BNP Banned!
3rd June 2014
Please discuss.
Church of England clergy face being defrocked if they are found to be members of the BNP or National Front after bishops ruled that their views are un-Christian and promote the “sin of racism”.
It is the first time Anglican priests have formally been banned from membership of any political party.
Bishops declared the two groups to be “incompatible with the teaching of the Church of England” because of their respective stances on “equality of persons or groups of different races”.
Clergy who defy the ban would be subject to disciplinary procedures under a clause in canon law which requires them to be “wholesome examples and patterns to the flock of Christ” in their public and private lives.
It follows a vote in the governing General Synod four years ago calling for the church to adopt a similar policy towards the two groups as police forces already have.
Bishops agreed to impose the ban after legal advice that the Church could not be sued under human rights law for curtailing clerics’ free speech.

Re: BNP Banned!
So do you think that church clergy should be allowed to join racist organisations and promote fear, hate and scaremongering Andy?..
Do you really think that is acceptable from people placed in such a trusted position?..
And we need no reminders of the vile acts committed upon children by a large number church clergy while in such a position of trust.

Because the BNP preaches hate and division, which is the opposite of what the church sees as the message of Jesus. Simple really.

But if they are going to use scripture then they need to use all of it such as no homosexuals will enter the kingdom of heaven, and homosexuality is an abomination to the Lord .

The church evidently does not use scripture to the word Dibs, neither the CofE or Catholic church does.
What the do is try to follow the message of Jesus, which is of people working together and treating each other well and as equals- something which is incompatible with the beliefs of the BNP.

a) The Bible doesn't say "no homosexuals will enter the Kingdom of Heaven"
b) The Bible says eating pork is an "abomination" and most Christians just ignore it.

She was just saying in the satanism thread how she doesn't turn the other cheek, give away her possessions, etc. I'm pretty sure you don't either, so the fact is, you follow the parts of the Bible you were already inclined to agree with and disregard the parts you don't. So you're no different than a gay clergy member!

divv my wife forgives very easily and lets many insults pass, we don't give away possessions the bible does not ask us too...
we try our best by the grace of God to follow the bible best we can but bare in mind we are individual believers working our salvation if you start making rules for others and back it by scripture and declare it as so you better make sure you get it right...

if you check the scriptures i think it was John who was shown all manner of creatures and told to not call unclean anything that God had made, that changed the dietary rules for Christians..

that's a common misconception, Jesus had told the rich ruler how to be saved, the rich ruler claimed he had kept all he commandments of god from being a child, a bold and impossible claim and Jesus knew that this mans problem was his own arrogance and trust in himself and his wealth and position, so Jesus asked him to do the one thing he knew this man would never consider ever doing that was having nothing and relying on God...

To be entirely fair, people of the church should not have any political leanings or be able to vote IMO.
Isn't it supposed to be "love everyone"?
How can you love everyone if your voting for certain parties?

I generally wish all people the best of life -- excluding the murderers, rapists, etc. That's actually why I vote for my party, because I believe it gives everyone in my country a better alternative than the others.

Do you get what I mean though? Isn't it a bit weird for men of the cloth, who are supposed to be of a higher state of spirituality and of God, to be voting for political parties?
I must be stupidly naive because I just thought they either wasn't allowed or they would choose not to?
Politics aren't Godly, are they?

Re: BNP Banned!
Tricky verse:
"Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men[a] 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God."
So none of these people will enter heaven (lesbians might be OK, though?) -- unless they're "sanctified."
Does that mean they stop doing all those things? Or that they keep doing them but it's OK now, 'cause Jesus?
Does the Bible claim people never sin again after being "washed, sanctified and justified"? Of course it doesn't, but at the same time, it says people who are "wrongdoers" won't "inherit the kingdom of God."
In short, it's crazy.

of course people sin again after being saved, it is the human nature but your sins at that point are foriven and covered by the blood of Jesus, so you are not condemned by them...

Re: BNP Banned!
Yes, but that is one thing you can't really reason your way through.
Can a gay person be saved, according to this? Well, sure. And they can go on being gay, as you just pointed out. But then someone like you will come along and point to this same verse and say there's no way they're going to heaven, because it says "no gays in heaven."
But it also says works won't get you into heaven. But no gays, no premarital sex, no idolatry, no adultery, no greediness, no thievery, no drunkenness, no slander, no swindling, if you want to get into heaven. But if you're sanctified you go to heaven, even though you will continue to sin after being saved.
You see how this doesn't make any sense?

of course it can be reasoned through and quite simply, God knows our hearts, when we accept him as our Lord and Saviour that is our repentance, our intention is to allow God to change our ways to be inline with his ways, so if you are gay, which God disagrees with and you openly and honestly intend to give your life to him, he will accept you and you will be saved, if you have no intention of even trying to change, so if you go to saved with the intention of continuing to have a gay relationship, you may fool yourself but you will not fool God, in the same way you would not expect a murderer to accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour and going out and committing more murders...
