Mary Konye jailed for acid attack on Naomi Oni

A woman who threw acid in the face of a friend while wearing a veil as a disguise has been jailed for 12 years.

Naomi Oni, 22, suffered burns to her face and chest in the attack near her home in Dagenham, east London, in December 2012.

Mary Konye, 22, of Canning Town, allegedly attacked Ms Oni because she had called her ugly.

In a victim impact statement, Ms Oni said she had at times felt suicidal since the attack due to her appearance.

Judge David Radford told Konye the consequences of her "deliberate" and "wicked act" had been "devastating to Miss Oni".

It was a "premeditated and callous" plan to "burn and disfigure" her victim, he added.

"This careful, premeditated criminality was planned against a person who reasonably believed you were a true friend," the judge said.

"Her friendship had been so wilfully betrayed by you."

Remember this case where many were adamant it was a Muslim attack?

It's a horrible story didge; tbh it never occurred to me some might try to use it against Islam.

I wish the sentence could reverse the effects of the attack... At least it's sufficiently lengthy to act as a deterrent to anyone else considering carrying out this sick crime.

It is a terrible crime, sorry should not forget the fact there is a victim to a nasty crime, just across the water they thought this type of crime had been imported the usual have a go at immigrant crowd claiming it was Islamic, and guess what? They reason they do as think it brings justification for their poor prejudice beliefs, so they can again make an absurd guilt by association claim 
The first recorded crimes of this was here in Britain, we invented the crime, thus we exported this crime out to the world. It so sad how people jump to such conclusions, but then the media plays a big part in people forming poor stereotypes.

It is completely wrong and should receive the harshest penalties.

An absolutely terrible crime, how could anyone do this to another human being? What is wrong with people?

What's more worrying is that she used a veil - or the disguise of a Muslim of carry this out.
