Two-Year-Old Boy Shoots Dead His Sister
Police say the boy was playing with a gun with his sister and other siblings in their mother's bedroom when the tragedy occurred.
A two-year-old boy apparently shot and killed his 11-year-old sister while they were playing with a gun inside a Philadelphia home.
Police believe the gun was brought into the home by the mother's boyfriend a few hours before Jamara Stevens was killed on Saturday.
The mother was at home with her four children in a master bedroom where the shooting occurred.
She had left the room shortly before she heard the shot.
The two-year-old pointed the loaded, cocked gun in the direction of his sister and the gun discharged, according to investigators.
The fatal bullet struck Jamara's shoulder and then travelled to her chest.
The girl was taken to hospital but died there.
Lieutenant John Walker said the children's mother was "distraught".

What idiot leaves a gun cocked and loaded yet alone cocked and loaded where children can reach it.

It's beyond belief. That little boy is going to grow up knowing he killed his sister. It's going to effect him for the rest of his life.

Re: Two-Year-Old Boy Shoots Dead His Sister
You would hope his parents do their best to protect him from it - but seeing as they saw fit to leave the gun so easily accessible in the first place I doubt they will.

Oh no, truly horrible...and instances like this just highlight the danger of gun ownership..yes it was the woman who was way beyond reckless, but guns should only be used by the police and other government agents, probably farmers too.

who....the ....hell...leaves a loaded and COCKED gun, lying around???
only in america....
dont they have ANY safety rules out there???
JD...there is nothing wrong with guns in responsible folks hands. There is a very simple rule for shooters in this country...IF you can't see it...it MUST be locked away or otherwise so secured as to prevent access by unauthorised people...
very simple...very straight forward and easy to accomplish...
My guns are secured in a concealed, double locked steel cabinet when at home and in a concealed, locked cabinet when in transit....whilst in use (one only of course) it is ALWAYS within sight (and close to hand). Literally when clay shooting...If I go to the bog...so does my gun.....If I have a cuppa in the club house...my gun waits patiently next to me OR it is secured in the secure racks provided (by some of the "posh" clubs..)

Safety rules are gun control, gun control is socialist, socialism is Satan worship.
Re: Two-Year-Old Boy Shoots Dead His Sister
From the time my kids were old enough to understand simple instructions they were taught what to do if they found a gun.
They were taught they did not touch it. To immediately tell an adult (as they got adult there were named adults rather than just the closest). If they were with another child they were to remain with the gun and send the other child to the adult.
People thought me and their father were nuts - after all we did not even have any guns and where would a child come across a gun in the UK? That was right up until the story in the press about a young boy finding a gun in bushes that had been thrown there by post office robbers. He had taken it into his aunts house and pointed it at his cousin and pulled the trigger play acting. Luckily the gun did not fire - the very scared aunt called the police and they said later it was a "model" gun that someone had tried to reactivate and that if it had fired it would probably have exploded in the hand.
Suddenly people did not think me and my husband were so mad any more. They definitely did not think us mad a few years later when someone spilled some loose ammunition out of a van when it was my children who picked it up and bought it straight in and reported what happened - unfortunately did not get van number plate.
My children have all had weapons placed in their hands from the age of about 12 - automatic weapons by the age of 14. They know and understand that guns are tools - and in the wrong hands are dangerous. They respect them and use them properly and are far far safer than any kid (or adult) who has never handled a weapon only seen them on TV and who will pick up a gun thrown in the bushes and point it at some one pulling the trigger thinking it is a toy.

I have no problem with guns - but they must be used and kept safely, and all those coming into contact with them must be taught the rules of handling them.

...Victor, im sure you do keep your guns locked up properly, and that you are a very responsible gun owner, but what if someone just flips?
And as tight as gun control may be, I still think those who apply for a gun licence should be vetted even further
Say a hateful, obsessed spiteful bloke decides he going to use his gun to kill his wife as she is leaving him ...so nobody else can have her?

Thats the point of having a firearms officer VISIT you...he aint there for the coffee and biccies...OR just to check your cabinet is secure...He's there to assess, as best he can, your attitude and aptitude.
also JD, if the bloke was THAT hatefull and nasty, dont you think some other handy weapon would come into play....MORE people are killed by Knives and blunt instruments that ever are by LEGITIMATELY owned guns. Moreover, the few tradgedies we have had were due to police errors (to be kind)...
You have no idea of how thourough the present vetting process is, what is done "behind the scenes" once your application is initially accepted....they can access your medical records, any criminal records including speeding offences...to many of them..or too severe...... and no licence....any drunkeness and rowdy behaviour can disbar you. and so on...

Parents to blame.
Absolutely.
Idiots shouldn't be allowed guns.
May that poor boy find some peace and this doesn't haunt him forever.
Rest in peace little one x

It's absolutely moronic over here. Every common-sense solution to gun violence (and the far-more-pervasive gun accidents) is met with utter hysteria from the leaders of the National Rifle Association ... despite the fact that the actual dues-paying members of the NRA support the measures:
http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2013/01/28/strong-majority-of-americans-nra-members-back-gun-control
The loud-mouth NRA leadership needs only convince a few fellow kooks that every background-check proposal, etc., is an assault on their freedoms by the big bad gubmint and they'll storm the freaking Bastille over it.
Ever since Obama was first elected, there's been a persistent view that he's a "gun-grabber" by the NRA set:
http://www.rense.com/general88/gunfree.htm
And yet, the only thing Obama has done on guns is relax restrictions on them:

LEGITIMATELY owned guns are the best source of black market guns. It is one of those odd things a few years ago here we had organised criminals robbing armed security guards to get their guns. Any Gun in society is potentially a criminal gun, I'm sure professional armed guards thought they were responsible too.

That 2-year-old was just "standing his ground". He'll get off just like George Zimmerman did.

Idiots like that are the reason we have gun control laws. I know there are many many responsible people but then you get stories like this.
Until we have common sense testing I say keep the regulations.
