11-year-old boy shoots toddler dead
An 11-year-old boy has been charged with manslaughter over the fatal shooting of a toddler in Detroit, US media said on Wednesday.
The older boy allegedly shot the three-year-old boy in the face Monday and he was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital, The Detroit News and other media said. According to CBS Detroit, police at the scene said the boys had been playing with the gun. The Detroit News quoted Wayne County prosecutor Kym Worthy as saying that the older boy was visiting his father's house on Detroit's east side when he found a gun in a bedroom closet. He tossed it out of the bedroom window, Mr Worthy said, retrieved it outside and took it into a parked vehicle where the toddler joined him.

Why has the father not also been charged for negligence?

Which brings me back to the point they should lose their licience.
I mean again how easy was it for him to get the gun and that it was loaded and I guess the safety off?

you wont get any disagreement from me on that didge...
you know how strict the rules are here about all aspects of gun handling and ownership...and rightly so...cos they are dangerous...
we have our grandkids round regularly...and me and mrs victor are near paranoid about making sure the guns are safe and out the way.....
even the secure cabinets are "disguised" and therby hidden
Such care is even applied to dangerous tools like nail guns, (batteries removed and gas cylinders removed, and te whole lot hidden out the way of little fingers) and the big machines, which require TWO keys to operate...one for the main supply and one on the machine (one is a real key, the other is an ID style radio card)
they yanks seem to think such things are mere tools like a hammer....

It's all fine and dandy to attribute this incident to the carelessness of the adults. But let's face it, a certain percentage of any population is going to be careless. China, Australia, Brazil, India, Africa, Turkey, France, and yes the UK...they all have some elements within that will be careless with guns.
Therefore, this could happen anywhere. The response is not enough to say that the adults didn't act responsibly. The answer is to simply make firearms unavailable. Then we take into account the ignorant bastards responsible for this kind of tragedy.

And Britain is far more restrictive in the area of gun ownership. That makes my point.

no.....
the answer is to make guns available ONLY to those responsible enough to own them
if you are suggesting that no one in america is responsible enough then thats a sad kind of reflection on your society

That's a semantic argument: unavailability is a relative term, depending on how extensive you make it. Learn to read for context.
Again with the responsibility argument. You don't prove 'responsibility' by being British. You prove it by making gun ownership contingent upon taking classes, passing tests, and demonstrating knowledge of gun safety and safe practices. Those kinds of gun control laws are what are lacking in America.
BTW, you really have a hard-on for America, don't you? The jealousy is transparent.

Its you (america) that has the problem....

and yet.......we have none of that either ??

jealous....what of??? the fact that a seriously large %age of your population are just plain nuts and /or have no regard for their own and others safety
that the fact that being risk averse is considered "a bad thing?"...really???? i'm jealous of that??

Good points and to me parents should be responsible with such weaponry lying around
You would be a good spokes person to help the yanks sort their shit out on guns

The parents should be charged with negligence and guns shouldn't be available willy-nilly to any stupid dumb-arse idiot.

it was handgun so almost impossible for it to happen in Australia or the UK. the only possible way would be a illegal gun , the idea that a closet of a car is a place to keep a gun is ridiculous.
