of anti Scots talk I hear or see seems to be a bit on the rise and will probably be the deciding factor for quite a few Scots.

You have a very simplistic view of people JD - I'm against mass immigration, therefore I'm a right wing greedy capitalist. Couldn't be more wrong - ask Scrat! As for Labour helping the poor, yes their intentions are honourable, but they're not too bright - all they'll end up doing is making everyone poorer - take Hollande's France as a preview of following Labour's naive policies.Joy Division wrote:Tesstacious wrote:

Both socialism and capitalism are wrong in my view. The answer is somewhere in-between - the John Lewis model. Make the workers shareholders in their firms; that way they won't go on strike for silly things or take time off for no good reason, a failing in State sectors, and they won't go hungry while their employers get fat; they'll be part of the company and do their best to make it profitable, for their own well-being. Don't know why this hasn't been adopted nationally. Maybe I'll suggest it to UKIP as part of their new manifesto!

There's plenty of people south of The border who never vote labour but constantly get labour govt.
This different rules for different parts of The UK is bullshit.

Tess, I noticed you mentioning workers going on strikes for'silly' things,,,
I'm not saying that's never happened , but the majority of strikes are for a ' good' reason!!! Like pay not reflecting inflation etc, rights and terms too...
The Employers have had it easy for too long Tess, people need rights..
I see it's cam e around to the same old on immigration
Tess, can you name a poster on here who is in favour of mass immigration and an open door policy?..certainly not me, Ive always said we are just a tiny island who can't accommodate everyone, we simply don't have the resources, I KNOW that Tess.
But Ive no problem with poor orphans coming here when there is nowhere else to turn, also many skilled workers come here, I don't want people coming here just to take though ....
That happens, but it's further exaggerated by some.
I would like mot see a strict system where people who want to come here should have the financial means to do so....bar exceptional cases like some orphaned kids, genuine students etc...
Please remember Tess, that we also have many people migrate from our shores too.

Where did I say Labour where a RW government?, I was referring to the mess that dragged this country through 18 years of shite and rot...then we had a good Labour government, and now we have a RW led coalition ...that being the Conservatits.
If you keep this up I'll tweak your fucking nipples smelly
