The Streets of Where I'm From
I thought it would be cool if we shared any videos out there about where we live. Here's one for my hometown, and yes, it does play up our cowboy heritage a bit more than I'd prefer:
(Also, the music reminds me of a trailer for a GTA game!)
"The Streets of Where I'm From" is a song by Old 97's about Fort Worth:

Re: The Streets of Where I'm From
Very interesting, thanks Lurker! The salsa soundtrack of the first video was unexpected
I'll check out the second video later.
Of course, being from Fort Worth really means being from the whole Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, which is bigger than Connecticut and Rhode Island put together, has nearly 7 million people and includes a LOT of stuff not included in that first video. But I kind of hate Dallas ...

Re: The Streets of Where I'm From
You live in a pretty town. When I was in the Air Force (1964) I flew into Dallas on a small Delta jet from Atlanta and took a Braniff Airlines prop plane from Dallas to San Antonio for basic training at Lackland AFB. After basic they put us on a chartered bus from San Antonio to Biloxi, MS for tech school. I remember we stopped in Houston, TX for a meal on the way.

Re: The Streets of Where I'm From
OK couldn't find much for my city Blacktown which part of greater Sydney.
Only a storm we had a couple of years ago
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_Blacktown
Here is a vid of the train line in that runs through the area (and on to Sydney Proper) the later part is closer to my home.
Unrelated but Why is there so many videos of trains eyes views of cities? did realise it was a thing till now

Very cool, thanks Veya. That hail is a very familiar site around my part of the world, too. We get so much weird weather here; last year we had a picture-perfect white Christmas (not common).
Here's what that looked like in nearby Arlington:
Here's a photo of 7th Street in one of the big hotspots here (about 4 miles/5K from where I live), last year:
Here are Fort Worth residents navigating 7th Street during the flood of 1949:

That's the bloody journey from Lewisham to Hither green!

Re: The Streets of Where I'm From
He's gone way outside of Hither green there though!...He went past my road Hither green is the village bit before he started going down main roads!

Re: The Streets of Where I'm From
Ah, Hither Green is lovely! It reminds me a bit of Queens, NY:
I have to say, though, it doesn't matter if I tell myself that everyone drives on the left in the U.K. -- it still freaks me out to watch it!

Re: The Streets of Where I'm From
Narrow streets and roads and no divider line in the middle (except at intersections) AND driving on the wrong side of the road. That really freaks me out, too. LOL
My wife and I like the Brit TV series "Doc Martin" and those narrow roads in Cornwall drive us nuts. People drive them way too fast for conditions.
Port Isaac is a beautiful place.

I moved to Brighton for a year and a half from 1991 i suppose i was mad to leave at the time but for some reason or other i just missed London too much and friends etc.
That's where my mum moved to when she retired and my brothers and i inherited her town house at the top of a mountain there that place is amazing and you can see the coast of Africa most days!

Ah the winding country roads! Yep, we all drive those too fast but there are rarely collisions on them for some reason?

Hmm.
My dad built two houses as I was growing up, both probably within five miles of each other as the crow flies, so I spent most of my childhood in the same general area. Very swampy, lots of lakes with no discernable shore, loooots of bugs.

Hmm...
Now that I went back and read the comments on that video and where it was filmed, that's the *exact* area I was, our house was on right on that golf course. I just googled my hometown and that's the only scenic footage available. Neat.
I spent much of my teens on that golf course, usually in the woods with a tube sock hunting for balls to clean and sell back to shitty golfers, or jumping up and down on the creek with friends as it thawed in the spring to see who could break it first. Stealing balls from night golfers, running from park rangers in carts, erm... I better stop, they might be reading this... :-)

Re: The Streets of Where I'm From
I used to volunteer (price had to be right) to be a caddy at my local golf course when i was a kid the rest of the time it was a massive short cut from my school to where i lived if you were prepared to run the gauntletCaution wrote:Now that I went back and read the comments on that video and where it was filmed, that's the *exact* area I was, our house was on right on that golf course.
