Acid attack offenders 'could face life sentences' in new crackdown
The Home Secretary has indicated acid attack convictions could soon carry life sentences as a crackdown on corrosive substances was unveiled by the Government.
Amber Rudd claimed an overhaul of current guidelines would ensure those who use noxious liquids as a weapon "feel the full force of the law".
"I am clear that life sentences must not be reserved for acid attack survivors," she wrote in The Sunday Times.
Ms Rudd says she wants to do 'everything we can to prevent these sickening attacks'
Plans to ensure acid and other corrosive substances can be classed as dangerous weapons are among the changes included in the shake-up.
The Government will also aim to put in place measures which restrict the sale of such substances by retailers.

Why don't they carry life sentences now? You just charge them with attempted murder, and ask for the same sentence as if they had succeeded.
Attempted murder carries a life sentence already. After all, there but for fortune they would be facing the death penality.

I can answer that Quill: our judges and sentencing in the U.K. are a joke. I notice that crimes carry a much higher sentencing in the US and that's as it should be.
Seriously, you compare the stats of our country against yours for sentencing per crime. Ours is laughable.

Yes our courts are too PC. For the offenders not the victim.
America has the right idea, they get life, that means life not ten years.

PC? Wrong adjective. What is correct about letting an attempted murderer go?
Y'all just have pussy judges.

yeah...and so the great "corrosive substance" rip off begins
retailers are to be asked to make the products weaker...i.e less effective so you will need more of them to say clean your drain.....
of course they will STILL charge the same pence per litre.....
of course the retailers will be on this like a flash, and the idiot public will nod its sheep like head and say yea yea...
just like they did with decimalisation of coinage and then with weights,,,,
as per ...
your butter is 200g the old 8oz block was 228g so effectively you get a 7 ounce block for the same price as an old 8 oz......and the price was the same....
and folks deny they were conned...

and it wont change a thing....
hand gun ban...
NOW the only people to have hand guns are criminals and cops....great...that worked didnt it....
whats next? a spate of attacks using this kind of thing???
a double edged saw that would cause devastating injuries
I suppose all carpenter/joiners (and diyers) would have to the "register their dangerous weapons" ?
or perhaps DIY will be banned?
what about a flask of boiling water.....no more taking your tea/soup to work in a flask if you are working "out and about" purchaseable ONLY at licenced outlets and at blood heat only.
and dont forget those dangerous shoe laces and belts....
