Australia: Lost German tourist 'ate flies' to survive
Daniel Dudzisz was determined to continue his walk, police said
A German tourist who went missing for almost three weeks while walking in Australia's outback survived by eating flies, police say.
Daniel Dudzisz, 26, went missing on 17 February while walking in central west Queensland.
He got lost and stranded between two flooded parts of a river, police said. A motorist picked him up on Thursday.
Mr Dudzisz was found "safe and well" and appeared to be "in reasonable spirits", police said.
"He joked about never going hungry in the Australian outback because of the amount of flies you can eat for their protein, apparently," Police Inspector Mark Henderson told broadcaster ABC.
"He had some baked beans and cereal when he left Windorah and exhausted that pretty quickly, and said he'd been eating flies ever since."
Mr Dudzisz refused medical treatment after being found, Mr Henderson added.
"He was certainly hungry, but other than that he was in reasonable spirits."
Mr Dudzisz went missing during a walk between Queensland towns Windorah and Jundah, police said. Police had searched the area with a helicopter and quad bikes without success.
Mr Dudzisz was determined to continue his walk, and planned to walk to the Northern Territory, Mr Henderson told ABC.
"He has made an agreement now that he will stick to the main roads now rather than going cross country."

lone wolf and I may not agree about many things but if he recalls previous conversations about similar stories, He will find that we are in complete agreement about these matters.
IF and its a big if, i was to decide to visit the "outback" in any serious way, i would want to spend at least 3-6months acclimatising to the expected conditions, would want to be sure of my route, escape routes etc. I would want to have the proper kit and would preferably hire a good guide with the necessary skills.
Even In this postage stam sized piece of rock we live on i have been called too many times to assist in finding/digging out of the shit, idiots who venture to our modestly wild places "for fun" under equipped, under skilled and clueless...even our modest pimples called hills can kill the unwary, to think that OZ is the slightes bit "safe" to do likewise is lunacy..
lets face it...OZ has to be the most homicidal of Gaia's faces, everything there will either poison you or eat you and if not that stomp on you ...

@victor
Actually not much out of the water will eat you, and none of the natives stomp they will disembowel however It's all Venomous but only some stuff is poisonous.
What WILL kill this idiot is lack of water. what he is trying to do gets made in to crazy survival documentaries where the adventure loses half their body weight and almost dies... Aboriginals would not attempt that trek it is ridiculous like beewolf said IF they ever were to they would do it over Years. at least 1000 km of that journey would be suicide outside of wet season.

Or heat stroke..
thats what i was saying about acclimatisation, and the proper kit and GUIDE/s
as you rightly say...an idiot...
I know more about cold survival than heat....but thats the bigger problem here...though i have had to drag one heat struck sun burned wanker off Helvellyn in the middle of summer. NOT funny
